How to market a book store?

I'm running a book store with Christian books, and I've done some marketing. There's a lot of untapped potential here, as I can see from my sales numbers; from the little marketing I've done I've had a pretty good ROI. (Not a huge ammount of sales, but a decent number compared to how much traffic the site is getting)

Now, the problem is my low/non-existing budget, and I really don't know how to market a book store. I've read "everything" about guerrilla marketing methods, but having tried a lot of those in the past, trying to market my other company, I found out that most of them doesn't work that well.

So my question is this - are there anyone here with experience with this kind of a store and marketing?

Open for all suggestions!

Edit: This is in Norway, the web store looks good and works well, we've got Facebook pages set up etc. The problem is reach.

Join as many Christian forums as you can and become a contributing member. Then add a sig line linking to your storm if it's allowed in the TOS.

Facebook groups are another option. Do you have a facebook business page?

Assuming you have at least some budget for advertising, this could be a huge opportunity for you, although a slow burn.

      1. Have a look in FB for a group called "Cult Of Copy" - it's a great model to work from - this guy has really nailed it.

      2. Create your own group in FB modelled after the CoC group.

      3. Get some great info in there, and start advertising it/sharing it to your community. You could even do as Rose suggests and get people in there by using a sig link and posting in forums. Doesn't really matter.. the hard part is the beginning where you're attempting to get some traction.

      4. Use the group to give away or sell introductory info, but most of all get the email address.

      5. Use the autoresponder you like best to start selling best sellers to your list. Nothing beats having a great big targeted email list of people that like and respect you and your business. Hell.. nothing beats a small targeted list of people that like and respect you!

You only get one shot at life - make it awesome.

Everyone else also gets just one crack at it - help make theirs awesome too... or, politely step out of their way.

We don't have all that many Christian forums in Norway. Besides, forums over here are dying as Facebook has taken over everything.. But I do post in several groups on Facebook, but I don't see a lot of results from doing that..

Ah, a list! I thought of that months ago but then I forgot all about it. Thanks for reminding me. Will look into that asap.

Apologies mate, got a few too many emails from the WF and killed a bunch of thread subscriptions.. mistakenly including this one!

Yep, Colin's the owner of that group.. and he does very well with that FB group, and is well worth emulating IMHO. In fact, one day when things are a little quieter I have the intention of doing so myself.

Build an email list. Send them a really
nice looking email newsletter where you
review / tell them about the latest books
    in your store.

Learn how to write great sales copy so that
you can entice them into buying the books.

Every time someone buys a book you should
give them a flyer, or something that tells them
about this list (You can also put these in the books
themselves) or just ask for their email and add
    them to your list.
