Update site before sale or leave it as is?

I have a site in the fishing niche. I think the domain name is a strong one and I'm going to sell it, as to be honest I just threw up a wordpress site with some pretty basic plr material and set it up as an auto blog. This was back in 2009, so it has a lot (2,000 plus) of auto generated posts by now.

The site's domain would lend itself ideally to a fishing 'community' site with a forum and other social aspects. I could put together a framework of this sort of site in a few hours, using Joomla. The problem with this would be that there would be no content, although it would be very easy for someone with an interest in this niche to populate it. Do you think it would be more likely to get a higher price if I did this rather than just putting it up for sale as is?

This will be my first site / domain sale so any comments are welcome.

Thanks,

Mike.

Is it monetized? if so, how?
    What is current monthly income.
What are your main traffic sources and how much do you generate.

All these things will come into play for determining a price.

    It depends.

If the domain is Premium, then sell only the domain itself. If you have unique content then i would sell it as is. If the content is self generated (not unique, scrapped) then it will not provide value and probably will penalize in terms of SEO.

Based on that adapt it the best way you can in order to make a sale.
Typically potential buyers only care about: Traffic and proof of earnings.

So adding content if it does not make anything i believe maybe will not be the best move.

There are places where you can buy 100,000 plr niche articles for less than $10. You can "bulk" upload those to a blog quite easily.

Other than your domain name, I don't see what value you are sitting on. The fact that your blog is 8 years old means relatively nothing if it is not generating human traffic and consistent income.

I would say . . . sell the site without further work for whatever you can get and then move on to building a real business that has value for the audience.

If you've been using a scraper to add content for eight years, I'd go through and delete any off topic, sketchy, spammy or otherwise negative posts.

I haven't seen an autoblogger yet that didn't need manual moderation, and cleaning out the crap before sale will let you honestly say that you've kept up to date on Google algo updates.

Otherwise, let the new owner do the remodel.

It depends, are you planning on making the money from the domain or the site( and domain)?

If it's just the domain then don't worry about it. If it's the whole site, then yes you should have much more content.

Thanks for your replies. I don't think the current site content has any value so I'm going to sell it as just the domain. Sorry for the late reply, it's been a very busy week.
