Any Software developers?

Hey again,

I was wondering if anyone here might be able to develop a program for me in the future? I am just curious about costs right now, I really have NO IDEA how much people charge to write a program. I really don't have very much money, so if anyone charges way too much I just can't afford it, sadly. Thanks a lot guys.

Programming is all about trading time for money. The more ill-defined and complex a specification is (or NO spec!) then the more time it will take to arrive at something you consider "usable".

Then again, sometimes is very easy to say what you want, but extremely difficult to implement it in practice.

Getting software written is like trying to tell an artist how to create a picture you have in your head. And for a lot of people, the picture in their head is extremely blurry and often has big blotches on it.

the more well you developed the specification, the better for a developer to estimate the time. however, in most cases, it always takes longer time. many guys learned from guru, always put something like "it is a easy job if you know what to do" in the description, however, in most cases, people just do not know what they want.

keep in your mind, in most cases (again), you get what you paid for. good developer is not cheap.

"it is a easy job if you know what to do"

A good friend of mine, a respected member of this forum and a programmer was ready to tear "one of the gurus" from limb to limb for this comment.

The only people who would be impressed by this would be people who don't know any better. What a dampener to important communication that needs to occur between programmer and client if the client's needs are truly to be fulfilled.

As someone who spent over 20 years in software development in that hotbed of software, Silicon Valley -- I would tend to agree.

It's a piece of trash, and if a programmer really DOES know what they are doing, they will not respect you nor want to work with you. JMO, of course.

OTOH -- there are a lot of bulls***ers who say they can do stuff that they can't do. And you're left holding the bag.

Start off with good intentions on both parties -- and you might actually have something worthwhile.

My opinion is that the best joint ventures, and the best software products, are made by folks who work well together, not folks that are busy trying to bs each other.
