Amazon Associates Letting Banned Accounts Apply Again - Policy Change?

Hi Everyone,

A few months back My Amazon associates account was banned after it was wrongly linked to some previously closed account.

It showed the typical "This account has bee closed. Access to this site is for historical purposes only." message.

But now, the message has changed. It says,

This account is closed and will not generate further referral fees. Details regarding your closure were sent to the email address on file. Access to this site is for historical purposes only. In order to participate in the Associates Program again, you'll need to re-apply for a new account as we are unable to reinstate your closed account. To apply with the same e-mail address, sign out of your current closed account, and then click the 'Join now for free' button to submit a new application. We will evaluate your application and notify you of its acceptance or rejection. Keep in mind your original Associates ID is no longer active. If you have affiliate links on your website, you'll want to update them to use your new Associates ID.

I'm unable to understand, if they have just opened the doors only for me or every banned associate is getting this message.

What I can understand from this message is that they're telling me I can create a new account and re-join the program (if I want to).

Are there any banned amazon associates in this forum that can confirm if they're getting the same message or not? And if anyone has tried to sign up again after this message?

I think that this may be a boilerplate answer.

In many cases, it may depend on the original reason for banning the account. For example, I opened my associate account back in the days when you had to fill out and sign a paper application and fax it back to Amazon. I lost that account when I missed a notice about complying with the COPPA disclosures, and missed the deadline. Federal law required Amazon to shut down my account.

Contrast this with someone losing their account for wilfully violating the TOS, like putting associate links in emails, or trying to use Amazon trademarks without permission, etc.

The new language gives them an opening to readmit people like me, and still reject serial offenders.

I had an Amazon account. Mine was closed because my state passed some kind of tax bill that Amazon didn't like. I haven't received any emails about that. I still have a buyers account with Amazon.

Yes i received same message/email notice on 30th January.
Mine account was closed in December with over 2K earnings hold for.

It was for violation of operating agreement that i still believe was not valid, and they accepted my claims but each time they found something new to keep me closed.

Looking at this i doubt they will ever release this payout from closed account but its progress after their last december email where they said i wont be allowed to re-apply again ever.

Anyone had success with this new application and with old account funds paid out?

At what month was your account banned? Maybe they held your account for a while, but now, you have a chance to reopen and reactivate it.

Just my 2 cents. But I know it sucks to experience this

It was closed sometime before last christmas and these where the earnings for December.

Guess i will first go ahead and re-apply for new one and then if they approve me open case for closed one earnings.. its a long shot.. :/

So I actually went ahead and created a new account with the same email address. Quite surprisingly, I was able to create it without automatically getting banned.

Then I reached out to their associate support chat. And asked them, why was I getting this message and will I be able to get back.

She were confused too. She said she is seeing mixed signals. And said that she needs to consult with the account specialist to tell if my application would be entertained or not.

But unfortunately, a few hours later I got 2 emails from amazon saying that I was not in compliance with their operating system and they have closed my account. I don't know if they were from the account specialist. But the new account was closed again.

Damn man thats brutal from them.. but its typical.. they just shot and ask questions later (if ever)..

You might have to check regarding that old closed account case and repair it first before trying to get back in.

It might not be yours but from someone connected with you... even via Amazon shopping (it might be someone used your shipping address, phone, card..ip.. maybe it was closed shopping account..whatever..its all connected in their databes)

When they closed my acc, i first went to find whats going on with that old closed account.. didnt had clue what they talk about.. since i used several Amazon shopping accs in past for me or fammily... and i almost forgot on it tht had associates.. its been opened in 2010 and they closed it cause of COPPA in 2015 i didnt even had access to email connected there anymore.. so had to sort that back and revert access.. and it was on fammily memeber name as it seems and it had some of my info there (phone, address)..

So i had to go back and clean that,

So to update my story after they said i can apply again.. and i sorted COPPA closed account of family member, last week after i made sales they sent email approving me with new ID, and few hours later with another closure email stating final decision and i dont ever try to apply again and they wont answer my emails message.

This sucks and i believe we should all start at least emailing Jeff Bezos directly pointing out what is happening in that department.

Since he happily shared in public his email for customer and employe complaints , and honest associates should fit in that category too and not treated as criminal terrorists.

Hi, my advice is to register again with a brand new account.

But at the same time, read the terms and conditions regarding associates promotion.

I may not have a full scope of understanding but from what I heard from other marketers, Amazon does not allow you to direct link to their products in your emails to your subscribers.

That is why you need an affiliate website in order to send your traffic and subscribers there first before they decided whether or not to buy any of the products you recommend.
