Default i-stockphoto - thousands of free images

Just found out Stock Photography: Search Royalty Free Images & Photos and stock x.change are charging for their photo archive....

Do you know where I can find a library of royalty free, high quality, images.

Making an absolutely killer product for my soon to be niche dominating blog :-)

Thanks in advance

Slow down, pardner.

Where do you plan to use the photos? In ebooks? If so, you'll need "extended" rights at iStockPhoto or anywhere else.

Look into BigStockPhoto for very flexible licensing terms. You'll save money.

Also, beware of free photo sites. Most don't allow commercial use of images.

Follow these steps and you'll certify yourself lawsuit free. Trust me on this one.

How about using Public Domain images?

Wikipedia:Public domain image resources - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Category:Pictures and images - Wikimedia Commons

You still need to look at the copyright restrictions, but most of the Public Domain images / license, allow for free use, personal or commercial... sample license:

"The copyright holder of this work allows anyone to use it for any purpose including unrestricted redistribution, commercial use, and modification."

You can also check out sxc (dot) hu. However, like Blue says, be sure to read the usage rights.

By stock x.change do you mean stock.xchng?

I can still download photos for free from here. They have a premium section now where you have to pay, it's basically a feed from istockphoto as they bought them out.

But still lots of free photos and often the rights give you commercial usage.

Cheers,
Ben

Also have a look at these sites, the only payment required is an acknowledgment when the image is used:

I am working on a stock image WSO. I have shot plenty of people stock. I am gonna make it cheap and give unlimited rights (accept resell as stock to others). Would this interest you stock buyers?

Sounds good to me.

If you have the right to sell them, then do put up some samples (and image sizes) in the WSO (watermark them if necessary), so that Warriors can evaluate the quality.

It's surprising how many Warriors make offers and have to be asked to provide samples of their work. Examples of one's work should be a 'given' in any offer, IMHO.

Jeff.

Brad, do you have the necessary release forms to prove you have the rights to these stock images? Or the bar codes from a copyright office showing your copyrights? Sorry - but getting nailed for rights violations is not a happy experience. You also need the copyrights to protect yourself, since if you do release plr you have no idea what folks are going to do with the material. Please make sure to discuss the contracts and rights and releases with an attorney before releasing anything - to protect yourself at the very least.
Good luck,
best,
--Jack

Even though iStock charges for photos, they really are one of the best resources on the net. Further, because you purchase on a credit system AND choose web friendly sizes, most images you download wont cost more than a buck.

In most cases, that is well worth it if you want a super professional look to your website or ebook.

When you buy stock from istock they don't provide you a model release for one reason. The privacy and protection of the model.

I do have signed releases but my stock photos would be under license but not for PLR. I don't want people uploading them to stock sites just using them in their own designs and ebooks.

So the question is how do I provide a release without some stalker hunting down my models?

When looking for photos for commercial projects, always check www.morguefile.com first. It has the most liberal usage license anywhere...

Here is the MorgueFile license:
Quote:

You are free:
  • Remix — to adapt the work.
  • Commercial — to use this work for commercial purposes.
  • Without Attribution — to use without attributing the original author.
Under the following conditions:
  • Stand alone basis — You can not sell, license, sublicense, rent, transfer or distribute this image exactly as it is without alteration.
<LI class="license copy">Ownership — You may not claim ownership of this image in its original state.
  • Any of the above conditions can be waived if you get permission from the contributor.
  • Nothing in this license impairs or restricts the author's moral rights.

Brad, a warrior member, Michael Wysmierski used to run wso's for plr stock photos. I have most of his stuff and he never supplied us with the model releases.

He used to run his own stock site at one time. He might be the man to talk to, though I haven't seen him around in an age!

Royalty free doesn't mean they are free.
iStockPhoto provide royalty free images.

Taken from Wikipedia:
"Royalty Free refers to a type of contract between two entities (the licensor and licensee),
that is employed when licensing the rights to use content, such as photographs. The term
Royalty Free means that once the content is licensed under a set of guidelines, the licensee
is normally free to use it in perpetuity without paying additional royalty charges."

Hi,

I've tried for years to get a professional Photog friend of mine to do this.

To answer your question. Yes.

I think we're mis-communicating a bit. To answer your direct question I'd put some sort of text on your site or license indicating you have the necessary release forms and they are accessible as required.

If you're using stock photos the last thing you want is someone to show up and claim you're infringing on them or using their images without their permission, so I'd be looking to make sure the supplier has the permissions. I don't need them in my hand, but need to be able to show someone they are available. Take a look at the other stock photo sites for examples of what they provide in their licensing agreements. The final authority would of course be an intellectual property lawyer.

Also for further information with iStock - I'm making some photo books with my son as both a project and to help his reading. iStock confirmed to me I can use the images in ebooks/print books etc up to 50,000 copies with the base payment (credits). If the number of issues increases I would have to pay the additional license fees based on numbers released.

HTH,
best,
--Jack

ps - I too would be interested as well, for use in print and online projects.

"Royalty Free" does NOT mean the photos are free. It just means that, under certain terms as outlined on each site, you pay a one-time fee to use the photos.

If you buy in bulk then check out Stock Photography: Download Free Stock Photos & Royalty Free Images

Pay monthly and for their highest package at $128.99 and get 300 credits. That's a better deal then istockphoto. I do like the photos at istockphoto better however so I buy from both sites.
