The biggest problem with the standard Twitter web application is that you have to keep an eagle eye on your replies and Direct Messages as you only see the main Tweetstream on the screen.

It is also limited in that it only displays about the last 20 tweets, so if you want to see older ones, you have to keep going back pages. So what to do?

Download Tweetdeck from TweetDeck The first thing you will probably notice is that you will need to change the settings as the default is white text on a black screen. Makes it hard to read I've found, but each to their own.

Tweetdeck is brilliant in that it displays the Tweetstream, your replies and your direct messages all on the one screen. The message columns allow for 500 tweets as a default, so scrolling down allows you to go back a fair way or search for tweets you may want to refer back to.

The screen has a continuous right hand scroll, so you can set up different groups and their tweets will appear in that column. You might have a group called best friends and another for gardeners for instance. That way you don't miss important tweets from people who are more important to you than others.

Tweetdeck is probably the most widely used application for Twitter and I would highly recommend it to you. It allows you to reply, sent direct message and retweet by only click a tab.

I really recommend a Twitter client called DestroyTwitter. It's very similar to Tweetdeck in some ways but one of the reasons I enjoy it the most is how sleek and simple it is, as well as how it consumes far less resources. There's a bunch of other cool stuff it has too.

Top Twitter Tips-

-To look less like a spammer/scammer or a "bot"..make sure you fill out your Bio!

-Be sure to fill out your Bio with keyword rich terms in your niche

-Use your main keywords at the beginning of your tweets!

-Do NOT "spam mention" people, you will get banned.

-Show your appreciation when a tweeter Retweets your stuff! Retweet something of thiers (with value 2 ur followers of course)

-Answer Questions from other tweeters, Engage and add Value!

I believe to use Twitter, it boils down to these steps:
1. Setup a credible account with all bio and info filled up
2. Follow the target market by using the search function at Twitter or wefollow.com by following industry icons in your niche
3. Engage into conversation with them genuinely
4. Twit useful information that is not commercial
5. For every 7 tweets, make sure the last one to be your affiliate link or monetization Tweet so that you would not appear spammy.

It seems that Twitter is now suspending lots of accounts.. maybe due to its heavy load and no revenue model situation, the consumers and users have to suffer.. sigh.

I don't really use Twitter for marketing, but I do use Tweetdeck (but it screws up sometimes) and Twitterific on my iPhone.

If you are into social media marketing, go with Tweetdeck. It's the best out there.

That being said, I have also heard that TweetDeck has a heavy memory footprint which hangs up the computer you are using.

So far, that hasnt happen to me, but it sure slows down my machine..

I've created a video on organizing all of the people you are following on Twitter. I use an RSS reader and categories to organize all of these people. That way I can go to my RSS reader and look at the feeds of all these people by categories... like "friends", "news", "SEM" etc.

Tweetdeck is great for tracking your personal groups (and Facebook stream too!).

I'm also going to use TweetLater (social Oomph) for Tweet scheduling and the like. I've seen some very effective uses of it...it looks like it's worth the money.

one of the biggest use by corporates on Twitter is Zappos. They tweet about promotions and offers and also their company happenings. Even their CEO uses Twitter to connect with the company's target market.

This all seems like great advice. Especially all the tips from vcklong. To be honest, I never even considered using twitter for business. I mean all the links are nofollow(and usually cloaked) and just didn't seem like the trade off between time spent and return made sense.

But maybe I should reconsider
