Default Help A Newbie Out Please With A Place To Get A Domain

I'm researching the web for a place to get my first Domain and I'm not sure which is best. I have read both good and bad reviews on GoDaddy.com. If anyone could give me some advice on where the best place to get a domain name and web hosting, it would really help me out.

Thanks

I use namecheap and never had any problem. I started with 007names cos they were the only company that accept Nigeria issued credit and debit cards but their customer support sucks.

Try namecheap.com. You can get a dot com domain name for $8.81 with them if you search for coupons.

Godaddy is the best place to get a domain name but not so for web hosting. It's been said on here a number times that you should not get both from the same place. If this is your first domain then it will only cost $1.99+tax.

Had registered about 7 domains from namecheap too. It's user interface is much more friendlier and easier on the eye than GoDaddy in my humble opinion.

I would say use Namecheap over Godaddy for one reason. Namecheap has the option to hide your personal information from the world. Their are sites were you can look up who owns a site with all of you info such as name, address and contact info. This can be used against you if say for instants you have a affiliate who is spaming. Google has been known to close accounts and charge large amounts of money to get the account restarted. Plus why have your info out there for the world to see. On the plus side for Godaddy it is easier to use than Namecheap, not saying Namecheap is hard it just takes some getting use to. As far as hosting Hostgator is the only hosting company I would use because their system and customer service are excellent. Plus they are available 24/7. Hope this helps

The current coupon code for NameCheap is DREAMTIME. I have domains with them and with GoDaddy. No problems with either one.

I googled current coupon codes for GoDaddy and found this link:
Live Godaddy Promo Codes / Coupons: Live Codes--Confirmed 17 September 2009--

For hosting I use HostGator - for now I have the baby croc plan. Can host an unlimited number of sites. Very easy to install WordPress via Fantastico. I believe the current promo code FREEMONTH will get you the 1st mo. of the baby croc plan for 1 penny.

Ditto on namecheap. I exclusively use them now. When I first started i bought from GoDaddy and to say that they were very very annoying would be an understatement.

As for hosting, I would also put bluehost out there. I have had nothing but good experiences with them.

I use Godaddy and Namecheap for domains.
Steer clear of Godaddy for hosting

I use both Hostgator and Hostmonster for hosting and like them both.

I use Name.com. They are awesome.

For web hosting, your best bet would be Hostgator. Use the coupon code 'wordpress'!

Until this week, I had made the mistake of purchasing domains through my host, Justhost at £9.99($16 or so) per year when I could have been purchasing through namecheap for less than $10 AND getting free domain privacy At least I only made this mistake with 3 domains, it could have been worse I guess. For hosting I have had no problems with Justhost and their customer service is excellent

If you search the internet, you will find horror stories about all the registrars which exist today.
I use Godaddy and Moniker for my domains and have faced no problems with them so far. Godaddy's site was hacked last year but they locked all the affected accounts and reactivated them after the affected members called support and gave them the pin number. (My account information was compromised as well).

Godaddy has 2 codes which could be of use to you.
199buycom and 299buycom, a one time coupon for every account. Allows you to buy a .com for $1.99 and $2.99 respectively.

i use namecheap like a lot of people here its far more easy to transfer the domain to hostgator for hosting then godaddys service, i have some on go daddy also but prefer name cheap because of the fact you can transfer some money from paypal securly to purchase the domain name and have a reminder to stay in the account so its no longer needed to pull the credit card out plus there are no oto offers like godaddy does with hosting and smartspace

here my 2 cents worth

Remember, there's 2 things we're talking about here. Registering the domain name (example.com) and then finding a place to host your website (the hosting company).

For domain registration:
  • GoDaddy.com if you are new to this.
  • Namecheap.com once you understand some of the terminology as their interface isn't as good, but they are fast, great response times, great support and have awesome 'batch' editing capabilities. And they won't spam you. Sign up with GoDaddy and you'll see what I mean.. they will be trying to consistently sell you other services which you don't need or spam you with their crap newsletter. BTW, Namecheap does have a great help/tutorial section and their live chat will handle most changes for you.
For website hosting:
  • Hands down Hostgator for shared service right now. They oversell like crazy but it's ok because the majority of people that host there use an absolute fraction of their account capacity. Just be warned that if your site gets DiGGed or gets heavy traffic, they are very strict in pushing you off to a semi-dedicated or dedicated server at which point Hostgator is no longer your best option. You won't have to worry about that for a long while I'd imagine but when it happens you can remember this post.

Huh? You're talking about the private registration feature, that all hosts, including GoDaddy offer. The only difference is Namecheap gives you 1 free year of their whois protection while GoDaddy charges some nominal amount for it. After the 1st year at Namecheap, you will have to pay for that service (which I do on the domains where I don't need my info out there).

Definitely go with namecheap or godaddy. They are very easy to use. If you go with namecheap make sure you use a good webhosting company like hostgator.

There is nothing special about buying domain names from particular domain registrar except for the price point. They are all the same. Its when hosting comes in when you have to compare the quality and availability and support of hosting packages. All domain registrations are just the same - I dont think anyone would need support for registering domain names, it is a one-time one-off affair that is done completed in 30 minutes flat.

id pick namecheap over godaddy, just because if you have godaddy and affiliate spammers you can have your domain locked and have to pay a tun of money to get it back. namecheap keeps you privet with whois.
