RANT: No one understands!!
So basically the thing is, I've just made possibly the coolest thing ever and anyone I would normally talk to about this to would just look at me as though I were crazy. I've gone a bit too far this time. So just for your own amusement, here it is...
Now obviously it's not going to be anything too good, we're on a marketing forum but what I've just finished is possibly the coolest thing I've ever thought of! I know there are loads of services out there that offer this sort of stuff (custom sales and lead funnels) but I just can't afford to invest in that sort of tech, not when I can just create it myself.
Anyway, this is how it works...
We pour money into advertising so that we can generate sales and in doing so generate a load of leads for our business that we can then develop future relationships with...
The process is (roughly)
Spend money >> Generate Leads >> Generate Customers >> Make Money
Then we use that money to spend more money and so on...
The idea of this process is to recoupe some of the investment in our 'list building' activities; because for me, that's the most important thing!
So we've got our super cool bonus and we want to give it away so we build a squeeze page or a landing page and then connect it up to our autoresponder and then program in the UX process, your follow up sequence, setup your thanks and confirmation pages bla bla bla.
So we've got our completed squeeze page and now we're going to send traffic to it. Before we do we've made sure our facebook, twitter & google tracking pixels are sorted. One for the landing page and then one for the conversion page so we can track conversions.
We then spend a s**t load of cash (depending on the marketplace) on reaching out to our potential customers who more often than not become blind to our campaigns within a couple of days so we've go to keep switching them up.
We've got our re-marketing sorted and we can target those people with different stuff as well but we've not really created a strong experience for them... We've not created that moment where we're like OK THIS IS IMPORTANT, YOU'RE PROBABLY GOING TO WANT TO GIVE ME SOME MONEY RIGHT ABOUT NOW!! (and we need it because our visitors are costing us money)!
Every email list you ever join has the exact same process and because my business is to do with email list building (training & consulting) I wanted to make things a bit different, so... and this is where it gets sexy!
Opt in page goes to a confirmation page where the users credentials are checked in a database.
If they exist then their information is put into the session and they are moved on to the success page.
If they don't exist then they are taken through a process where they are added to my email list via the Aweber API (just NO!!) and then taken on to the success page.
(this is where the money is).
When I saved their information (or retrieved it depending on the instance) I also saved a timestamp 48 hours in the future (can easily be changed) which is used to control a countdown timer on the success page.
If the date (timestamp) is in the past they will be taken to a simplified version of the success page (without the offer on it). If the timestamp is in the future the 'one-time' offer page will load with the amount of time left counting down.
If there is no session data then you're taken back to the home page and you need to enter in your info again to load in the session data to view the page. It's a tight little genuine 48 hour sale based on the moment of sign-up to your list. It's that moment where we're like OK, MONEY, NOW!
I'm also going to create a new time (10 days into the future) where when they add their info to the site they are taken to a new page where they can find all the content in a membership type area (I purposefully split the content into 10 stages on day 10 I'll send the lot in one pdf and create their access to the membership area - automatically).
If they don't take you up on your offer and the time expires they will always be taken to a simplified version of the one-time offer page (where the offer is no longer there).
This does two things:
1) It creates that moment of excitement (needs to be a good deal) on top of the fact that you're sending them the thing that they just signed up for (and you've even made that process exciting for them). Now it just so happens that I took this whole little system a step further from this point and at the moment a new subscriber was going through the process of being added to the database I would generate a unique promocode (based on their first name and a few digits from the current time) and set a 48 hour time limit on that as well.
2) It builds trust because if they call your bluff and don't go for the offer and miss out on it then they genuinely won't be able to get it. You would have taken it away from them (genuinely). The only thing you've got to do to make this even more powerful is never actually talk about the offer with anyone. Never even mention it. If you miss it it's gone.
So even if they did copy the link and go to my sales page after 48 hours after the sale they wouldn't be able to activate the promo code because it had expired and would have to pay the full amount. Yes. The full amount!
I'm dead chuffed and I hope you've all had a good Christmas
