Marketing Kindle Books

I've not been around for a couple of months because I have been working away on a handful of ebooks. I have already launched 4 on Amazon and one is doing better than expected (it is the only one where I have made an effort to promote it).

The trouble is all my mailing lists etc that I used to promote the book with are all UK based, so, all of the reviews I have gained are from the UK and dont show up on the Amazon.com site, so sales to the US have been very slow

Does anyone have any sites, blogs, vlogs or podcast I should be using as resources?

    You could try using the "editorial reviews" and "author comments" sections of the page to copy/paste US reviews. Something like "here's what UK readers are saying..."

    Thanks John - I like that idea, it should help with the conversion process once they are on the product page.

    The importance behind reviews on the .com site is that it moves you up the search results (i.e. getting them to the product page) - which is the main thing I'm after.

      It may also help people write their own reviews. Kind of like a bartender 'salting' his tip jar with some folding money to encourage more of the same.

    Take a look at bookmarketingtools.com. (not a link)

    They offer a paid review service.
    They provide several other services also related to authors and specifically Indie authors.
    I think it's about $25 to get honest reviews of your book.

    Take a look at their website and see if it is something that interests you. I believe their list of reviewers are from around the world. They are a US based company, so most of their reviewers may be in the US.

    You could ask them where the majority of their reviewers are from before commiting if you decide to go that route.

    I haven't used their service yet, but I have 2 kindle books that I'm considering using them to get reviews.

    You can also promote your books on FB groups formed for free book releases

    Look for REAL groups populated by readers interested in your niche/genre. There are quite a number of them.

    Steer clear of groups set up by authors for "I review you, you review me" shenanigans. Amazon's cracking down on those arrangements.

    UnlimitedOptions - I'm a bit nervous of paid for reviews because of the risks of getting in to trouble with Amazon. I appreciate the risks are low but I know it is something that Amazon really dont like. I would have to some really trusted reviews of their services before dipping my toe in the water on that front. If I can come up with a throw away $0.99 style book I'm not bothered about I could try an experiment in different amazon account.

    WriteAway - Getting mixed results on the FB groups front, but I think it is just a case of getting in to the right groups. A book on Excel is never going to do well in a FB group who targets romantic novels (for example).

    I have also been experimenting with Twitter hashtags and that seems to be generating some results but it is impossible to tell what sort of impact it is having. Same goes with Reddit.
