Opt In Rate on my sqeeze pages suddenly plummeted

Hi Folks,
my setup - very simple funnel. Squeeze page with exit pop, after sign up a thank you page with several links

Split testing set up on the squeeze page

ClickMagick for tracking

Some days ago I suddenly had a dramatic drop in opt-in rates on two funnels.
Went down from an average of 40% to 1% and 2 % respectively.

I checked everything, the sites were all up - I use uptime robot to monitor downtimes - 100% uptime since end of Jan
I checked the stats for the opt-in forms in aweber itself to make sure it wasn't just the pixel that didn't fire.
I also checked the stats for the exit pop. While it didn't show as many hits as it should it fired for at least 75% of the page visitors - showing that the page must have loaded at least as far as the code for the pop.

It seems that for some reason people simply decided to not opt in anymore after about 40% of them had decided to opt in for a year or so very consistently

Has anyone experienced that too? What could have happened? And ideas would be helpful because then I could set up tests to prove or disprove

What would you do about it now in that situation? Wait if it gets better? Discard the pages at once and build new funnels from scratch?

If it has actually happened to you, what did you do?
thank you

Where is the traffic coming from? I had this happen with FB ads for certain niches. FB simply ran out of fresh eyeballs for my ads.

This was my thought as well.

Using the same solo ad sellers seems like it would eventually expose you to their lists multiple times, and they simply bounce when they recognize the offer or domain. Especially if you're trying to build lists of opportunity seekers to sell on using your own solos.

Have you tried experimenting with new ad sources?

I am using solo ads, lots of different sellers.
Yes it could be that, though in ClickMagick I can view data on individual IP addresses - if they have been exposed to my squeeze pages before or even opted in to one of them in the past I can see that data. Though I don't know how far back.
Additionally, repeat clicks are redirected to different funnels. Meaning if the same IP address is sent to my squeeze page and ClickMagick "remembers" this lead has been here before they get redirected to the front end f a different funnel as per my settings.
This doesn't really work all that well, as I can see, but sometimes it does.

Greetings, you mentioned split testing. Has the decreased opt-in rate happened to both sites or just one of the two? Also, how long have you been running traffic to your site? Sometimes just changing an image or the basic layout will suddenly increase opt-ins. This happened to me and when I made a few minor changes, my opt-in rate increased. Sometimes if a website has been active for a long period of time without any changes or updates, it can become "stale" and the popularity can begin to decline. Hopefully this will give you some ideas on deciphering the decrease in your site.

    that's very odd to go from 40% to 1-2% .. I wouldn't be surprised if it was 20% ... but 1-2%?

I wouldn't be surprised with 20% either. dcbeckster now you mention it, yes - the opt ins dropped for both split tested pages which makes it even stranger come to think of it.

There is either something wrong with the traffic source, ClickMagick, or your opt-in form (sometimes the AR companies do have problems which could render opt-in forms inoperable for a period of time).

It's not possible for your opt-in rate to drop off from over 40% to 1% unless you were sent untargeted traffic or ClickMagick recorded the clicks but they got redirected elsewhere.

It's definitely not your squeeze pages.

Did you try buying from a new seller maybe?

I have been doing this a long time and if you have something that is a proven winner... offer, funnel. squeeze page, etc... and the response suddenly plummets, it is usually something to do with the traffic or a technical problem.

Thank you all for your answers! I didn't know the opt in form could be broken ... maybe it was an aweber issue. As I had different sellers sending to me at that time, and the stats show significant drop of opt-in from all of them there's either this or the tracking.
I only just learned that ClickMagick has updated from http links to https links - there could have been some rediret issues there.

Also with SSL sometimes the certificates will have expired and you don't get notification.

It's only when you start digging or notice issues like you mention that you find out.

      Best regards,

It could be a couple of different things. First off, your traffic provider could now be sending you junk traffic since they have you as a repeated buyer and you wouldn't suspect that. It could also be that your landing page simply wasn't working at the time when traffic was being sent which has happened to me before (load time was really long).

But the fact that it went from 40 all the way down to 1 or 2% is pretty crazy.

Sounds like you might have found your answer. Unless you have a security cert installed, you're either going to get a 404 error or (at least in Chrome) a warning message about a bum security cert.

If you have cPanel, check your panel. Most of them have a one-click install for a free cert. Maybe someone else remembers the name. I set it up and forgot about it.

Banner Blindness reared its ugly head back in the 90's, but this puppy is still with us. People will start to tune you out after repeated exposure. OK, so it is time to change your game. Are you using the custom domain feature with ClickMagick?

If you are, they have recently put out an article about one of the ways you can set it up that is not working that great anymore as of January 31st.

Apparently, they list three ways for you to set up a custom domain for your tracking links, but the first two are not that reliable. I'm not sure why they just don't list the one that works all the time, but anyway, here's a link to the article:

    https://www.clickmagick.com/user/faqs.cgi?faq=184

That could have been the problem. In fact, if you have a custom domain for your tracking links, I bet that was the problem.

For a drop like that something definitely broke. If you want to send a PM of the site I'd be happy to have a quick look to see if the problem is something obvious.

Thank you for all your replies and help. I figured it out - it was an aweber form issue ... Seems like it was not working for a couple of days. Still don't know why but all is back to normal now
