I watched 25 seconds of a vidoe intro for a course today and that was all it took to drive me nuts. First the guy starts walking down a narrow hallway, then down a set of stairs. He looked like he needed a shave and after the 4th time he said UMMMM I clicked off the video. He may have had useful things to day, but his video was totally unprofessional. Why walk down a hallway and down stairs? Does it add to the topic of creating affiliate wealth? what's wrong with sitting in a chair with a neutral background so we can focus on what's being said? I also watched a well known "challenge" series and every few minutes the guy smacked his lips together making an annoying sound blasting from my computer speakers. He spoke so fast I could not get his name. Seeing as all of us come from different parts of the world it would be a big help to say your name slowly and clearly so those who don't have your accent can understand your words. Finally I don't like foul language, especially when my young child is within earshot and sometimes watches these videos with me. I am making a video now for a new product I want to launch. I didn't like how I sounded so I did it over, I practiced and practiced until I was sure I sounded professional and got my friends to view it for me. I just have to ask if anyone views thier own videos before running to upload to youtube......... |

I think its funny how many marketers are mimicking the videos of top dogs like Frank Kern. 1. You have to swear 2. You have to be moving in a car or walking 3. You must joke around and casually and point out useless info 4. You must dress like a slob and show you don't give a darn 5. Your video only has to make a point near the end I guess imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. |

If you listen to Frank's stuff, there's actually a reason for most of this. Everything from moving from location to another (the "journey", taken from the pick-up-artist world), to his appearance is well thought out (I'm not saying his surfer persona is fake - just that there's a very good reason he doesn't hide, and likely plays up on it somewhat). In his case, if you take issue with it, then you probably aren't his target audience. As Dan Kennedy says: you have to be willing to break a few eggs Besides those points, I agree I don't like the ummms, etc. If you've ever taken a speech class, they'll tell you the ummms are just space filler, so instead of saying 'ummmm', just shut up for a second |

I started watching this one video from this one guy (don't remember his name) -- "supposedly" he was very successful but came across as a loser/creep, and I thought to myself, 'geez', and obviously turned it off. Don't even remember what product he was promoting. It depends how you are trying to position yourself, but I think the copy cats don't are literally just "copying". They just "see" frank kern with $$$, so figure if they look like slobs, they'll get the same results. They don't seem to realize he does more than just make videos :P | |

I should stop doing powerpoint and mindmap videos and do live instructional ones. Maybe wear my desert print boonie hat with sweat stains from working on the farm. Heck, I could be the marketing redneck. I could get someone to follow me around with the camcorder while I am feeding the animals, maybe changing the oil in the Karmann Ghia, or splitting wood. I could do a special blog video post, "The Marketing Wookie Butchers A HAWG. HOOWEE" This could go places. |

I watched a very good video yesterday on doing keyword research, the topic was well presented, the speaker was interesting and articulate, however she was dressed in a skin tight tank top with huge cleavage spilling out. Quite distracting to the men I am sure. Why would somebody with such a good presentation dress so unprofessionally?

Dorim Your point is valid for sure, but she was probably using her assets to her advantage. It's no big secret that people will click on a YouTube video based on the Thumbnail, and you tend to find the highest clicks on those of the aforementioned ...ummm....well, you know ![]() As for the other comments, the thing with Frank is he is very influential, so people are bound to try and copy...I'm a bit of guilty of that sometimes too. The one I hate though is where everybody uses the subject line "I screwed up" agh!! ;-) I think it's fine to have the odd mistake or stumble in a video to show you are real, but I agree, if there are too many, it becomes grating. It's worth recording yourself to pick up on any words or ummmssss you do over and over again. Phil |

I think it's funny how many people are copying Frank Kern. I got one of his videos recently and just two days later I receive one from another guy that was modeled exactly like it. I think it was the "if you don't click on this link... this could happen to you" video. Personally, I like professional no nonsense videos that get straight to the point. Eben Pagan typically has that style. Maybe it's just my personality. |

People think cursing or "acting formal" emulates the average computer user. However, if it truly doesn't fit your "style" then don't go for it. Long story short. Be yourself in your copywriting messages |

I've been practicing to keep my ummm's to a minimum in my videos. I never notice doing it and then when I play back my videos, I drive myself nuts...

I like Eben Pagan's style. It's simple and very effective. Frankly the videos of talking while driving bore me to death because it takes an eternity to come to the point. I just want the presenter to come to the point and deliver what he or she has to say. Again it's just a personal preference.
