Effective Social Media Competitive Research

I'd like to share few tips on how I conduct social media competitive research, what tools do I use to get the best results, and would like to see your tips.

1. Enter your seed keyword in Serpstat and go to SEO Research> Competitors:

2. Check sites with the highest Visibility to verify if they are your competitors:

3. Find social media widgets on the main page of these sites and have a look at them:

4.Compare and find out which social media has the biggest audience of your potential customers with Rival IQ:

5. Estimate the level of engagement (number of likes, shares, and comments) of your competitors' social networks. Use Simplymeasured to analyze the most popular social media:

6. Analyzing the most shareable content of our competitors will help you to find out which topics your target audience is interested in. So that you'll post only relevant and useful information. I'm using Serpstat's "Top Pages" feature in "SEO Research" section:

7. Find and analyze the web mentions of your competitor. There are lots of social media monitoring tools that let you track social mentions such as Socialmention, Mention, Topsy, Google.Alerts, etc. I'm using the lot

8. Do it regularly.

Is it really important to do competitive research on the social media? Maybe for some who service that niche.

In my business, I would prefer to understand what my target market is buying. Social media prospects, in my experience, are generally poor buying prospects. Knowing who is getting all the "likes" and "follows" and what content they're sharing does not translate into market purchases.

I realize SEO professionals like to say they are experts at increasing social media presence . . . but in my case at least, I am more interested in attracting and building a list of buyers in the niche.

Hey Steve, that's very interesting though. How do you target these, shall I say, - "selling" pieces of content?
