Before buying anything you need to research very careful about that, example for this situation, website, that means you will need to ask the buyer everything about the website, he need to give you the site's traffic report, site revenue monthly,..and any document relate to that website.

If you want to start your own, $1200 is enough to do. You will need to buy domain + hosting, setup up website and then promote it. So this will need some skills to do.

    Good luck to you,

If I were to buy a domain I would run it through Majestic.com to see it's link profile as well as check out it's moz rank etc.
However if you are just getting into the business and don't know what you are doing, I would suggest saving your $1200 for now, build the website on a fresh domain and then maybe 301 it over later. Trying to preserve the power of a URL is actually quite complicated, buying a whole functioning profitable website is much easier. You don't really want to buy an aged domain and then start building a website on it, before you are done building the website you will find there isn't much traffic coming through already.
Often times like with my own website the URL you see is not itself well linked to, it is the old website that I have 301 to it that has all the power, and is feeding it through. If I sold my current domain I could just redirect that power to another domain, then sell that one, etc. This is actually quite a common scam on websites like flippa.

Does the seller have a good reputation already or are they new?

Honestly your better off to first understand what and how you market. Without the marketing or traffic you can not grow.

The stuff of flippa is true. You can contact the owner and ask questions to qualify them first. If they do not respond back or talk with you then I would stay away.

What kind of reputation does the seller have.

Have they been selling sites for years--or is this the first one.

I would personally stay away from this, and make the site myself.

What kind of a site are you looking to build?

Because you're asking these questions, it suggests to me that you would be better off not buying anything right now. There's a good chance you will regret the fact that you spend your money not knowing exactly what you were doing.

More evidence that you are not ready to buy any web sites or marketing products just yet. You don't have to spend much money beyond a simple hosting account ($5/mo or less) and a domain name ($3 or less for a year) in order to start a web site and learn all about online marketing.

Once you know what you're doing, have identified a niche and a business strategy (and model), you will want to have your $1200 nestegg to begin promoting what you are selling.

Put your money away and don't listen to all the marketers that will come forward to make you rich by purchasing their "guaranteed system" for newbies.

@Steve - where do you buy your domains? LOL

@OP - As has been said repeatedly, hold on to your money...I'd recommend getting your feet wet with a free weebly site, then maybe getting an $0.88 Namecheap TLD (one of the .us or .site or whatever that they have on special) and pointing it to your free weebly site, just to get you used to how to build a site and manage a domain first before really investing..personally, I prefer to create my own fresh domains (I've only purchased one that wasn't already "available" once - and the results were no different from the fresh one - and I do not know anyone who has had any different experiences - therefore I see absolutely no value in paying the extra $...

When you have a clear vision of what you want your site to look like and how you want it it to function, what you need and don't need, and know enough to not get easily ripped off, then look into investing in the site and (the means of gaining visitors) paid traffic (adwords, 7search, bing ads, etc).

      Hope this helps

Godaddy has a $.99 promotion going on right now. (I'm not an affiliate and I don't make anything from this link).

I've done both: buy from Flippa and build a site based on a Flippa success. They both have their benefits:

    Buy from Flippa (Pros)
    • If you don't have the technical skills to build a website yourself, buying a complete site already up and running may be necessary
    • Already generating traffic
    • Already generating revenue
    • You can focus on improvements and traffic rather than developing an overall marketing approach
    • If site already converts well, spending money on generating more traffic (i.e., ads) instantly creates profit
    Buy from Flippa (Cons)
    • More expensive than building yourself
    • Always the risk of fake/false traffic and income stats
    • Past success does not guarantee future success
    • The 100s of terrible possible answers to the question, "Why is he selling?"
    Build your Own (Pros)
    • Small investment (domain + hosting + time)
    • Total control over design, content, and monetization methods
    • If you can identify a niche with little competition, you could quickly dominate the market
    Build your Own (Cons)
    • Basing your site from a Flippa success story indicates there may be high competition (e.g., harder to rank)
    • More up front investment of time (and $ if outsourcing) to create content
I can see that you're worried about the validity and truthfulness of Flippa sellers. You should be. I've had to participate in 3 investigations with Flippa staff to ban members for false statistics.

Flippa has some good guidelines for buyers:

Starting a new site and making it successful takes a lot these days, especially as you can't rank sites as easy as you could back in the day.

I will rather take time to look for a genuine site on flippa that ranks and makes money, than start a new one.

Amongst the trash are some good sites on Flippa, but I find they're rather priced for perfection. If you're gonna buy here, look for a niche that you know reasonably well and a site that has traffic that could be easily expanded (e.g. by adding a forum).

I've done reasonably well launching new sites after 2012 but yes there is a lot of competition these days. I mean look at YouTube - every niche has 1000's of videos and the quality is going up a lot (i.e. professional looking intros etc. etc.).

I think maybe Jason or someone mentioned this in passing recently. But both seller and buyer should really make an effort to correspond through email or preferably Skype and talk and negotiate and set the expectations in an overt manner.

Get to know them ( even if briefly) and let them know your goals and what to expect from them. And vice versa

The reason why Iam interested is I'm planning to buy some Sites here myself soon. And want to make it as smooth as possible

Buy a domain and some good hosting and install WordPress. Nearly all hosts now offer "one-click" WP install.

WP is insanely easy to learn and with editors like OptimizePress, it gets even easier to build cutting edge sites of all types.

There are also getting to be a number of "Instant WP" installs available where all you do is buy your hosting, add your domain and you can instantly login to the WP dashboard and start building your site on a temp. domain. When your domain propagates, you simply change it in your dashboard.

For that kind of money you are not going to get anything you could not build quickly and easily. Just build it yourself and dont waste your money.

The only think I would ever pay for at that kind of money is a domain name that I really wanted.

There's no best way to do it than to build a new site. Come on, work on something you have passion and interest with! Do not just buy an "established" one, just because you think that it "earns". You can surely make your site better and yield more through time. So, give it your best shot. Good luck!

    Hi:

You should learn as much about the niche you are going into before buying on Flippa. Some people who have bought on Flippa have had success while others have not.

Build your own site and build your own traffic. You can use paid and organic sources.
It doesn't cost $1200 to build a site and run traffic to it.

    Good luck,

I would go ahead with buying the website.

Worst thing is that you don't make a penny back from this site and you learn your lesson not to do it ever again.

Best thing is that you start to earn your investment back and then some within a few months.

List out the sites the seller sold in the past and see if the sites are still around

Message the 'new owners' of the sites

Also, run SEMRUSH and MAJESTIC searches on the site you're thinking of buying

You should be able to put 2 and 2 together

If you don't know what you're doing, you will get ripped off on Flippa or any other site auction.

Even If the site has traffic, it could be search traffic propped up by followed backlinks owned by the seller so they can turn off the traffic right after the sale is finished If the want.

    Do your own research.

If you want to get earnings right now, you can buy site from the Flippa. If you want to by a site from the flippa, you need to check the following things. such as is the content original? no plagiarism, please. how many traffic? is the traffic is from the Targeted audience? how old the site is? What is the Page rank? something like these. Then you can buy the site. Thanks for your advance.

    Also, "time" is a factor.
With building your own site it will most likely take more time before you see any results whereas if you purchase "the right site" you could see results a lot quicker.
Of course, there are so many other factors involved too.

If you are ok with gradually working your way up...and being in total control of how you set up your site from the start then I would research a niche, get a good domain name and start from scratch.

On Flippa 98% website owners are liars that they make income and traffic proof as well. I use to think to buy a website but what I did I asked website owners to place my own banner on they website with tracking link to make sure that site is really getting traffic and there's an activity going on but NO one want to do that because they KNOW that they income and traffic ( verified by google ) is B.S. You can drive fake traffic that google counts as real - simple as that. So be careful before you buy many scams there.

I saw a site recently selling on Flippa.com for over $3,000 and proclaiming to have over $900 a month in Amazon affiliate sales. I checked the site map of the site and it had over 60 posts. I then checked on Google to see how many posts were actually indexed by typing in site: [name of site] and only six posts were indexed. I also noted that the Amazon store page was nothing more than ugly looking links to products and the front page of the store had mainly free kindle books.

That is the exact type of site you want to stay away from on Flippa.
