Working with Affiliates: Third party vs self managed

Looking for thoughts about preferences about how affiliate marketing is managed. What is the preference for Affiliate Marketers???

As a product creator, I looked at Clickbank and a few other similar sites with interest of having our site/product promoted. However, a lot of what I found appeared very "spammy" or down right dishonest - promotion sites built to appear as legitimate "Review" sites that obviously aren't. We do not want these types of sites linking to us.

As a result, we decided to install AffialiateWP on our site with the hope of manually approving affiliates we think will avoid using any deceptive marketing techniques. Obviously, we now have the challenge of getting in front of affiliates that might be interested in working with us.

Can anyone weigh in on how you feel about working with a product creator that is self-managing affiliate functions with a Wordpress plugin?

You can only do so much yourself and frankly we as individuals do not or can not comprehend it all.

I guess my main fear is just throwing our site out there for anyone to promote in whatever way they want to do it. We want to keep our BRAND on the "up and up" so to speak. We're worried about people who are willing to lie or deceive in order to make a quick buck.

The big question is...How do we get our product/site in front of the right Affiliates?
