Thoughts on these Music Promotion companies?

I'm an aspiring artist trying to get my music out there. My YouTube channel doesn't have a lot of content at the moment, but I've got a high budget music video in the works and more music coming soon. I'm just planning ahead.
I've allocated a few thousand dollars to focus on the marketing side of things to give my social media pages and YouTube channel a bit of a boost.

Here are some companies I have found that claim to do that:
http://www.miccheckglobal.com/servic...your-fan-base/
Music Video Promotion Company | Rive Video Music Video Submission Service
Music Video Promotion Company - HIP Video Promo
Range of Music Marketing Services | MusicPromoToday

I'm strictly staying away from companies that are selling guaranteed blackhat views/likes so please don't even mention Fiverr or anything similar as a recommendation.

I'm somewhat convinced that these 4 companies are legit because:
1. 3 of them don't have a "Buy It Now" option but instead offer quotes, and they don't just approve anyone's content so they basically have the right to reject your application.

2. They are NOT cheap. You can easily spend over $5000 just on marketing.

3. 2 of the companies have mentioned some big artist names on their frontpages. I'm assuming they would definitely have to be legit or they would be in for some heavy lawsuits from those artists.

What are your thoughts? I've never used any services like these before (apart from Facebook ads).

PS: I'm truly grateful for any advice given here, but please avoid mentioning things related to social media marketing as I am already on it and doing everything I can there with that side of things. I'd like to do "more" on top of that.

Thanks so much in advance!

id be skeptical, unless they were one to one selling music, i dont think they would do good, maybe some high level blog or news site posts and hope they work for you.

if you think about it, how many times have you saw a banner ad for music and clicked it? me personally when i see them i immediately say "get this shit off my page"

so my suggestion is go start talking to people and networking

caveat: i have no experience in this field, just what my mentor told me

That's a bummer. I wish there was a way to hire experienced parties to handle all the marketing or even a consultant for something like this.

Apart from social media, I don't even know where to start with this. All my research just keeps taking me back to where I started.

Have you joined some of the musician forums online? Many of those have some good advice on promoting yourself online. Free ebook about promoting your music on this site

I don't know that any of the above links has THE answer - but I wouldn't hire expensive promoters until I have read everything available on the subject on specialty music sites and musician forums.

Here's my advice on music promotion after promoting various bands over the last 6 years... https://medium.com/@stevelongoria/7-...81f#.9enxqdow1

How many songs do you have? I'd focus on writing, recording and promoting singles. You turn each single into a campaign and push it hard for a month, then work on the next one. If it's going to hit, it will, if it doesn't after a month it's better to just go onto the next song that might hit.

      Thanks for the responses, guys.

I'm a little bit skeptical of a lot articles and eBooks about promoting your own music because they either only point out things I am already doing or they are not from very credible authors who aren't even well-known in the music industry. If they claim to be able to teach people to be successful in the music industry, why is it that they themselves aren't successful?

If someone like Taylor Swift, Nicki Minaj, Michael Jackson, Rammstein or any big artist wrote ANYTHING about how to promote your own music, I would analyse every single word that comes from them because their own success is proof that they know what they are doing.

I'm aware of what CD Baby does, and I'm already using a similar service. I'm using a service called Distrokid, which basically lists all your songs on iTunes, GooglePlay, Spotify etc. for a yearly fee.

Good advice in your article, I'm doing all of it at the moment except for Flyers. I used to be part of a band that played many shows but it's only recently that I've ventured out into becoming a solo artist. I don't have big plans to play shows as of yet, I'm mostly interested in growing a Youtube fanbase.

I've only got 2 songs released at the moment, and another will be on its way by next week or so.
I've just finished filming a very expensive music video with a strong focus on a story, which will be ready in a few weeks but I want to make sure I've figured out ways to promote my Youtube videos before its release or I would feel pretty demotivated.

Feel free to check out my 2 songs in 2 different genres:

      Pop:

      Rock:

Awesome! Yea for your upcoming video, I'd do a marketing campaign that involved Facebook ads (target fans of artists similar to yourself) and do a ground game with concert sized posters around your city directing people to watch your latest music video by going to your website.

CD Baby.com has been around for quite sometime. I have no idea about effective their paid services are but there is a ton of free articles and guides on how to promote music on their website.

Just a quick update, I decided to try out Google Adwords for 2 days. I will say that I am quite disappointed in the results.
My video's views jumped by over 1,800 views in the 2 days, but little to no engagement at all. There were only a few thumbs ups added and 1 new comment, which doesn't really add up.
It's almost like purchasing fake views from bot accounts but in a perfectly legal way since it's YouTube themselves selling them. If that makes any sense.

What's Music Niche? Is that a promotional tool on YouTube?

Don't spend money sending traffic to someone else's site.

The beauty of YT is the organic traffic it provides. The way to get traffic is to get in YT search results.

My YouTube channel doesn't have a lot of content at the moment,
This is a problem. Check out this post for some traffic generating ideas:

Good advice there, and I will keep all that mind.

I also strongly agree with you there, but I don't believe the number of videos you have on a channel should be the main determinant of how big your fanbase can grow. I could probably upload a couple of extra videos of me doing home recording covers (like so many Youtubers do), but that's something I don't enjoy doing and it will almost feel like I'm doing it for the sake of forcing out more content.
I suppose when my Youtube channel has more subscribers and people who follow it, it'd be fun to do some Vlogs every now and then or teasers for upcoming songs. But for now, apart from just uploading studio recorded songs, I don't think viewers would even bother with more casual content.

Here are just some examples of Youtube channels with so little content, but they already have a following.
      https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCG9...ZbF0MCA/videos

      Danny Worsnop:
      https://www.youtube.com/user/DannyWorsnop
Danny Worsnop is also the lead vocalist of a very big and established band called Asking Alexandria so obviously there is already a massive following there so maybe that's not the best example.

I know of a few music Youtube channels that come out of nowhere with only 1-3 videos, 1 of them makes a breakthrough and goes almost viral, then every video after that is just as popular. They don't end up with a lot of videos on their channels, but every video is a high production quality video. It's almost like quality over quantity and it works well for them.

The opposite of that would be musicians doing lower quality home recordings of themselves doing cover songs and uploading a lot of videos on their channels, which they do gain a following after some time, but it can take years especially when you're competing with so many others doing cover songs.

Surely, there has to be a formula somewhere that works!
