Default Question About Affiliate Programs

Hello,

I am new to internet marketing. I have a grasp on what I need to do but have not yet begun. Thus I am taking action. In my search to promote affiliate programs I have found that many require me to have a website already established...aside from Clickbank. If I am doing research on what to promote and I find something that looks good do I have to go build a website tailored to what the affiliate program thinks is attractive and will bring in traffic? What if I want to do just PPC or advertise on craigslist etc... It would seem that these programs would be happy to get advertisement from anywhere as long as they make a profit. I can understand they want ethical means of promotion but say I wanted to promote Civil War items and I do not have a website with that theme, do I need to build a website first with a Civil War theme. Is there a way around this? Thanks in advance.

With most affiliate programs you should not require a website
as the affiliate link you get from them will direct the traffic
you send via this affiliate link to their website.

Stick with those affiliate programs

It's going to be much easier to get approved for reputable affiliate programs if you have a site PLUS there are many reasons you'll be more successful if you have your own web site.

NOTE: It's against the rules to advertise affiliate programs on Craigslist and many of the reputable affiliate networks ONLY accept traffic from your own site and don't let you market on CL or social networking sites or on forums you don't own. Read the TOS for each program you join. If you market on other sites and it's not allowed you can be forced to forfeit your commission and the merchant will drop you from the program.

One of the reasons you want your own site is so you can generate the type of content that's going to attract traffic to your chosen niche. Without your own site you are left with just dropping links wherever they are allowed and you are sending traffic direct to the merchant. With your own site you have so much more control over everything and can pre-sell the visitors on the merchant's offer.

The exception to all this is PPC, but IMHO PPC is not a good place for n00bs to start and you can lose a lot of money if you don't know what you are doing.

Hope this helps and best of luck!

If you want a free website/landing page platform - temporary, check out synthasite.com or weebly.com.

It's best to at least warm up your prospects with a presell page before you send them off to a site that will try to make a sale.

You can test a niche and/or product before you spring for a domain name and hosting account.

Hope This Helps!!

It is so important to build your list regardless of the niche you choose to target. So yes it is important to have a page on your website to direct visitors to that allows you to capture their email. And at the same time presells the product you affiliate with.

It's pretty easy to learn how to build websites using wordpress nowadays. I feel it is vital to your career to learn how to build a basic website.

While you're learning how to build websites, I would recommend selling affiliate products through article marketing.

I have some cool tips and videos that I created for free. Hit me up if you want more information on the article marketing videos...
