Hi
I was wondering how many of you people are still struggling to promote their affiliate sites organically? or are you buying traffic straight from the beginning?

I am still investing lots of my time on SEO and find that it is getting extremely harder than what was 2 years ago.

thanks

You're absolutely right - SEO is getting extremely harder than it was a few years ago. Why? Because every day thousands of websites are entering the world wide web which in turn dilutes rankings and gives search engines far more websites to crawl through.

How can you combat this? Create the best possible content that you can. If you focus solely on your content, you will naturally produce great keywords and engage users. You have to remember people search the web for quality content on topics that matters to them. What good does it do you if you get someone to your page by using bootlegged SEO tactics with crappy content? Nothing. They won't stay and click around - they'll leave, and won't come back.

The takeaway here is that content is king. I know you want to make money with your affiliate links just like the rest of us, but you won't if you spend too much time buying traffic and having crappy content. Make content you want to share and that you are proud of, only then will you stand out from the rest and see real traffic and real results.

    Just my two cents.

Almost right. Don't depend on just getting such content found by the search engines. You can drive massive quantities of highly convertible traffic very quickly through broad distribution in niche-relevant outlets.

      Just my million dollar tip.

No one can drive massive quantities of traffic if you rule out of seo (Google), videos (YouTube), and social (facebook); they should be the cornerstones of your traffic plan, both paid and organic. So, start relying on them ethically, give them what they want, doing so you'll be rewarded heftily.

I generate massive quantities of highly convertible traffic within some of the most intensely competitive niches without using any of those sources. The method I mentioned above has been consistently beating the hell out of all my competitors for the past 20 years.

Complete complete agree. Great content is key. If you can't create the content yourself I would rather spend money on getting content on your site rather than spending money on getting traffic. Will benefit you in the long term.

Yeah, it's hard to promote affiliate sites and build links to it using whitehat tactics.. But you can always product informational and high quality content, link from it to your money pages and promote THAT informational content. That way, you'll be passing the link juice to your money pages and eventually rank them even if you don't build links to them

One more thing is build an authority site instead. Go big. Authority sites are the way to go. Once your site gain authority, your freshly baked content will almost instantly rank #1 on search engines (No Joke).

    SEO is getting easier.

    One example...

Featured snippets makes it possible to rank above the #1 ranked organic page for some keywords while having a weaker link profile (less work).

This wasn't possible a few years ago, it wasn't even an option.

Don't get me wrong, SEO is work but you need to be doing the right work.

Funny, as If paid traffic is a sure win.

You have no idea what you're getting before you buy traffic. It's a gamble just like anything else in business.

People around here act like paid traffic is pie in the sky easy, it's not. You don't simply drop a credit card number and start banking like Warren Buffett.

It depends on your activity. If you're running an ecommerce store then I suggest investing in Paid traffic (social one) You can control the clicks you get and with some optimization you can get fast results.

For a blog , trying to rank the website is the ideal thing. You can see the increase in traffic by the time and it's far easier than trying to rank an ecommerce store.

In my case I usually get the traffic from social medias to my pages then to my links. Better . Faster !

For the best converting keywords/phrases in the most lucrative niches, you're competing against deep-pocketed professionals. You can get around this by what I call "hitchin' a ride" on sites that are already in the top of search engines for your keywords.

Paid traffic? Hmm! I have tried it. Not once and not twice. Several times. But you have to be careful, you might spend your money with no return on investment.

Take this example. You have a facebook page for your business. You promote it and receive so many likes. What does that mean? Does it imply all the likes you get mean business for you? Try it once. You will come back here and tell us your experience.

Similarly, you spend your hard earned money on paid traffic. So many people come to your site and click away. Only 1% (or nobody) become clients. Does that meet your intentions? Those who have bought traffic, what's your experience? Be genuine! Tell us the percentage of click-throughs or visits you have turned into real customers. Is it what you would wish to have?

Well, if you are overambitious and you are looking for quick money, you can spend your bucks on buying traffic hoping to make more money. But always measure the return on investment and go back to the drawing board.

Sustainability is so important in online marketing. I think methods that are more sustainable in the long-run are better. SEO is more time consuming but more sustainable and rewarding in the long-run. All one has to do is to learn how best to go about it. Secondly, you have to give it time.

media buys, youtube ads, bing and ppv.

But if you are not building a list, you are waisting your time. I see my clients fail horribly, with SEO. I am not saying its crap, but bear in mind, you will wait for months to rank it, then google will bring in frankenstein or some other crappy update, and boom, down you go.

Buy paid, it costs, but you can turn it on and off like a tap, and you can upscale when you find a winner.

All depends on what kind of affiliate site you have.

If you're doing something like amazon, then you almost have to do SEO because paid traffic is too expensive to survive on 3% profit share or whatever amazon gives you.

Ultimately you want to do both. Paid traffic for immediate results and SEO for long term.

Buying Traffic is not a good idea for ranking improvements. I have a shopping affiliate site and promoting products over there, it is something like hiting a bricks wall. You need to put massive efforts for maximum output. It is hard to recommend anything without analyzing your site but I want to say that you must correct On-Page before promoting it online, hope you are working with latest search engine guidelines.

If you're unwilling to wait for months to get results, then paid traffic is more preferable, as you can quickly and easily analyze your results to know what is converting and send more traffic accordingly!

With paid traffic however, the key to success is to never direct link. Make sure you build a list!

Maybe it's not that SEO is getting harder, it's just that you guys are promoting nothing but junk.....

    **Pitchforks come out**

    Hear me out.

Back in the day, you could manipulate Google and promote any ol' junk system you found online.

    Now you definitely cannot.

What if you created a website only about things you truly enjoyed and loved learning about, and had great deal of knowledge in.

i.e.: Look at TheWirecutter - I bought my headphones after reading a really great article from them because they knew so much and conducted so much.

Make a site of things you use on an everyday basis. I bet where you're sitting right now, you could make an article or video regarding 5 items either on you or within your vicinity.

Do that over time and SEO won't seem so hard.

Well, you are going to have to be making one heck of a lot of money per sale as an affiliate to even afford advertising. The only thing I know that pays that well are eCourses and some eBooks. If you are talking about real products (like an Amazon product link), you'll never make more than you spend with advertising.
