Is Podcasting Dead?

Hi Warriors,

I have been out of the online marketing loop for a little while, and am curious if Podcasting is dead?

Does anyone use it anymore at all? Is it still popular?

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

    It is not dead yet. I have seen many pro bloggers like Darren Rowse, Pat Flyn are doing podcast and get some good response from it.

    Just because there is no WSO about a certain topic does not automatically mean it's "dead"....

    Podcasting has probably seen it's biggest growth in the past year and a half....

    I don't think its dead. I know using it is not easy but some people use it with proper strategies and it works for them !

    Nope not really dead.

    But other people that are aiming right now is Instagram videos / Facebook Live / Snapchat.
    To record everything and market easy with the # function it can go viral.

    It is not dead for sure. Many marketers and bloggers are using it to drive traffic and build authority.

    You have to give it a try if you can build a following. Nothing is impossible if you put effort and take action. Thanks :-)

    I think far from it. The user base is growing and there is a huge opening in the marketing niche imo.

    Podcast listening grew 23% from 2015 to 2016 and the audience is very active.

    I think podcasting has been widely underestimated as a marketing tools because it's such a different medium. People digest podcasts differently from let's say video on youtube. They are listening in the gym, in the car, even at work. It's a more mobile device medium. Also podcast users are estimated to be a highly affluent demographic = buyers.

    I actually started a podcast two weeks ago because I think it's a great method of getting free traffic to your website.

    More alive than ever but it has a higher cost of entry (equipment, quality recording/editing, etc) vs other mediums. I agree that podcast listeners are buyers and that's based off my own experience as a listener. When James Altucher or someone who I listen to for hours every week recommends something, without fail, I will at least look into it.

    The one thing that kills a good podcast, and I understand the necessity to monetize, is the intro ads like on TFerriss' for 5 minutes. I hate having to spam the 15sec fast forward button every episode, just my .02.

    There are far too many abandoned podcasts littering iTunes just take a look at how many have 15-20 episodes under their belts only to suffer from Pod Fade. If you feel like walking away from your show because you feel like youre just talking to yourself, take heed.
    This is a complicated issue so let's start at the beginning. What is a podcast? I think there's a very common misunderstanding that a podcast is an audio or video show that you download to your computer or other device to play. It's not. You see there are two ways you can use the word podcast, it's either a noun or a verb. For example, Movies You Should See is a podcast. An episode of Movies You Should See is a podcast, and we podcast a show called Movies You Should See. Before we start declaring it as dead I think we need to be really clear what we're talking about. It's my own opinion that the correct use of the word is the verb. I podcast, you podcast, he/she podcasts etc.

    Well, let me answer that by asking is snail mail via the US mail dead ? Of course not. Has it seen it's better days ? Probably. But still unlimited potential for those who do it right !

    I think Podcasting is still wonderfully profitable for those who do it right

    I think it's far from dead, my wife listens to them daily. If anything, as the years go by, as with many new methods to market and get a message out, those that are experts start rising to the top through constant validation that they are knowledgeable in their niche, which leads to people trusting those experts and growing their base. Those that are copycats start to die off quickly, so you get a consolidation and a bigger separation gap between those that know and those that don't, but think they do. If you know what you are doing in a specialized niche market, and can be an effective communicator in this medium, there are still opportunities to do well with podcasts.

    Podcasting is still a great way to grow/build your business. Just like list building, you have to slowly grow your listeners over time.

    are you kidding? All I listen to is podcast. TV hasn't been turned on in months. I have about 15 that I follow.

    It's gotten much easier to make money off Podcasts

    The key is, as always, to build an AUDIENCE

    2016 politics has been a BOON to almost all podcast niches

    Hey Randall, This info may help. A dude called Cliff J. Ravenscraft is at the top of the Podcast stuff over at his site podcast answer man dot com and has what is trending ,training etc.
    IThe Top Dudes use places like libsyn dot com where you can host and distribute your podcasts to iTunes and other places. It starts a fiver a month so can't beat that.
