    at least one.

if that one person hits my article and buys my product, then it was worth it.

seriously, take into consideration the degree of targetedness (LMAO is that a word).

No number is too small for me, plus with LSI and the odds of ranking for other related phrases, it doesn't matter all that much to me personally.

Every day I check the obituaries. If I don't see my name there, then I know it's going to be a good day!

I usually have 10 key words and am happy with 50 plus searches for some and then around 200+ for more important words.

I figure 10 x (about) 100 = 1000 searches for my keywords and i choose very easy ones to dominate, so half an hour bookmarking over the course of a couple of days (intermittent) and I should be getting around 10 hits per day for the article or more.

I really like to use words that have 300-3000 that do not have a ton of PPC competition or really optized sites/content that I have heavy conpetition with.

Getting below the 300 tends to take too long to produce results (for me) and over 3000 is more competition that i want to mess with most of the time.

If I am going to submit the article to EzineArticles and
the other top 20 article directories, I ensure the keyword
gets THOUSANDS of monthly searches, because I know
the power of EzineArticles and the other top 20 article
directories in ranking tops for even high competing
    keywords.

Most of my keywords have at LEAST 50 searches a day, but I have done less popular keywords if they were highly targeted. Of course, the higher the searches with the least competition = the most traffic for you. Again, make sure the keyword is targeted.
