Need some advice on my broad blog regarding marketing

Hey guys,

I have a question about my blog.

It discusses most self improvement topics for men. Like dating women, more confidence, health and general success in life.

Now I know that this is very broad and will not result in very targeted traffic. But how big of a deal is this?

What if I can make my visitors sign up for a general newsletter and make them choose in the first email on which topic they want help. Let's say I make a few different funnels and they choose in which one they will go.

Is this a good idea to still get some good revenue and build income over time?

I am scared that if I narrow down to a specific niche that I run out of content to write. What if you have written everything there is about a topic and you can't write new content without repeating yourself?

You'd have that problem anyway if you created different funnels.

To make a success of a broadly targeted blog, you'd need a large marketing budget and the help of specialist content providers. And patience.

I don't know your circumstances, but I'd go for a more tightly targeted topic if I were you.

In the funnel, yes. But I mean enough content for SEO purposes to get traffic to my blog.

It's a very big deal. Targeted traffic is extremely important if you plan to make money from what you sell.

The broader the audience, the less they have in common, obviously. Why does that matter? It matters because you want to be addressing the problems, concerns, questions, and desires of a specific group of like-minded people. When you audience all wants the same thing, your offer will be relevant and important to every person in the group that you're trying to sell.

When you have a very broad audience, every time you discuss a topic, there will be a portion of that audience that has no interest in what your saying. That leads to people leaving your audience . . . or at the very least, not buying what you want to sell.

As Frank has hinted, broad topics typically are for huge businesses with lots of firepower and resources. You shouldn't try to compete with them. Find a narrow niche, one that you have some authority or experience with, and get really good at doing one specific thing. If you can't write content for a niche, get hustling and learn about it. Specialize. Focus. There will be lots to say in your own words. Of course, you can always hire others to research and write your content.

Trying to do the broad topics does not work for solo entrepreneurs with little money.

Thanks for the detailed reply Steve. You and Frank are clear about specializing so I will find one niche that I'm going to focus on.

      Hi Steve,

One more question. I like the self esteem self confidence niche the most. Is this narrow enough for me to target the right visitors?

I think it does? Everyone who visits is looking to increase their confidence and self esteem.

      Can you elaborate? Thanks!

It's good that you like the self esteem/self confidence topic. Obviously there are a lot of people that struggle with these issues.

Is it narrow enough? Yes and no. That depends upon you and how you plan to serve your audience.

Let me ask you . . . are the self esteem issues of a 13 year old teenage girl similar enough to the self esteem issues of a just fired construction worker that both will buy your product(s)? Are you going to be able to "speak to" and provide solutions to both these groups and others struggling with self esteem?

What I'm getting at is this: you should be careful to "define" your market and acknowledge that you can't help everyone. But you can address the needs of some people in the audience. You need to decide who you want to serve and who you can help to overcome their issues. Don't worry about those you can't help. Clearly define your market and who your "ideal customers" will be. Then stick to addressing them in a very focused way.

It will be possible to "branch out" into other audiences (niches) in the future. But for now, IMO, it's best to focus on one thing and become the expert in that area so you command some authority.

You may be interested to know there are currently 20, 021 books selling at Amazon in the category of "self esteem." Is that too many to try to compete against? If so, then go deeper and specialize in a tighter segment of the market.

A good exercise for you would be to go to Amazon and see all the different sub-topics in the self esteem category by looking at the titles of the books in that area. Focus on the "most popular" and best sellers. What do these books have in common? Is there a sub-topic of self esteem that really stands out? Are there "gaps" or topics in the niche that no one is addressing? By doing a little research you will get a good idea of what people in the niche are buying and wanting to know.

        Gotta go . . .

        The very best to you,

        Steve

look, I'm gonna look like the bad man and saying your doing something wrong, but I'm just giving my two cents:

It's about evoking emotions in people. The most successful business people have skills in different mediums in which they portray their content, but what they have most in common is the fact that they have an insane ability to make a emotional connection with the people on their newsletter list or reader list. If you can be an emotional artist and evoke something that taps into their nature of what it means for your readers to be human beings while reading your articles, You got a business.

Convictie, your an AMAZING writer, I don't care what anyone says, you believe in yourself, and I believe in you, that's enough. Write something that taps into your readers inner beast of what it is to be a man, and they will flock towards you with their money. Get rich man, don't let petty things like thinking about running out of content to write about prevent you from getting rich. Your AWESOME!!! BELIEVE THAT!!!!!!!

not sure if this helps, but I just visited your website and the color scheme is perfect. But the main banner area on the right side to your main logo is a little boring, it's just blank space there, it could be used to evoke some emotions hehe x)

Anyways, love your website dude. And yes, I am in the motivational speaking stuff, but primarily about money and programming, that's my sub niche. So my niche is pretty much as narrow as it can get at the moment haha, any more narrow than that and I don't even have anyone to watch or reading my stuff haha. Anyways, have fun man! Thanks for the Thanks. Love it! Nice Website!
