The one thing that will kill your OM dreams

After working in this industry for a reasonable amount of time I have heared many many interesting stories - incredibly successes and sad failures. As you can imagine most of the stories I'm relating to are failure related.

We covered it multiple times in this forum. If you belive that you will make a F"* ton of money tomorrow evening, you're fooling yourself. No matter what venture you decide to start it takes work A LOT of work, it takes more failures than you can probably imagine. You will lose money on the way - heck you might even scare away friends and family because they don't understand why you chose to take that route.

We heared all that before - what's the point of this post?

There's one thing that is responsible for 99 % of the "sad stories" and failures in this forum. It's something that I was guilty of myself and it's probably one of the harder things to master when it comes to working for yourself.
In order to succeed in business you HAVE TO BE persistent. Especially in online marketing we are flooded with incredible opportunities every single day. It takes nothing more than five minutes and you will find the "bulletproof system to make a killing online". Another 10 minutes and you found the "3 Step process to make a million in 3 weeks - guaranteed". So no wonder we're getting a little confused here and there.

If you're falling for those incredible offers you are guilty of the "shiny balls syndrome" yourself and it's gonna kill you. Offer by offer, failure after failure. When ever you don't find success immediately you jump onto the next thing, because this time you're "gonna make 10.000 $ in 4 weeks - guaranteed". You won't. It's as simple as that.

So what's the solution for this? I believe there are two sides to this.
1: STOP BUYING BULLSHIT! Seriously - there's always gonna be "the next big think" that promises you a fortune over night. If they do - stay away! In this industry you only make money by providing actual value - for more than just a day or two. In order to find the right program or mentor try searching for the industry leaders in whatever niche you wanna be successful in. Most of the "big boys" either offer a program or they at least document their life very well. I.eg. Grant Cardone, Gary Vaynerchuk or Anik Singal.
These guys understood that providing value is the most effective weapon to make sales! Day after day, month after month and year after year.
2: Don't buy immediately after seeing the video / reading the sales pitch. This ons is more important than you can imagine. We marketers know how to get you excited - we get you jumping off your chair for 10-45 minutes and then we make you an offer you can't possibly resist. STAY AWAY - at least for now. Get into the habit of only making rational decisions when it comes to investing in anything. If you see a program that you like:
- watch the whole presentation.
- step away from the computer.
- write down how it's different from the other programs that didn't bring you any success.
- research the seller. Is he to be taken seriously?
- is the price in fair proportion to the value that you'll receive?
- is it a pyramid scheme (if so - no matter how much money you can make - stay away from it. There's NO way to provide value with that rubbish.

Where are you in your online journey? Can you see your (past) -self in this?

I can't wait to hear from you guys!

Good tips but most people won't listen, that's why there's still a tiny percentage of people who are successful, offline and online.

Good post. I can relate to what you're saying.

Most things can work - what stops people is their inability to take action.

I used to be there myself.

It's easy to say you are serious but your actions have to reflect that. It takes discipline to start and grow a business.

Most would rather watch a movie than write a piece of content. All this wasted time adds up - BIG time.

Once I finally made the decision that I am finally going to do it, I got to work and started seeing results.

I am learning along the way and my business is growing along with it.

In my experience, that is what it takes.

    Hi there,

Great post. Actually, these kind of crappy stuff just lie everywhere, but, I have come to a point where I don't believe it anymore, unless I made it, unless I have known a real person test it, or unless I have tried and seen it myself.

In this free world of IM, we always have to be cautious. Newbies have to be more cautious, I must state. Because a lot of people think we're doing easy work and earning big, easy money, but they don't know what's going on in the process; how many sleepless nights, missed social life and family times, to get here. That's why a lot of people enter giddy, but only few end strong.

Spending money like this is a real business also contributes to the growth of your business. So for people who think they can build an empire for free on the Internet, shrug off those thoughts now, because it's not true. LOL

When I first started out online I did this.

I jumped from idea to idea.

And I made tons of purchases with thinking them through.

My best advice for someone who is starting out is to find something that you will do, and stick to it.

For example, if you do not like the idea of making video's do not buy course after course on video marketing--find something--like blogging or ghost writing or writing kindle books--something that you will actually do.

If you do this, you will be a lot farther along the path of making it online.
