what to do after building a list?

So I am very bad at making money online. But I am very good at building list.

I am very bad at it because I don't know how people making big money with lists. I have many sites and have accumulated close to 1M emails in several lists.

I hear from time to time that people are making big money by building a list and getting commission. I am in a complete dark with the second part. How exactly do I get commission with my lists? What are the ways? Please be specific as much as possible. I hope it makes sense. Thanks!

Are your lists opt in? Double opt in? What was your goal in attaining their emails to begin with?

There are several lists. Some opt-in, some don't. Most emails are valid because most of them are FB logins. My goal was to learn about internet marketing so I start building list. I am a programmer by trade, so I don't know what I don't know about making money online. I did a lot of research about the topic. But overall, many different articles pull me to different directions. So now with the big list, I want to know what are my options from easy to hard to make money online as passive income.

        Empohs,

If you begin sending offers to your list, chances are pretty good that you will earn nothing, make a lot of your list members angry, and possibly get your mailing account shut down. Why?

List members will not be open to your marketing. They don't know who you are, they don't care for what you'll be selling, and some will possibly complain to your host. You see, there are many on your list that have not given you permission to invade their privacy. Your list(s) is very "cold" and you have no idea what you're doing.

If you want to salvage some value from what you have, first make a effort to clean your list. Offer something of great value within the market that you plan to serve and ask list recipients to "opt-in" to your new list. Only a small fraction will opt-in, proving that most of your list members don't really want you to market to them - if they did, they will opt in again.

You will be left with a small list, but it will be recent and "fresh."

If you don't know what market you're going to serve or how you're going to make money . . . you shouldn't bother the folks on your list because you're not ready to do Internet marketing.

To be more specific about the way I have built lists, I am a programmer. I created several online free tools. In other to use the tools, users have to log in. Since it started almost two years ago, I have sent any emails to anybody, except the ones that send me thank you, question emails, etc...

So do I need to re-opt in everything? what's the best way to approach this? For the case of users did not opt in, it's because they leave comments and their email address.

Having subscribers "opt-in" to a list establishes three things:
1- that they are interested in whatever it is you are giving them (usually something in your niche) in return for their contact information. You now know that they have interest in the niche - whatever it is.
2- that they are expressly giving you permission to contact them (usually there is wording on the opt-in form that they are being added to a mailing list) by signing up.
3- that their contact information is "fresh" or recent. Of course, at times subscribers will opt-in with a "throwaway" email address ... but there is not much you can do about it.

Those people that did not opt-in, like those that left comments for you, have not really given you their express permission for you to add them to a list.

So what I am suggesting is that you "clean" your list and make sure that every name on it is someone that has recently opt-ed in and given you permission to contact them.

All those people that have been on your list for years (without you contacting them) will probably have forgotten why they are on your list and will most likely unsubscribe or complain about you putting them on your list. Even if they don't complain and stay on your list, what are the chances that they will respond to a marketing offer you send them? Most likely, the chances are very poor given that they don't know who you are and they probably won't be interested in whatever you send.

So establish what niche you are going to work in and prepare a high value freebie in that niche that you can offer in exchange for their contact information. Usually, when people are hit "cold" with an offer to opt-in like this, not very many will respond. But this is a way to get some value (though probably small) out of your current list.

            The best to you,

            Steve

It can be very easy depending on how hungry your lists are. You don't have to reveal what niche your lists are but if they are internet marketing that, in my opinion, is the easiest to market to because the landscape of the profession is constantly evolving.

          well no,

would you rather eat veal today or drink milk for the next 20 years?

If he focuses on providing value to his list and taking the time to learn about their needs then, his list could possibly financially support him for years to come.

There are many ways to earn from a list, but the simplest path is to join 3 or 4 affiliate networks starting out. These are where you will get offers to promote to your list. Then, mail your list something free (but of value), to establish trust with them and make them know you provide information that is worth their time. After you have done this email them an offer you choose from one of the affiliate programs. Try mailing different offers at different times of the day to start to gauge the sweet spot of where their interest is and when you get the most engagement from them.

    Affiliate offers?

Seriously how did you build this list?

There are dozens of factors which decide whether or not you
can make money from a list, such as where the traffic comes
from, how and when they signed up for the list.

Your email copy also plays a large role.

Anyway, list building is tough and I don't think
you'll be able to make money from this list.

The more important question is: what type of incentive(s) or lead magnet did you give these people to opt in to your list? If someone never opted in to get some sort of information or value from you, you have no right trying to contact them to sell them anything.

Scraped? If not opt-in - what?

I don't believe one million and wonder if that is the number the OP meant.

Why did people sign up? What did you offer? What have you sent them? What is the open rate? Or are you only "collecting" and not working the list?

not interested in selling them? thats a flat out lie.

    Hey

I found myself in the same situation. I have a huge list & currently I'm doing Basic analysis to know all segments of my list (people on it) and I want to start making money out of it.

I also read people making tons of money and I feel sometimes that that is too much bragging to crush newbies's spirit (weel it's not working).

The best Next step I think is to join and Ad Network ... I believe Affiliate manager will contact you to know more about you & your type of traffic (which is email) ...

All of this aside !! plz If You guys wanna help, Just answer the question as simply as possible. If there is some details just gives us the different possibilities or options and then ask Your follow up !!

Start with the list who actually opted in. Forget the rest. Just because you've scraped a collection of valid emails does not mean you have permission to spam them with MMO offers.

Unless, of course, you aspire to be a true spammer and court the risks involved. Sending promotional emails to people who did not give permission to receive them is the definition of spam.

If you want to build a real business based on permission marketing, head to Amazon and pick up a copy of Ryan Deiss's List Machine book.

Scraping emails from FB logins is not the same as list building.

For you, that's such a loaded question--in a VERY GOOD WAY! You have a very GOOD prob here! You can sell OR SHARE those lists. You can absolutely monetize/make money from those lists, especially if you've segmented them...1) by promoting items they're interested in (via blogs, video, affiliate product, podcasts, etc.)...2) you can partner w/influencers (leverage their "celebrity") in each niche and parse the profits. Or 3) you can donate a few thousand to those of us who've replied to your post. ) *hint-hint wink-wink* JUST KIDDING. But wow.

(you're bad at making money online--if the money is in the list, you're sitting on several gold mines). #takeit Hope this helps. Congrats.

The best way to do it in my opinion is to give value to your list--tips, advice, or free reports, etc.

Then slowly recommend to them, QUALITY products, but do not just recommend them, tell them why you like them--explain to them, how this product will help them.

In my opnion i say this:

    1. Find out from your list what their PAIN is or PROBLEM is.
    2. Provide an offer for them to optin to get their permission to mail to them.
    3. the offer you can make either free or sell for $1 if you go fro $1 option you begin to build a buyers list which is better then a freebie list.
    4. Provide value through your emails by helping your subscribers get through their pain,
    5. Build that RELATIONSHIP with your subscribers you will make more money that way.
    6. you should begin to bring in an income.

Dont focus on the money, FOCUS on helping your subscribers you can sell through the emails that's my personal experience.

I found building a list of buyers does take some time, but it's worth it as they are ready to pay for help. Since you already have several lists from facebook clean up the list by sending them to optins first just like it was mentioned above by several people here

    Goodluck

Focused on giving value and not just about making money from your list.

Instead of sending emails about different affiliate offers, why not send them some free content as well?

It can be links to your blog or Youtube video.

Or just written content in your email with some pictures if your autoresponder allows you to upload them.
