I have a question about setting things up

I am going to start building a list, drive traffic to an opt in page with a free offer. I am also planning a blog. I don't want them to be able to access the blog unless they opt in.
Also if someone just happens to stumble upon my site from the web I would like them to learn what the site is about but not be able to access anything else unless they opt in. If they hit my opt in page they will be able to pick out the site address from the address bar and be able to access the info without opting in. I don't want that.
I will use IM for an example here. I was also thinking of a newsletter only but what if they join and the first week is all about affiliate marketing and they don't want to know about that, they want to know about email marketing, seo or traffic generation which would be further along in the series and they don't want to wait. With the blog they would be able to access any of the information whenever they want but no matter what they still have to opt in.
So if I go with a blog would I need some kind of membership plug in? If so what? Preferably low cost for now.

Easy, lock-down the website content by making it password protected, and set up your auto-responder to email those that opted in the site password.

Thanks for your reply! Also just thinking about a free membership site and you have to opt in to get into the site.

This philosophy is great for your competitors. I know that if the only way I could access a "Blog" was to pay, then I would just hit google and find another source for my information

I am not making this a pay/membership site i just want them to have to opt into my list before they get access to it. Guess I didn't make that clear. No paid membership.

When I said "Pay" I did not mean monetarily. I meant pay with an email address.

A better approach for you might be the use of "Content Add-ons" Just google it there is plenty of free info available on the subject

I think everyone associates blogs as being free. I've been to blogs where they try and force you to opt-in to see a full article. When that happens, I just leave.

I think you would do far better to simply create a membership site and you have to sign up / opt-in to gain access to it. At least with a membership site, I think there is more or less an implied assumption that the info is of greater value.
