How To Create Content For Your Website (For Beginners)?

In this post we're gonna talk about how to write content for your website and this post is especially for beginners who've never produced content before.

I'm not gonna give you any technical information about what to write or how to write etc. instead we're going to discuss the real factors that stop people from creating great content and we'll try to eliminate them.

I really don't think that the reason most newbies fail or give up creating content is because they lack resources or their niche is boring etc. I think the real reasons are much deeper.

Let's get started.

1: Value

The most important thing to keep in mind is that your content needs to be valuable. Whatever you produce whether it's video, article, info-graphic, podcast etc. you need to make sure that it's giving some sort of value to the viewers.

Now I understand that it's going to be hard for you in the beginning to produce high quality content especially if you don't have much knowledge about your subject but it's still not a valid reason to stop producing content or not even trying.

One of the biggest reasons that I think people end up producing shitty content is because they approach with the mindset of gaining not giving. Most of the people write to impress search engine or social media not readers.

They ask themselves questions like:

1: How can I get higher ranking in Google? or
2: How can I get more shares? Etc.

But if you wanna create good content the right questions to ask is, What can I give?, How can I help? etc.

All the popular websites and top bloggers have this one thing in common, their content highly valuable. In fact, that's the reason why you consume their content.

My point is, the first thing you need to keep in mind while creating content is that you're creating it for other humans not for search engine or social media. And as a matter of fact, if you just focus on producing great content then getting high search engine rank and social share is inevitable.

2: Perfection

The second thing is that most of the newbies try to make their post perfect the first time. They dwell upon each sentence and try to avoid any mistake. Although, having high standards is a good thing but perfection always stops people to even get started.

If you're just starting out, you're going to make mistakes. Period. There's no way in hell that you create an outstanding piece of content the first time you sit down and begin to write.

All your favorite bloggers whose content you consume everyday have created some really shitty posts in their past and chances are you've never even read their first few posts. Have you?

What I want you to know is this...

Don't try to be perfect. Allow yourself to make mistakes. Write some shitty posts. Don't worry about criticism (no one is gonna read your first few posts anyways!).

What really happens when people try to make everything perfect is that always have a doubt about what they've written or they over think what they should write. This overthinking prevents them to even getting started. If you're a newbie trying to produce content I'm pretty sure you can relate to it.

If you just focus on giving value and write down whatever you feel is helpful for your readers while allowing yourself to make mistakes, (even if no one really likes your post) you're gonna get better overtime.

Practice will make you better and better. The more you write, the more you're gonna improve. But if you dwell about creating everything flawless the first time then you'll probably never even get started.

3: Giving Up

The third problem is giving up creating content after failing few times. And by failing I mean, no one is reading your content or is taking the action you want them to take.

First, newbies spend weeks creating one article (because they aim for perfection) and then, when they finally create and publish it, no one gives a shit. No one reads it, or shares it or it might get some negative comments too.

This is disappointing for sure. Especially when you've spend days or even weeks creating something you think is going to be a masterpiece.

Now, please understand that failure is a part of the process. You will fail. Everyone does. Your biggest mentors have failed in their past and if you don't believe me look at Gary Vanerchuk's Video "Overnight Success" he tells how he continuously created videos while no one was even watching for the first 18 months.

So the third tip is, don't stop producing content after your first few unsuccessful attempts. Keep on creating, focus on giving as much value as you can and eventually, your content will get better and better overtime.

It's going to be easy for you to deal with failure if you approach with mindset of learning not perfection. And it really is the reality, you really are learning. Your first post failed, so what, at least the next post you create now is going to be better.

Focus on giving value, write content for the readers not for Google or social media.
Don't aim for perfection, let yourself make mistakes, permit yourself to create some of the worst posts of your life. This is how you will improve.
Don't give up because your first few posts failed. They were meant to fail. Failure is a part of the process.
