HTML vs Text emails Split Test

Hello warrior,

Has anyone split test the effectiveness of HTML vs Text email blasts? I notice more and more "gurus" going the HTML route so I guess they must have split tested this thing out?

TIA!

Which gurus are you talking about? Text emails are better since not all people have email clients that can read html. And html emails are annoying. I almost always throw them away without reading them.

I personally prefer html emails...text it too boring for me! We also use html emails in our business with a little "can't view this email, view it in your browser" and we have no complaints!

But, that's what works for us. You need to test and see what YOUR subscribers want!

    1) You are you and they are them. Do you have their knowledge, do you have their tools, etc, etc, etc, and finally do you have the same subscribers?

    2) From more perspectives (incl. spam filters issue), it is more difficult to send proper HTML emails. If you want to take into consideration this way, first you need to learn how to properly do it.

    3) When your subscribers opt in, let them decide what they want to receive. Then segment your list and send HTML emails to people who want HTML emails and text emails to the people who want text emails. Too much work? Then forget about HTML emails

Fantastic... but that's not what I asked. I was wondering whether anyone has split-tested it and has some hardcore numbers. We can make assumptions all day long, but without the hardcore data it's all pointless.

Anyone's done any split test on this regard?

      Thanks!

Well, it seems that you didn't get the point of my previous reply (paragraph 1), or did you?

It's true that someone can make assumptions all day long but without data it's all pointless.

However, it is also true that other people's data (tests) are pointless too (for you).

I can show you such results but ... do you have the same subscribers? Are you in the same niche? Do you publish the same type of content? Do you have similar skills like me? Are we the same person?

Do your own tests on YOUR data! (or keep waiting for someone to provide you with data that are useless for a third party other than her/him) Only such tests are relevant to you
