Making money via a blog... easy?

Obviously.... *not*.

However, PlanetOfSuccess wrote their take on how to start a blog over at

How to Start a Successful Blog and Make $$$ | Planet of Success

With close to 100K readers they have a hugely impressive lineup.

What's the best take away?

The 5 Year Rule:
"...I believe it was Steve Pavlina, one of the most popular personal development bloggers, who said that you should only start blogging if youre willing to do it for the next five years. I think this is a good rule of thumb. If you are willing to invest five years of your life into this project, you should absolutely go for it. At the same time, the time span of five years gives you a rough estimate of how much work and dedication is required to grow your blog continuously.

This, however, does not mean that you have to work full-time on your blog for the entire five years. Instead, it is simply an encouragement not to give up when confronted with initial difficulties. Similarly, it is a reminder that it probably isnt the best idea to start blogging for a couple of months, only to give up when youre seeing no results...."
Like everything worthwhile....

It takes *time* to grow your success.

Enjoy!

    I concur.

I made my first personal website 12 or 13 years ago and it took a long time for it to become profitable.. years in fact.

Thankfully I wasn't bothered about making money from it because it was a passion / hobby site, but dedication is needed no matter what you're doing.

A lot of people don't realise.. especially around here, is that no matter what you're doing.. blogging.. affiliate marketing.. whatever 'system' you're using.. it's actually a business.. and businesses have ups and downs..

    And it requires dedication.

I think too many people start off with bad expectations and want to "get rich quick", the best things are typically the ones that you put time into..

5 years is a long time.
6 months to 1 year is enough to make your blog successful.

For sure blogging can bring in some money. But like Michael said being passionate about your subject will keep you dedicated and grinding. It will take time and if you get excited about it you'll stick with it.

Bloggers who sale the Blogging "dream" are the main ones who have been the perpetrators of the "easy money blogging " mantra, imo.

They make it look so easy. And the thing is they are only successful by selling the "dream" not blogging like for instance Pat Flynn who has had success with blogging about food trucks.

Ryan B is one of the few on here who is very legit in selling the "dream". But he has a lot of good common sense stuff. Stuff that will help others actually make money with a blog .

He may be one of the exceptions out there

When I started I was disappointed, seems liked nothing is gonna work. Then I had patience and finally became successful.

    Hi Barbling:

Thanks for sharing again. Another good post. It makes good sense to develop the 5 year plan and stick with it. As you know consistency can and does deliver results.

A good strategy, sound execution, and consistent action each day can work wonders.

    Thanks again,

    Doable, but not easy.

You'll need to learn how to write for the Internet. One of the best ways to learn is to take a copywriting course. Why a copywriting course? Because all of the elements of copy are in blog posts. Headlines, subheads, body, calls to action, they are all there,

It is a little different because you are not trying to openly sell a product or service. Rather,, you are giving away great information for free. The higher quality the information, the more recognition you'll receive. The more recognition, the more traffic. With lots of traffic you can start monetizing your blog.

It takes awhile, so be patient. It is not uncommon to blog hard core for 24 months before seeing a spike in traffic.

I hope this helps your my friend!

If you are doing blogging to make money online you will have to think long term.
Don't expect to make money in the short term, most person's use it mainly to build an email list over time that they can promote there products over and over again.

Yes, blogging is still profitable. I think the main distinction people have to make nowadays is instead of relying on income from ads (aka Adsense) you need to put your primary focus on capturing the lead.

When you build a nice list from your blog you can ramp up your income.

    Hi Barb,

It gets easier and easier when:

    * you give 99% of your energy to having fun and creating and making friends....and....
    * when you address fears about losing money

Most bloggers cling to a firm belief in scarcity. So they hop online with the dominant intent to make money through their blog. Meaning their getting energy overrules their giving energy, and since your giving energy must dominate your getting energy to make money, the 5 year rule holds true for most bloggers.

Even amazingly prosperity conscious minded Steve Pavlina had plenty of mental blocks to money to overcome before he made a bunch of dough through his blog. I recall him taking the energetic attitude that all the money and traffic was just extra. He felt whole and complete by simply having fun writing posts and needed nothing to fill a void, or, to address any feeling of scarcity. But it took him a minute to clear out mental blocks to dough, to take that whole and complete attitude,as it does for most of us.

I have multiple income streams but really, almost all of my energy is devoted to having fun creating content, having fun helping folks and blogging with love, and I let the Universe handle the rest.

    Cool post

    Signing off from Doha, Qatar.

If you think you're going to make quick cash with blogging, rethink your efforts. Then again, if all the pieces fit, and if you can come up with an instant hit subject, with a phenomenal, youtube sensation video then you can get great traffic. I would not rule out the possibility of earning lots of money with a such blog. In the majority of the cases its just wont happen with in a fortnight. A few months? maybe not either. Just be prepared to go it the long haul.

Making money with blog is not easy, you must give you full time on it. and be aware you cannot make money instantly with it, it take years of hard work. But if you are determined about it. Go for it! and spend you time creating article or outsource it.
