What to Do When FB Bans Your Ad Account? (FB Pros Answer, Plz)

Hey guys,

Quick question.

I am writing because my Facebook ads account got suspended for "unusual activity" but I didn't see any unusual activity in my bank accounts, etc. and no one has the logins but me ... I have also provided photos of my U.S. government issued passport, but I got a generic response, which said:

"It looks like you sent us an ID that either doesn't match the information on this account or isn't on our list of acceptable IDs. To maintain the security of this account, we cant give you access or take any further action until we receive an acceptable ID.

The account is now locked, which means no one will be able to log into it without verifying their identity. While the account is locked, it won't be visible on Facebook or appear in search.

Learn more about the different types of ID we accept:

The stupid thing is, I sent in a photo of my government issued United States passport.

It is absurd that Facebook cannot reinstate my account ... especially after following Facebook's rules and providing the most comprehensive government issued I.D. that there is.

I am just about at my wits end. I don't know what to do here. I thought of creating a new account, but since my information is exactly the same ... it will probable get banned immediately too.

No?

What is a marketer supposed to do in this kind of horrifying situation? (Besides never use Facebook again?)

I have heard of other marketers opening another account with different email address, credit card details etc. and using a variation of their name.

The best thing you can do is to continue to work through Facebook to get the issue resolved.

Nobody here is going to be able to do it for you.

I would start by asking what they felt the discrepancy was with your passport.

Mike is right . . . this forum is not here to answer your support questions, especially since you broke the Facebook terms of service somehow and you need to work through the problem with Facebook support. No one here is going to be able to open up your old account or tell you why Facebook banned your access.

If it's anything like Google, it may not have been something the OP did that violated the TOS.

From the OP, the reason given was "suspicious activity", which could also mean unusual click patterns.

Either way, the answer really is "work through the problem with Facebook support", as you said.

Thank you John, for not launching in with immediate cynicism!

It's always nice to see someone going in with an innocent-until-proven-guilty mindset. It's extremely easy to get pipped by FB these days, regardless of what type of business you're running.

      @writeboywrite:

Having been through a couple of exciting episodes with FB support, I can tell you that the quality of help you'll get is directly dependent upon who answers your support ticket. It's a bit like getting your ads approved, it's often the luck of the draw.

Your best bet is to go facebook business support here and get the process started.

If you're not getting any sort of help, just shut down the ticket and start again. If you're polite and stick to the facts, you'll eventually get to someone willing to help.

PS: If it can't be resolved, then yep, sadly you'll have to set up another account.. the best way I've found to futureproof things is to set up a business.facebook account, which allows you to set up multiple advertising accounts under the one login. This is a way that you can quickly survive an account being banned for some obscure TOS reason.

You only get one shot at life - make it awesome.

Everyone else also gets just one crack at it - help make theirs awesome too... or, politely step out of their way.

Happens all the time, for no reason whatsoever. As soon as I made mine it got flagged right away. Two weeks later they gave it back. No explanations.

In the future, you can make 2 business accounts and a personal account. If one account gets suspended, you have 2 left.
