As an Affiliate, is there a good number/quantity of sites (or sub-sites)?

If you're starting out as a new affiliate, how many concurrent sites would be good to have? In other words, is it acceptable to be pursuing 5 different niches with one site apiece? Or would it be better to focus on a single niche and then have multiple sites targeting different segments within that one niche?

So Strategy A would be:
- Niche 1: Razors; Site: BestRazors.com
- Niche 2: Duck Calling; Site: BestDuckCalls.net
- Niche 3: Womens Studies; Site: BestWomenStudyCourses.org

Or would you go with Strategy B:
- One single Niche: Women's Studies
- Site: ThirdWave Feminism.com
- Site: Feminist Debating.com
- Site: Suffrage2017.com
- Site: FemaleSocialJusticeRights.com
- Site: TheNewWomansRights.co
- Site: ProudWomanThisYear.org
- Etc..

Which strategy would be better, and how many concurent websites do you maintain or manage at once, assuming all of them were bringing in some degree of money each month?

Thoughts?

If you're just starting out I would focus on one niche and don't jump around too much. Once you get your first site build out properly then from there you could either expand or move to another niche. It's really up to you.

Both of these strategies leave a lot of room for interpretation, and the assumption that each site will be earning some degree of money is a big one...

So I guess first, where is the traffic coming from? Strategy B seems to be SEO based, and Strategy A sounds like it'll be better with some form of paid traffic.

Without having a better idea of your business model, let's move those strategies aside, and take a look more at the productivity angle.

Unless you're really good at it, and have very strong systems in place, it's deceptive how long and difficult it can be just to build just one website and monetise it. Many of those (perhaps most) who give it a whirl don't succeed.. and that's just with one site.

    FWIW I'd go for:

Strategy C: Build one site, in one niche, learn one awesome traffic source, and work on it until it's profitable.

You only get one shot at life - make it awesome.

Everyone else also gets just one crack at it - help make theirs awesome too... or, politely step out of their way.

As long as that one traffic source is not SEO.

Seo is great if you get some traffic from it, bonus, but it should never be depended on. If you need to go the "free" route, great content + social media works well.

I say pick one, because its so easy to get overwhelmed, trying to do to much, get no results then quit, is what a lot of people in the industry do, So pick one niche and focus only on that niche, and when u start making money, scale up, and focus on one traffic source from different vendors.

Start just only a site and focus on a sub niche and not a general niche because you will have a lot of competition .For example a subniche will be Sport - golf-golf for people over 40 etc you get the point
