Where to start, What to do.

Hello Warriors

My name is Gary and I need help.

I have been reading, watching, listening and learning as much as I can. I think this might have been a mistake. My brain hurts now, and I still haven't gotten anywhere.

I have my own domain and its hosted with Host Gator. I have learnt WordPress.

Now my problem is what do I do now? Or should I ask what is the first step to take?

There is just so much out there. I want to start off slow and learn the correct way.

Hope there is someone out there that can direct me or mentor me in the right direction.

Thanks in advance.

To summarize, here is what you want to do:

    1. Find your passion

    2. Build an audience

    3. Introduce products

This can be accomplished using a variety of different methods and platforms. It depends on things like your time, skills, and interests.

For example, if you like writing and are good at it you might like blogging. Or if you enjoy videos you can start a YouTube channel.

Some people use a combination of different platforms.

In the beginning you don't want to spread yourself too thin. Focus on one model and find one or two ways to get traffic.

Only learn enough information to complete the tasks you want to accomplish. If not, you will suffer from inaction and information overload.

Stick to the two things that will make you the most money when building your business:

    1. Content creation

    2. Marketing

Don't spend hours perfecting how your site looks or fooling around with the formatting of your emails. Learn to take imperfect action and keep going.

Make a schedule and allot yourself X amount of time each day to work on your business. And when it's time to work, work!

Be consistent and detach yourself emotionally from the outcome. They are just numbers you use to make adjustments.

Most people give up too quickly because they get discouraged when they don't see the results they think they should get fast enough.

When it comes to step 3, the quickest way to start is as an affiliate. You do affiliate marketing while you develop your own products if that's your thing.

And most importantly, build a list. It's the common element in most business models online.

I have joined Clickbank a while back. I can see that there are a lot of affiliate programs there.
So I need to choose a niche that im passionate about.
Create a landing page and then copy the affiliate link to my page.
Is this how its done?? or do they provide the landing page and the link that I use on my domain?

You can create your own landing pages, redirects, product reviews etc. There are many ways to do it and you can get the link when you login.

If you choose just to direct link from your site it's the easiest way but your conversions will be lower. It's better to pre-sell first.

First hand experience is always the best.

A lot of newbies just grab the link and try to vomit all over people. It used to work but not so much now.

there's a lot of great advice here..

but one thing I'd warn about is this piece of advice:

      "finding your passion.."

a lot of folks preach that... "you need to find your passion" , they say

      no, you dont...

you NEED TO find what people are spending money on.

who's to say you can't become passionate about the niche you find.

also, often times, we are not obligated to do things we are passionate about...

...what happens when we have to do something we are passionate about, 'it' might lose it's luster and turn into a job..

stick to a niche people spend money in, build up your site, funnel, lead mag and products.. then automate it as much as possible.

after that, you'll have all the time you need for your passion projects.

      all the best,

    Supply and demand

We are using this tool of the Internet to go out and seek a demand in the marketplace and we are able to supply it with other peoples products if you want to be an affiliate.

Pick what market and niche you want to get into and go out and find a product that is proven to sell with a low refund rate and then create yourself a free pdf or video solving a problem the product is around then leading your prospect into the paid offer.

Build a landing page towards your free giveaway and start to build a list.

If all you do is build a list for the next 6 months to a year you will be ahead of 95% of people out there today. Don't even think about the money. The money is the end result and we can not start there first.

Do this correctly and the money just follows. ;-)

Forget what YOU are passionate (Ugh... I loathe that word) about.

Dig to find out what the needs of "market" are; you should n't have to look far - the answers are allover this forum, and beyond.

Go for a busy market - there's a reason why it's busy ! (there's a demand there). Formulate your USP, and join the community. There is only one YOU and you can bring something unique to the table.

There's a reason why all the experts, pros, and "gurus" all market the same thing...

Gary, you're going to quickly become overwhelmed by the infinite possibilities available to you.

What is it YOU want to do now? You have to make that choice.

The first of these is to choose a niche. Do you know what that is?

Once you've chosen that niche what do you want to do?

Do you want to sell services?

Do you want to create products?

Do you want to promote other vendors products?

I think the very first thing that any new marketers needs to do is stop trying to learn everything...

Information overload is the reason why many people after years stay in the same spot that they were in when they started. The key is to take action. You can sign up for Clickbank and Fiverr and start making small bits of money.

Just dont try to take all in at once. Find one line of business that you can work at and continue until you succeed. Once you have success, then repeat the process.

Yeah, everything here will overwhelm you if you're not careful. And there are many good suggestions as well.

If I were to talk to my younger noob self I'd ask him what are all his hobbies and experiences are in life.

Not to just jump into that market, but to find out what he's most familiar with. Because the whole "work your passion" bit is not realistic in most cases, but can serve you later on when you get good at understanding the grand scheme of things.

I'd then do some research into what people are buying in those niches and if I'd be interested in selling either information or a physical product.

Then I'd buy Russell Brunsons book "dotcomsecrets" (man, if this was available when I was starting...)

Anything more would still be overwhelming once you get there.

Essentially take it slow, make a choice with a couple markets in mind with research as to who you'd like to help and what solution would be great for them. (even this may be overwhelming)

I hope anything here can help. But after you get the basics, get a mentor immediately and save yourself 10 years of pain.

Here's the fool proof method to start making $50 a day in less than 3 weeks.

Step 1. Get into a reputable affiliate network that will pay you weekly starting out.

Maxbounty is a good choice. They are newbie friendly and they have a selection of over 330+ affiliate offers.

Maxbounty also pays weekly which is important for building up your cashflow. Nobody wants their money stuck in a network for 30 days waiting to get paid.

Step 2. Now that you are in a network you need a product to promote.

There are three main money niches I stand by. Health, Wealth, and Self-Help. These are the big 3. They will always be around and 99% of the people in the world would buy a product in any of these niches.

For this example lets say you choose to promote a diet supplement that pays $40 per sale.

Step 3. Build your website around this diet supplement.

If you don't know how to build a website, learn how to edit a template or use wordpress.

Design is important. Keep your website simple and easy to read.

Don't worry about making your website look pretty and DON'T add any distractions on the page.

Your goal is to get people to read what you will write on that website. That's the only goal you have.

Once you have a simple layout, you need to write.

Look up basic website copywriting templates. (They will look like a multi-step process like: Headline, sub-headline, features, benefits, call to action, etc,)

Writing sales copy can be intimidating. Go read a book like Ca$hvertising. It's a great shortcut to learning how to write sales copy quickly. But here's some bad news...

The first version of what you write is going to suck.

That's ok. You need to crawl before you can walk. Progress is what you care about now.

Write your first draft. Edit it and go over it with someone you know and ask for feedback.

Once you make your first revision. Keep it and implement it into your website and move to the next step.

Step 4. Pick an advertising network and stay there.

I recommend bing for everyone starting out. Go talk to live support and request a link to submit a request to receive a $100 ad credit voucher. This will save you some money starting out.

Once you have an advertising account, it's time to learn about your ideal customer.

You need to be a detective and find out more about the diet supplement you are promoting and who buys it.

Is your ideal customer female or male?

Are they young, middle aged, or older?

What are the main reasons they want to lose weight?

How much weight do they want to lose?

What pain points in their life can your diet supplement solve?

Where does your ideal customer hang out?

    Who do they idolize?

These are the questions you need to answer in order to find your ideal customer. This information is valuable and it will help you create better sales content for your website and your ads.

Once you know this information move on to step 5.

Step 5. Learn about your competition and don't re-invent the wheel.

Listen, There are smarter and more experienced marketers out there with deeper pockets making money right now in your niche. You can't beat them right now.

So don't try and re-invent the advertising game. Take what they know and apply it to your website and ads.

I recommend services like whatrunswhere and boxofads. These are great tools that allow you to see the ads your competition is running.

Learn from your competitors. They have spent thousands on advertising in your niche. Take every bit of knowledge you can and apply it to your website. They have spent thousands finding out what the market wants. Don't assume you know better than they do.

There is a treasure trove of information at your finger tips. Use it or you won't stand a chance.

    Step 6. Track everything!

By this point you are almost ready to go live. You just need to setup tracking software to monitor your results.

Tracking software like adsbridge and mouseflow are invaluable to your success.

Adsbridge or any other keyword tracking software will allow you to see where your sales are coming from and which keywords are costing you the most money so you can eliminate them.

Mouse flow allows you to see your customer interact with your website so you can determine where your content is weakest and adjust accordingly.

If you aren't tracking your progress and striving to improve your results. You will never succeed. This step cannot be skipped and any success you have without them will be dumb luck.

    Don't skip this step.

    Step 7. Go live.

Turn your ads on and take a day off. You did a lot of work to get here and you will be eager to see the results of your effort, but it's important to stay away and let the data come in without you monitoring it.

You will get discouraged and think something is wrong if you don't make your first sale within an hour and pause the ad. You will be tampering with the data results if you do this. The best advice is to take a day off and let the ads run and go over the data the next day.

Step 8. Analyze and split test.

After you have ran the ad for one full day you can analyze the data and prepare to split test. Don't be discouraged if you haven't gotten a sale. 99% of people never get a sale on their first day. This is also why 99% of people fail, because they give up after the first day.

The next step is very important.

You will need to go over the data in adsbridge and mouseflow. More importantly mouseflow.

    Watch every recording.

See how people interact with your website.

    Do they immediately leave?

Do they read for a little and then leave?

Do they get through the entire page and then leave?

Monitor these recordings and see if you notice a pattern. It could be that 50% of your traffic immediately hits the back button after being on your website for less than 5 seconds. That could mean your headline is weak or your ad and website have a disconnect and your website isn't what they were expecting.

If your bounce rate is in an acceptable range of 10-30% and people are leaving after spending 1 min on your website. There could be a weak spot in your sales copy. Watch the recordings and notice where people give up and leave. Maybe your sales copy sucks in that area. Improve it.

Go through this process and monitor every movement and adjust your website according to the data you find.

Once you've made this adjustment, turn the ads back on.

Step 9. Split test until success.

You will continue the process above until you get your first sale.

You will lose money at first and that's ok. Remember, Progress is all that matters right now.

Within a week you will get your first sale if you follow these steps.

Once you get your first sale you can begin to narrow down your targeting even more and focus your efforts on what gave you that sale.

After continuing the split testing process everyday for 2 weeks you should have multiple sales coming in everyday. As you continue to split test and eliminate bad keywords and placements, your profit will continue to grow.

By week 3 you will have a healthy profit and if you are lucky it will be $50+ or more a day.

Step 10. Celebrate, but don't get comfortable.

By this time you will have an itch. A burning itch that will make you jump out of bed every morning like a kid waking up on Christmas. You will want to see how much money you've made overnight while your ads ran on auto-pilot.

You will be proud and happy that you're dreams of making money online are becoming a reality. You will feel like a million dollars... But don't get comfortable...

I see this happen over and over. People get excited. Think they've 'made it' and start slacking off.

    Don't do this.

Your campaigns can and will stop being profitable if you neglect them.

Once you've broken $50-100 a day. This is when you want to double down your efforts. Don't get comfortable, because there's something most people don't tell you when you reach this point.

Going from $0 to $100 a day is the hard part. Going from $100 to $1000 a day is easy.

All you have to do is scale your operation to other ad networks and watch your income explode. This is how internet millionaires are created.

So don't stop at $100 a day. I know a lot of people have the vision of making $100 a day and quitting their job. No. Get to $100 a day and then go to $1000 a day and then quit your job.

Stay hungry and your efforts will reward you handsomely.

I hope this post has helped you understand the affiliate marketing process. This is simple version of the overall process. There are a lot of details and experience that go into each step that can't be explained here. But this will give you the foundation to build from.

I wish you the best of luck and here's to making 2017 your best year.

  • Gary,

I'll assume that your general objective is to earn significant returns from your investments.
That's because aside from knowing that you have a domain and a WordPress site --
I don't know anything about what you want to do, what you want to achieve and any of your existing fiscal and non-fiscal resources that you're willing to invest to hit your targets ...

In this case, what I can give are just a bunch of general answers ...
    Okay, here goes:

=>> Start by finding sources of traffic, specifically those with existing traffic that you can convince to do the following things:

    >> Go to your Web properties (from those traffic sources);
    >> Take a closer look at your offers and promos in your Web properties;
    >> Subscribe to your mailing list to get your freemium content;
    >> Willingly pay for the value of your offers based mainly on what you present to them;
    >> Virally promote your offers to their peers; and
    >> Keep on wanting more content from you and buying your other offers and virally promoting your brand to their own personal and professional networks ...

That general process works for large corporations, small to medium-scale companies and service providers, start-up businesses, solo traders, freelancers and individual affiliates who are selling physical products, digital goods and services, online or offline ...

The only thing to decide on at this point is:

    >> If you want to invest more fiscal and non-fiscal resources and take greater risks to possibly generate bigger revenues; or

    >> If you want to start small with less risk just to make some money here and there ...

The first option is for those who want to build a sustainable brand that can generate long term revenues, while the second option is for those who just want to earn some money now ...

Of course, it goes without saying that you shouldn't invest something that could leave you in a complete state of poverty, regardless of the option that you want; and

Of course, how you manage relevant risks can dictate the kind of results that you can get from any venture that you decide to go with ...

The thing you need to ask yourself is

    This.

What do you want to do.

Meaning, can you see yourself updating your blog--three to five days per week--week after week, month after month

Or do you like the idea of making videos.

Or would you prefer to put up several small niche sites--so that you have something different to work on everyday.

However, since you said that you have learned word press.

Then you can go with the blog--start slow, and update it only three days per week to start.

Take your time and write good content--list type posts tend to get shared the most, especially if you combine them with images.

Next, get on the popular forums in the niche that you go into--this will help two fold,

First, if they will allow forum signatures, this will help drive traffic back to your blog--and two you will see what questions keep getting asked--because if people keep asking certain questions--then these are the things you should be writing about.

As far as what niche you should go into, I have always felt that you should go into the niche that you are most passionate about--because you will know the niche--and this will come through in your writing, videos, forum posts, etc.

This is not to say that you should not be flexible--as you should, meaning if one product is not selling try another--or can you try writing or making videos about a certain part of the niche, like instead of focusing on just gardening, you could focus on how to grow the best heirloom tomatoes.

But most important, no matter what niche and business model you decide to go into you need to focus on the big picture, and realize that you will not get rich overnight--but you can make it online if you keep at it.

Forget the find your passion thing. Not every "passion" spends money. Find a niche that not only spends money, but buys over and over again. I'm pretty sure F. W. Woolworth wasn't that interested in cheap goods, yet he built one of the largest businesses in the world at that time.

    Hi There
I always recommend to start a blog for beginners, its the easiest and fastest way to start seeing results in a few months. There are some tips for you:
    1. Setting up your blog correctly
Follow any tutorial about how to setup a blog in a good way, put affiliates offers from Clickbank and a nice landing page to start building your list and send monthly offers to your mailing list. Also I like to put some Adsense Ads to start getting revenue in a few months of promotion.
    2. Having a passion for your topic
At its heart, blogging is about sharing your knowledge with the world. Choosing a topic that you are passionate about makes the process of starting a successful blog so much easier.
    3. Learning from others
I am not ashamed to admit that when I was first learning how to build a blog I made a ton of mistakes. You can benefit from other reputable bloggers so that you don’t repeat these same mistakes many people do.
    4. Be discipline is the key to succeed in Online Business, dont forget about this and good luck.
    Regards
    Andres

I'll just copy/paste what I posted on another thread here. It's simple. Get a good converting funnel in place. Research sales funnels and get one.

    Here's the post:

" Guys in the weight loss/health and beauty market are crushing it BIG TIME. I mean affiliates by the way.

I know this because we have tons of clients with tons of success stories in these niches.

So to answer your question, non of this is a sham. Get your hands dirty and start building up your own online business NOW.

Read the recommended books, especially Millionaire Fastlane by T. Harv Eker. It will help you change your mindset since success is 95% mindset.

Learn how to build funnels and ditch trying to build traditional websites. Funnels make way more money and take less time to build. If you don't have what it takes to build a good funnel or don't have the patience/time to learn how to build one, by all means leverage the help of a funnel expert to get started FAST.

Speed of implementation is everything in business.

Go make that money now! "

First of all do not try to learn all the internet marketing models at once.

This will just make you completely overwhelmed and you will always come back
    to the square one.

Take one model and stick to it. That's the key to success.

If you already have a website then keep adding solid helpful contents regularly and
make it an authority website and promote hosting or other related stuffs that gives
you recurring commissions if your niche is internet marketing.

Or Try affiliate marketing by reviewing products - you can find tons of products
    at JVZOO or Warrior Plus.

Just don't lose hope. Keep hustling bro.

    All the very best

    Hi Gary,

    Start with an email list.

Pick up your phone, open the messenger app and send this message to everyone right now.

Hi "NAME", I'm starting a newsletter about "WHATEVER" would you like to join my list?

It'll get you over the initial thought of what people are going to think about you starting a business AND most likely someone on that list will eventually buy from you no matter how good or BAD your content is at first. AND you have a small number of fans to TEST your idea on now even if you don't know what your topic is on. Just decide on a broad "WHATEVER" and get them on the list.

You'll have plenty of time to narrow your niche.

    DON'T EVER QUIT GARY.

That's interesting. I'm not asking for someone to do the work for me. Im quite capable of doing that myself. What I would like to know is what to do first when starting out. Should I do Landing pages and affiliate marketing. Should I do email marketing. Should I create my own e-commerce store.
I don't need you to hold my hand.
There have been a lot of great advice here, and I thank everyone for it.

Looks like you started off with something. Couple of things to find answer yourself ....

Why did you create this site for?
What motivated you to create this site?
What were you learning all these days? Anything seemed to working?

To be honest, get out of Shiny Object Syndrome as soon as you can, it eats up your time for nothing. You can start pretty much with 0 cost now a days, but you need to spend more time. Pick up & Follow one method that you understood well so far in your learnings. You may (not will) fail to begin with, but getting started is more important.

Fellow Warriors are very helpful here. Ask a targeted question & you can get good answer. Eg: If you chose to start with Affiliate Marketing, you can ask specific to that.

The biggest hurdle you will face is self procrastination!

Oh I will start today, then today comes and you never start

Oh I will start on the 20th, the 20th comes and you have not started...

Shift your mindset and take action!!

The way forward is to make your site interesting. This can be done by following way

    1. Write interesting articles
    2. Write detailed analysisu of stuff and your take on it
    3. Add lots of pics and graphics
    4. Add few videos (We dont want your site to look like a clone of youtube...do we?)

Once you have developed your site well....monitise it.

Most important is the topic you wish to address in your site. It should be something your passionate about. And that passion should be visible on your site in somewhat infectious way.
