I need help with thinking of a money making niche

Hi everyone, my names Lewis. I have been a web designer & music producer for over 12 years now. The journey has been fun but now i want to think of ways to make some real income (not pennies). I am stuck with what type of website to start. I created a youtube account n started to upload my beats on there, there doing okay but nothing amazing. Being a music producer is difficult as it is a very competitive niche. I am trying to think of a new niche or a way to use my 2 skills (music production & web design). Any ideas...? i was always told to start a business with what you love to do...& i love to make beats & websites, but there both very slow paced.

I NEED HELP !!!

you've got two powerful assets to boost your business abilities. Think what people love buying in your niche of web designing and music production, and combine them into a package that people can buy. Now what can you create specifically that will generate you a healthy amount of income? I have no idea, I am a web programmer and listen to hardcore chiraq style rap so I might not be able to give you the best advice. But you just have to figure out where the money is in your passion, and devote your mind to it daily until you see an income boost. The idea generation process of a business is a very personal one, espcially if you are going the route of a solo-entrepreneur. I wish you the best of luck, and my belief is that if you are smart enough to master two separate industry standards, both in web design technologies, and music production, you will be able to make a dump truck load of money as long as you focus your energy and money production as much as you currently have in terms of website production and music beats productions. You AWEsome man!

You might consider writing a book or creating a Udemy course for those wanting to learn about music production. You probably know tons of stuff others would be willing to pay to learn.

This is a very good place that you can begin to build your authority in the marketing realm. Start making some tracks that people will want to use for their videos on their offer websites.
    https://audiojungle.net/become-an-author

After you have developed a large enough audience of great customers with a large amount of positive feedback you can take the next step to get some original scores featured on some car commercials or other big box products.
    https://www.musicbed.com

You can also try another lil side hustle like the previously mentioned audiojungle.net with a similar site right here.
    https://www.premiumbeat.com/artist/new_artist

Ultimately, track your progress and document what works and what doesn't work. Be sure to apply basic principles of SEO and relevant tags to your instrumentals.

If you end up doing some search trick and dig deep, I'm certain you will be able to see which TAGS for particular music tracks are purchased on the regular. With this information in your arsenal you should be able to develop a pretty sweet lil residual income hustle with your portfolio of beats and scores.

While you are documenting and tracking all of this keep in mind about how you could potentially carve a sweet lil corner in this space for yourself. You have the ability to teach others that which yo are about to create and when you have the social proof as well as the monetary proof you will become the authority on the matter.

This could be turned into a nice course eventually...

    Hi Lewis,

It is probably one of the hardest things to pin point as you have already stated you want to be doing something that you actually enjoy doing and not something that doesn't give you satisfaction. Obviously there are loads of other subjects in the world that might give you joy and happiness but do you really want to go through all the hassle of finding that subject?

There are already great suggestions above so I won't fill you anymore information as you can easily get overwhelmed. I'd sit down, write down ideas on a notepad, then branch off from these ideas and come up with plan.

Once you can visualize your goals it will then be easier to know where exactly you need to focus your energy.

Good luck Lewis, hope you find what you are looking for!

      Agreed !!

Thing is most people in music do it out of total passion. I know Iam a musician and it's one of my big passions in Life.

That is a good start right there and will keep you ahead of most of the marketers around here, Having that extreme passion for what you' re doingt

I think it is really important that when you go into a world of internet marketing that you take your passion with you. A lot of people make the mistake of trying to sell something that they think will make them a lot of money because other have made a lot of money from it. However, the truth is, you want to enjoy what you do. how can you sell something you do not believe in just because you heard it made someone a lot of money. You clearly love music and web design so try and find product that you personally love and know that many others with your interests would love too and sell that. You could even start by writing a blog about your interests.

    Hi Lewis!

Making money online is awesome if you know how to position yourself and if you structure your business framework correctly. If your strengths are web designing and music production, you can use these skills to create a business around this, but you also need to consider what exactly what people wants by digging down and knowing first who is your target avatar. You need to work on this. The best thing you can do is go to forums that is related to this niches like music production forum and look around the common questions and discussion. From there, at least you will have some ideas. If you want to be successful in making money online, then you need to provide the problem solution paths.

    Hope this help.

  • Lewis,

Let's see ... Your ideal customers are people and organizations that need original beats / music scores / sound effects, website templates, or both ... Hmmm ...

And, what you want to do is to keep on creating original music and custom website templates while earning decent income from your effort ... Hmmm ...

You could try creating a site where you'll offer those things through free downloads, via a freemium subscription, a premium subscription and through a custom service ...

    Free downloads are accessible to the general public and require attribution and backlinks;

    For only a fixed number of freemium members, subscribers can use your exclusive monthly PLR packages of original beats / music scores / sound effects, WordPress / Drupal / ecommerce templates and Web page templates without attribution or backlinks;

For only a fixed number of premium subscribers, members who pay $XXX per month can use your limited packages without attribution or backlinks; and

For your custom services - You can offer 3rd level priority bookings and general email support at standard prices to the general public; Second level priority bookings and exclusive live chat support / email support at exclusive prices (lower than your standard prices) for your freemium subscribers; and 1st level priority bookings and premium phone / live chat / email support at discounted exclusive prices for your premium members ...

Now, for promoting your offers ...

I'd say your general target markets are offline businesses with multimedia and social media campaigns for promoting their products, along with solo video authors / marketers / affiliates / musicians with promotional multimedia publishing and digital product creation campaigns; and

By niching down to markets that are more straightforward for new businesses and content providers to reach - You can identify your top competitors in those niche markets. So:

By knowing your top competitors, you can study what they're doing, analyze what's working for them, improve those things, integrate those into your own initial test campaigns, tweak your test campaigns, scale up what's working and expand to other sub niche markets that you might uncover ...

For example - If you know the Web properties of your top competitors, then you can use tools like SimilarWeb.Com and SpyFu.Com among others to get some ideas on their best traffic generation methods at the moment (direct / referral / social / organic and paid search and display traffic), each of their traffic sources, and what they're doing in their campaigns for each of their top traffic generation methods ...

So that's it. That's what I'd do, but:

I'd do this in reverse, so I'd know more about the needs of my potential target markets and their relevant behavior on the Web. This can allow me to create products that can really help them with their relevant needs, offers that could grab their attention and compel them to try it out, and campaigns that can make me catch them in the right places at the right time ...

Well, that sounds like a lot of work, which is quite normal when you're building a business from the ground up ...

Before making money online i suggest you to learn how to make money online, it's required. If you know about all the systems of making money online then you can use one of them. As like:

    1. Outsource / Freelancing

    2. Affiliate Marketing

    3. Google Adsense

    4. Website Flipping

    5. Survey Taking

    6. Blogging etc.

Now you have to decide which one is the best for you among them. But, as a newbie I can suggest you about Affiliate Marketing because it helps you to make passive money online, easy to learn, but a lot of money you can earn. There are a lots of people making their full time earning from affiliate marketing.

I wonder if you're serious with your question as you've already read and watched a lot of online business courses. Nevertheless, outsourcing means hiring skilled people to do your things at a usually cheaper price where you can't do it yourself due to skill limitation, work loads or time constraints. Website flipping is simply a buy-and-sell of websites. Create, modify or buy website at a cheaper price then sell it at a much higher price.. just like a real estate business.

If you don't mind me asking, what have you done (professionally speaking) in the last 10 years? Web design was a very lucrative business specially in the past years where wordpress, apps, responsive sites were still propagating in the internet marketplace. Had you have started and stayed with web design business over the years, you could have been a web design legend with truck loads of money by now... it's not too late yet, upgrade your web design skill and start/stay with web design business. IMHO.

That is a great question. To be honest i didn't take it serious years ago & one major thing i did wrong was years ago i use to use Moonfruit lol which is VERY DATED software for making sites, my problem was i didn't catch on to the new platforms i.e wordpress, wix ! I use to always see them pop up on tv or online but i thought nah i will stick to what i know (moon fruit) which was my biggest mistake ever ! Now I've mastered wordpress & wix i have finally got myself into a position where i can make GREAT websites not just okay websites. So this is why i asked the question on the forum....with my 2 skills what is the best thing i can start. Everyone has provided me with fantastic information, so now i can take action. Already on the case.

Try to set up a small business on "local advertising". A friend of mine is doing it but on video productions. He has a lot of clients asking him to make advertisement for their stores/products. He started by himself then he hired his camera crews and freelance actors. He also does video production seminars on the sideline... so yes he makes a hell lot of money! You got a super duper skills (web design and music production) use them to conduct paid seminars, movie production, and like what Rose Anderson has mentioned, make some courses in Udemy - this is a very profitable platform. Goodluck.

But since you're experienced, you can go for it.

That's probably your mistake, using site builder software. If you really want to get into web design and become very good at it, you should be very familiar or at least can work with HTML, CSS, javascript, PHP, jquery, bootstrap for responsiveness, and many more... if you're an updated web designer, you must be capable of doing mobile apps, databases, API's among others. To be honest with you (quite frankly), you won't be going anywhere with site builders (source codes are horrible and some site builders won't even share you the source code, site builders are for newbies not pros as there's usually no coding involved) and you can't call yourself a professional web designer for that. However, if you are very familiar with Wordpress, you can stay with it. Wordpress is a very profitable skill and is very in demand in the job market as it is one of the skills that are in short supply. With Wordpress, you can create themes, you can do freelancing works such as troubleshooting and maintaining sites as lots of big companies are using the Wordpress platform.

Thanks for the brutally honest opinion lol i understand what you are saying but i disagree I've made money from just software websites. We are in a new era where coding is ancient in the web design world the only time coding is needed is if your trying to start a social media website. Most people these days have blogs over websites..so just having a decent blog software is more then enough. Thanks for the advice though, i have lots of ideas now. didn't expect this much reaction to be fair lol but i am going to go with some other peoples options.

I do apologize if you found my comment a bit brutal . I just want to emphasize the real life out there for a web designer/developer as I used to be one but I got fed up of being paid an hourly wages so I moved to IM, this way I got unlimited leverage (not 12hours max) and I got paid while asleep. This might be a fairy tale to some but it's very achievable though not easy, it takes time, tremendous effort and yes it really takes a lot of guts. I'm not saying that you can't make money using site builders, of course you can.... that's why I'm suggesting you to specialize in Wordpress as this is the best site builder-like platform ever invented but still best to constantly upgrade yourself with Wordpress as well as working with themes and plugins and coding always comes to play so if you got time try to learn coding as well. All the best!

    My ideas:

Help your music audience to boost their brand by selling services.

    * upload video branding with SEO friendly to some band or music group (for SEO reason can suggest 100 more videos to upload with keyword research) to get organic traffic.
    * put the uploaded videos to video blog with viral marketing using viral plugins or themes (this should be the video will get more views that will be benefit for branding)
    * If the blog is going good you can offer social media branding, like facebook fanpage/group/g+/twitter followers, page design and help about the ads.
    * Offer the video to convert to mp3/mp4 and upload to soundcloud also with follower boost services.
    * Offer syndicate the video content using onlywire, ifttt, syndwire or bookmark and RSS feed submit.
    * Offer Press Release, Ezine submit or any content marketing promotion

You can use fiverr to help for the services above. I'm sure the services are great for your clients branding and you can take advantages to collect your 5 or 6 figures income.

Super easy positioning for you would be: building websites for artists

Building websites remains to be very much in demand. Super commoditized yet you won't run out of people to serve.

Your music background will will help you better market to artists because they can identify with you and you speak their language.
