What type of hosting is suitable large websites?

I have a few websites with 10.000+ pages and posts each and I need a new my webhost so my question is where can i find a host that can handle this kind of volume and traffic?

I don't want to face any additional charges (Other than hosting package charges), suspending/terminating an account/website because of some hosting plan technical limitations.

If shared web hosting is not suitable for these kind of websites, then which type of hosting account is suitable, who can provide this type of service and how much it would cost?

Anyone?

I think that almost every web hosting company today offers an option for business plan accounts. It comes unlimited Bandwidth and Unlimited Domains. So pick up one that has good reputation like hostgator or bluehost.
    All my best wishes,

Hostgator and Hostmonster are the best, they provide unlimited space and bandwith. But if your website has very large database, I suggest you should use cloud platform, ie: Google or Amazon cloud is good one.

I would suggest that you read reviews on these companies. I wouldnt go for the "unlimited" plans so quickly.

With such a high volume of pages/posts, its more likely your account will be suspended/terminated by the hosting company if you go for a shared hosting.

They wouldn't tell you exactly why they are suspending your account but they will come up with some random stuff that will drive you crazy and ultimately force you to drop them and move to another host.

The reason being that they cannot simply say that you have "too many pages" when they are offering unlimited bandwidth and space. Most hosting companies nowadays offer unlimited hosting packages but they all come with a "hidden limitation". When they see that your site is consuming too much bandwidth and resources, they do this so that the other customers are not affected by this. Just like when you load a program or software in your Windows or MAC and you see that its consuming too much CPU and RAM and making your system slow, you get worried about it and ultimately drop that and move on to another.

I had faced a similar situation with a shared host based in Romania where the hosting company terminated my account without any notice. Upon asking them about why they did that, they started coming up with random reasons which kept changing from time to time. I sensed that they just want me to go away, so I just moved to another host.

The best way and the most secured way to host such a large website would be to get a dedicated server. There are basically two different kinds of dedicated servers.

    1) Managed Dedicated Server
    2) Unmanaged Dedicated Server

    1) Managed Dedicated Server

A Managed Dedicated Server is a package where you are all set to launch your website. It's a complete product where all the basic things like Apache (web server), mySQL (database), firewall, phpmyadmin and all the basic things needed to run a website comes pre-installed. These servers are generally "expensive" since everything is installed and maintained by the hosting company.

    2) Unmanaged Dedicated Server

An unmanaged Dedicated Server is a bare box dedicated server where nothing is installed. It's like purchasing a new PC or laptop with no operating system. You will be responsible for doing the installations and the management of the apps. These servers are usually cheaper and you can even find a good dedicated server for around $10-$20 a month.

Right now I have an unmanaged dedicated server myself at $12/month (purhcased on black friday sale) with 8 Gigs of RAM and 1TB HDD which is more than enough for running the sites I have.

If you want a good unmanaged dedicated server, you can try looking at the following sites which offer good prices and a good server.

    http://online.net/
OneProvider - Worldwide hosting solutions and dedicated servers (Many locations to choose from)
    http://www.ovh.ie/

I know if you google them for reviews, most of them would be showing bad reviews. The reason being that most people don't know the difference between a managed and unmanaged dedicated servers. Most think that $15 a month means they can get a server and start using it instantly without installing anything. I have been personally using the above sites since the last 8 years and have had no problems at all with them regarding any kind of website that I have hosted with them, big or small.

If you're looking to deal with high traffic volumes, you definitely do not want to use Shared Hosting. This means that your site is being stuffed into an already packed server and is likely to experience downtime and crashing.

Personally, I wouldn't recommend any of the bigger name companies like HostGator or BlueHost, as they're both under the EIG and suffer from lower service as a result.

Of course, dedicated hosting is what you would be better with. Most hosting companies have unlimited allowances (space and bandwidth, etc) on the higher-level packages, though personally I would highly recommend WPX Hosting. They're able to handle high traffic volume no problem and even their lowest-level packages have generous allowances.
On a side note, most hosting companies will cut you off at the knees if you exceed their parameters in terms of traffic or space, but WPX always contact first and talk through what's going on.
Have a look and see what you think.

Hope that was helpful! Good luck

Try a dedicated server, you are your own host, more expensive but you won't experience the headache of a shared hosting specially if you have considerable amount of traffic or using higher bandwidth... or at least a VPS (Virtual Private Server)...

Your website traffic is huge than you can opt for a VPS or dedicated server. You can try liquidweb for vps and dedicated web hosting.

I would not use a VPS or a dedicated server. That is so 20th century....

For 21st century web sites and web applications, I would use an elastic cloud or cloud based provider.

Host gator has cloud based solutions and not too much more expensive than their regular options.

  • I don't advice you to go with hostgator, too many 504 errors, big server response time and lots of warriors here are complaining about their support.

I recommend using Amazon cloud hosting for huge websites. You can select bucket region to optimize page loading speed.

Host gator are the worst option you can select. Especially if you have home buisness.
    Stay away from them.
I am hosting with A Small Orange. More than happy with them.

I will recommend you to go for dedicated hosting. Because this type of hosting can handle a large number of traffic and allows to edit some of important file which is not allowed in VPS and shared hosting.

If I were you I would be searching for hosting companies on my own, then I would pose these questions to them. After I narrowed my search down I would then seek out reviews and commentary from customers of those companies.

Then I might come here and ask if anyone has had any experience with these companies. Because as you see from the answers here they are the stock answer for this question "Hostgator and Bluehost"

A decent shared host can easily handle 10,000 pages assuming you use a CMS (ex: Wordpress) and store the pages on a MySQL database.

The reason the database makes a difference is most host base shared hosting limits on inodes.

A dedicated server would be the next step up from shared hosting but make sure you get one that's managed even If it cost more money.

Have a look at VPS accounts from hostingsource.com and hosting.co.uk.
Plans are full-featured and prices are competitive. Support is helpful any time you contact them.

Maybe you can opt for cloud-based platforms like Amazon. They can surely keep up with your demands. Plus, works great too!

I know this is "techy" but once setup you are good to go for awhile. DigitalOcean + Serverpilot + ManageWP. Save and secure. You can even use Heatshield.io to protect DDOS attacs. ManageWP or CodeGaurd can help with backups.

But is maybe difficult to setup if you don't know the processes.

Now you can get affordable dedicated server plans with best hosting features. For huge traffic on website I would prefer dedicated servers. VPS9.net is providing highly configured dedicated servers at very low price.

basically it depends on your traffic. if you have 3000+ visits/day, I would go for a VPS. there are tons companies offering this service.

Most real hosting companies offer VPS servers (part of a server) and dedicated servers (an entire server). If a single server isn't enough to handle your traffic you can rent out more than one server.

What really matters is not the amount of pages, but the amount of visitors. What's your current web hosting company? Did they ask they to upgrade your web hosting package?

The four web companies recommended by WordPress.Org are:
    Bluehost, SiteGround, FlyWheel and DreamHost.

If you need more resources, try LiquidWeb.

SBI (Solo Build It, also known as SiteSell or Site Build It, by Ken Evoy) is designed specifically for hosting mega sized websites. They do not recommend using their service if you have fewer then 1,000 pages. The average site size is 4,000 to 8,000 pages. They host your site on a semi-dedicated server (only 4 sites are assigned to each server). Bandwidth is unlimited. My own site has 6,000 pages, graffics heavy (55,000+ images and 600+ videos) and in the 4 years I've been with them, I've never had any off time.

It's not a cheap service though, SBI is basically the Rolls Royce of the web hosting industry - you have to be willing to pay for the server and 100% up time regardless of bandwidth; definitely the most expensive web host service out there, so if money is an issue, they may be out of your league. But if you truely want a host that can give a 10,000 page site with heavy traffic 100% uptime regardless of bandwidth, that is specifically the sort of thing SBI was designed to do. It's intended to host business sites with lots of pages and heavy traffic, so not right for everyone, but possibly might be right for the type of site you are describing.

If traffic is your main concern you may want to look into cloud hosting or maybe even a dedicated server for optimum performance and functionality. I won't recommend any as there are so many out there. Keep in mind that these will more than likely be the most expensive options. I suggest doing a search for the best price and service and going with one that gives you the most funcionality for your money.
