Almost 2 mill/month expressions, making pennies!

by 16 replies
Hey everyone, I've got a website that gets around 2 million impressions (google ads) and its making me around $900 month. I know with such number of impressions I should be making alot more, what would yo suggest?

My traffic is on stories and quotes!

If you are making $900 profit per month you may be able to scale with some of your profits and of course split test your ads and copy as Andrew suggests

    Best of luck

What's the average time on site and pageviews per visitor?

If visitors have no commercial intent when they visit your site then ads may be your best bet.

Who are your visitors? What might they need to the point you can attract their interest? Figure these things out and you'll have a much better idea of what they might buy.

Do you analyze which ads are being clicked? From which advertisers? For particular products or services?

Find out what visitors are clicking on, then see if you can find an affiliate opportunity that earns more per click than your current ads.

Impressions don't mean anything. It is all about CLICKS.

If you are not getting as many clicks as you wish, you should work on your ad.

I agreed with you, as Google ads give return with number of clicks which is got by them not by number of impressions. You should use native ads or ads which give revenue acccording to cost per impression basis, until then there is no meaning of number of impression you got.

You can also try using heatmaps to determine the most clicked areas and tweak to improve the click through rates. A couple of suggestions for heatmap software/ services you could use are hotspot analytics, click heat and crazyegg if you have the budget for it.

    Hope that helps

Not sure why everyone is just talking about your ads. Chances are you aren't targeting effectively. A great ad will still under perform if you are hitting irrelevant searches.

Are you running any broad or phrase match keywords? Check out the search term reports and start adding tons of negatives, then hone your campaigns, ad groups AND ads down to the keywords that are producing conversions

You're looking through the wrong end of the telescope.

Impression count is of little use to you, other than to get a sense of ad performance (not website performance). It's pointless to try and extract website value by measuring it using ad impressions. All they do is tell you how much your ad has been shown (and I say 'shown' but that's not even accurate as it can appear on a page without being seen, for example).

You first need to measure how many people actually landed on your website. That's your first website measure. That will be the beginning of an investigation as to how well you convert your asset.

(only when you have a good sense of website conversion does it make sense to look at ad performance and impressons)

Hope that gives you some guidance on where to start. Good luck with your ventures.

I say "work on those clicks!"

Great job though, some people would be thrilled with $900 month, so all you have to do is fine tune it for those extra clicks, and you have a home run I say.

    Good luck!

How much of the traffic is bad bot traffic?

Are you doing any time on site retargeting?

Have you tried a welcome splash to get people to "sign-up" ?

If you can generate leads and also start to remarket to people who have spent a reasonable amount of time on your site then you need to develop either something to sell to the audience.

What are the most clicked ads? - can you develop a product that fits those clicks?

    Best regards,

    Ozi

    What's the traffic quality?

    Where are they coming from?

Where are the analytics coming from?

Sometimes with bot traffic, Google Analytics will report the true HUMAN visitor amount and cPanel will show the stats for RAW IMPRESSIONS..

I've recently come across a piece of software that analyzes the visitors' activity. It shows you exactly where visitors clicked.

Here's an article on that and some more:

    Hope you find it useful.
