I used them a long time ago, but have heard over the past few years they have been overloading there servers (too many users per server), whether or not this is true, I have no idea.

What type of hosting are you looking for? Shared? VPS? Dedicated?

Your afraid to invest in your business!

Yeah hostgator is not only one of the lease expensive but its one of the most quality hosting service.

Before you invest in all of this I really don't think your ready yet! I don't believe you understand completely but rather are seeking the money without fully understanding what you are doing.

    Formula to fail!

    Do not do it.

They are part of EIG which does not care about its customers. There are lots of hosts out there that will be around the same money and give a better service.

Yep, stay far away from Hostgator.

They were were good in the past but are now rubbish. I switched
my hosting over a couple of years ago after my sites became
      infected with malware.

It took their customer service a week to get back to me...

There are plenty of hosting companies that are affordable
and not a part of EIG.

I'm using namecheap hosting at the moment and couldn't
      be happier.

HostGator, BlueHost, all kinda a melting pot now for Endurance International Group. Not sure about HG, but BlueHost got rid of their ticket support, so you have to wait in a pretty big line for Live Chat.

The people they have advising them are generally the people who dont speak out about their horrible policies.

Anyone who speaks out is removed pretty quickly.

That's what I use. I've heard their customer service is struggling to keep up, but it doesn't matter unless you have a website with serious traffic

I used to love them, and put all of my clients with them as their systems at the time were by far the best for the money they charged. This was around 5 years ago.

Now though, they've been nothing but a hassle. Websites have had significant downtime, customer service has been slow and incompetent, and billing was often incorrect (not sure how they managed that as everything should have been automated).

Eventually, after a tonne of research I ended up moving all of my clients to Siteground. While they still have their quirks, overall we've been really happy with them, and it's been a pleasure to not have to deal with the incompetent support at Hostgator.

So yeah, while they used to be a good host, personally I'd now avoid them at whatever price!

In my opinion, "A 45-day money-back guarantee" allows you to try hostgator at no risk! If you're not completely satisfied, you can cancel within 45 days for a complete refund. So make sure that their hosting can serve your needs.

But you will wait a month or more for a refund!

They don't need to pay affiliate money when the only way you can move is eig!!

Worth the money. Ive used them for a couple of years. The servers always stay online. The best part is the customer service. Ive been with them from their earlier days and their customer service has remained the same even though they have many more customers to look after.

I used them a while back (most of my sites are with Dreamhost) but decided to drop them. Dreamhost has no cPanel but good support etc.

They are terrible IMO. Part of the EIG group, allegedly shaving affiliate commissions, and way too expensive in comparison to better options.

Nope. I presently host sites with three providers; Host Gator, Bluehost and GoDaddy.

Host Gator and Bluehost are comparable on price. However, Host Gator has actually had downtime several times while I've been using them, and that is an unacceptable revenue killer. They were lights out just two weeks ago for almost 36 hours. Their customer support takes awhile, but is competent. I can't recommend them though.

GoDaddy is good if you pay for a dedicated server. They have the best customer service of the bunch. However, their shared hosting plans are bunk. Their CPanel has a built in governor that will essentially kill your site if you generate any significant amount of traffic whatsoever.

Bluehost is probably the best of the three, although their back end is pretty clunky and takes some getting used to. Maybe because they don't have the customer base that Host Gator and GoDaddy has, I don't know, but their servers perform really well comparatively. The thing with Bluehost is you are best off buying a long term deal, like 3 years, up front because it's heavily discounted. If you do annual agreements with them, you will end up paying a lot more.

Anyway, if anyone knows of a hosting company that is legitimately better than either of those three, please do tell. I'm not a big fan of any of them to be honest.

I've used them for 5 years now and my Wordpress sites sit there day in day out with out too many hassles.

The only major issue I've had there have been my phpBB forum being targeted by scammers which causes my entire account to get overloaded.

I have used host gator for some time for multiple small to medium sized sites and have never had an issue.

They are reasonably cheap and the website/back end is easy to navigate and use.

I can't comment on the customer support because I have never had a reason to contact them, which is another point for Host Gator I guess.

As mentioned above they are a part of the Endurance International Group. I was with a hosting company called Site 5 that were bought up by Endurance International Group and until then they were great - the customer service was amazing.

And then the buy out happened.

They actually deleted my website during a server update and sent me an email to say they would put it back up in the next few hours. Until then I couldnt access anything. 2 Weeks later I had sent countless support tickets, emails and phone calls there way and they couldnt even give me an ETA to when my site would be back up and I couldnt fix it myself (I had back ups at my end as well).

I ended up jumping to another provider (A2) who had me up and running in less than an hour.

My advice is not to touch any company in the group.

I have posted about them before but my posts were either removed or blocked by a moderator. (I have no idea why).

They were great until they were taken over a couple of years ago,

Google hostgators relationship with Sitelock. I was stung too,

My experience is there zero issues with them until things go wrong. The servers are normally fast and have great up times, so if you hit no snags you will experience a great service.

It is only when you need to contact customer services or technical support that things go badly.

Their MO seems to be to buy up hosting companies that are doing really well and then to dump everything apart from the brand and the client base. Everything is redirected to their central servers and all their contacts go to a central call centre that covers all of their brands.

This site keeps a running list of all of the companies they have bought and wrecked this way

Great host to start with - once you have a website that converts well move to a more reliable host instead. Hostgator can have down time issues.

    OMG, it's about $10.

If that's breaking the bank you have bigger problems than a host.

    Yes, it's worthy.

For me Hostgator is just OK. Don't know why people here are so crazy about them. I tried them once and I always had to submit a ticket and wait a couple of hours in order to solve technical issues. If you are looking for amazing performances and phenomenal support, then I would definitely recomand you siteground.com. The technician solved a critical issue (he had to code something) during the chat ! That's what I am calling a support !

Whenever I have any issue with potential HG downtime I immediately load up this page to see if I am the only one with issues OR if it extends to other HG members.

I just posted this link on another thread here, but I think this one warrants it as well since it is very active.

I use hostgator and like it. I had hassles getting started because they flagged my ID for review and I had to email in a copy of my driver's license and then wait for review. When I finally got on with customer service to cancel they pushed it through (took 4 hours of my saturday morning). Since then I have had zero problems, except when I applied to be an affiliate. It seems like as long as you don't want too much they deliver. It was affordable as well. If I ever make good money online I will probably switch to liquidweb or click funnels

My experience has been the same as many mentioned with Hostgator. The moment it was purchased by EIG the customer service went down the drain and for the first time I saw my site go down. I then moved to Arvixe which was great but guess who purchased them? EIG purchased them and there went Arvixe just like Hostgator. Liquidweb has been a great experience for me with great customer service but the price is higher. I heard alot if good things about siteground also but have not tried them personally.

I'm happy with them. I've had problems that have had me in touch with customer service and they took good care of me each time.

I've got a business account; that way you can have multiple sites on one hosting account (costs less that way).

Hostgator works great for small websites. When your site get more visitors your account might get suspended of using high CPU usages. This is one of the major problem with Hostgator.

Many would advise against them, while many would recommend them. Like anything else really.

What I like about them is that they actually offer monthly payment methods, instead of annually like a few others (double check this on others though, might have changed), so you can effectively try for 1 month without wasting too much money.

I've been using them for little over a year now, can't say I've regretted my decision. Good support (chat takes a little longer than hoped for though), okay interface, works 99 % of the time.

Try them out and see what you think, but as with anything else, have a look at reviews and comparisons with other hosts and packages.
