DNS point vs FORWARDING

Hi All and thankyou for responding to my query about DNS point vs. Domain Transfer...........

What I should have added is "What about Forwarding"

Is it true to say FORWARDING is perhaps a less efficient way of effectively doing the same thing as a DNS point ??

and FORWARDING does not affect Page Rank or any other issues ??

So, to then take it another step further, Could I FORWARD my Domain to a simple 1 or 2 page introduction page that might be hosted for free on my ISP and then REDIRECT or FORWARD to another site (which may be hosted elsewhere). I understand that this may be a fraction slower, but are there any other issues ??

What about Page Rank in this REDIRECT scenario above.

many thanks for your help

regards Graham

Hi All and thankyou for responding to my query about DNS point vs. Domain Transfer......
    Hi Graham,

I don't see any earlier posts.

I don't quite understand what you are asking, but basically, you must have a domain name pointed to your (web hosting) server. Otherwise, no one can access your domain and see your website.

I also fail to understand why you would want to send visitors to a free hosted page and then re-direct them elsewhere. Why not send them to your page of choice directly?

You can forward a different domain (or domains) to your website, but when someone types in the name of the forwarded domain, they will be taken to your primary website, as mentioned in the second paragraph above.

If you need to host more than one domain, then purchase hosting that allows this. You can then put up websites on the host server and each one will be accessed when the individual domain name (that you associate with the particular website) is typed into a browser.

Re-direct is a different thing altogether. It is usually used to disguise affiliate links in a url link, but that's an entirely different subject. So I won't go into it.

    Regards,

    Jeff Henshaw.
