Amazon is not the only game in town

First off, let me be clear that I love the Amazon affiliate program.

I've made a full time income from them going on 7 years now.

But in recent months they have become quite strict and hard on affiliates.

Closing people's accounts left and right with no regard to ruining their businesses.

If that happened to you or if you want to add additional revenue to your sites then I suggest you have a look at CJ.com and Shareasale.com

There are literally thousands of Physical products you can promote as an affiliate.

Believe it or not, some of them convert better than Amazon and offer better commissions as well.

Let me show you a screenshot from my Shareasale account so far this month.

You can see that one of the websites are giving me just over $2 in return for every click I send to them.

That's a solid epc in anyone's book.

So if Amazon kicked you to the curb. There are plenty other affiliate programs that would love your business.

Cheers

Jan

Nice one! I agree, Amazon is not the only game in town.

We're integrated with ShareASale and CJ as well as Rakuten, Commission Factory etc.

All of the above have returned handsome earnings.

Do you have specific advice around verticals are working/converting well on each network?

    Here's my list:

    # ShareASale
    • Apparel
    • Sporting Goods
    • Sporting Merchandise (NFL, NHL etc)

    # Conversant (CJ)
    • VPNs
    • Travel
    • Stationary

Yep, good to let others who live and die by the Amazon sword know there are other options out there

I have amassed a fortune promoting Amazon as an affiliate over the years, and so far there has been no indication of any downturn.

However, it is important to understand that Amazon has always been and will always be a fierce rival against its own affiliates and vendors.

They have a very aggressive internal sales team which relentlessly pursues the buyers that so many affiliates send to them so generously without bothering to followup.

Those affiliates who do understand the competitive and adversarial nature of Amazon against them have generally been quite successful by establishing insular marketing promotions to their own customer lists.

How will it affect your business if your commissions get cut to say 3% from the current 8.5?

Or if you make a silly mistake that violates some part of their TOS and they shut you down without giving you the chance to correct the error.

That's the sort of stuff I see happening with them lately and it does not look good for affs in the long term I think.

Have a read through this thread.

I agree with you, but Amazon is still the best whore in town. So far, she's still pulling in some of the best conversions and upsells that I've not seen anywhere else.

Were you promoting amazon via review sites or some other content format?

I wonder if there's a substantial difference in CONVERSION RATES based on sales format (review versus 'featured product' or upsell)

I have always used the product review format.

I've always promoted Amazon products as recommendations for specific applications to my niche lists, offline publications, direct mail, seminars, and telemarketing. It takes multiple exposures to optimize conversion rates.

(PS: Amazon does very much the same thing to all of your customers.)

Good thread. I could say much the same about AdSense - it was my biggest revenue source online, now it's not.

But seriously, take a look at AliExpress. I've started buying Chinese stuff on there and I'm also trying to get some affiliate sites off the ground.

    Great thread!

    Hi jan roos,

Do you use the product review format to promote CJ, Sharesale? or other ways?

    Do you promote shoes, handbags?

    Thank you!

      Yes I do product reviews.

At the bottom of the reviews I have a comparison table that displays live prices from CJ, Amazon, Shareasale etc.

      Hope that helps.

I like paid traffic from Adwords and Adcenter.

      Very targeted and it converts.

      Cheers

I like to syphon traffic from other people who already have the demographics which I'm targeting.

This is faster, better and cheaper than any other traffic generation strategy I've seen for massive conversions - bar none.
