Any Tips For Promoting/Selling Our New Inspirational/Self-Help EBook?

Hey all!

So... My sister & I created an e-book based around self-love and self-acceptance. It features famous quotes, our thoughts, personal stories and even some original photographic artwork.

We're quite proud of it, as stepping out like this is totally new to us & took some courage. We just felt like our message was too important to allow insecurities to hold it (and us) back.

Any tips on how to actually spread the word & generate leads/sales & a community would be so appreciated.

Right now we have the e-book available on GumRoad and DPD.

For this kind of product, it might be an idea to build up a social media following on Facebook, Twitter & Instagram. You would be able to pass on elements of your message and try to entice people, once they are following you, to purchase your ebook.

You need to make sure that your sales page is well designed and optimised to ensure that you get the best possible conversion rate.

I would also suggest having a look at ClickBank | Clickbank | Premier Internet Retailer

Thanks Ben! Really appreciate your reply.
We have already been doing the social media thing, and our channels have been growing ssslowly but surely.
We'll definitely be giving ClickBank a look, though.

Just a heads up not wise to put any links in the thread as this will look as self promotion and be careful of any PMs offering to help but good luck with the ebook and I would use Instagram as I think this may be a better way to get some followers oh and welcome to the forum

Maybe look at Facebook if you can either join some groups or create your own community.

Are you open to paid traffic?

I can suggest BookRix, a free publisher who also gets your eBook on sites like Amazon, Google and Barnes & Noble. You may also want to launch your eBook as a digital product on Click Bank.

Don't be drawn in by big names you can do all of this yourself within a couple of hours.

As mentioned Amazon would be my choice because as that's where the traffic is.

You'll still want to promote the book yourself so ask yourself:

Who else is in my space?

Where do they promote their books (blogs, podcasts, interviews etc)?

How can I get in front of their audience?

Just start by selling it on amazon kindle publishing...You can make a lot of money, and you will see if there is a market for it quickly as Amazon has a lot of traffic.

Do NOT put it on clickbank right now. I love how some people seem to think putting a product on clickbank is easy...You have to : First of all pay the $50 fee to open your account, then have a website running in which you sell your ebook, upload the clickbank banner on every page that you have; sales page, download page etc, have disclaimers from clickbank, write a high quality sales page so it converts...Lots of back and forth with their customer service reps because they will ask you to change stuff before they approve it....

AND THEN, your book is on clickbank. You will have almost zero traffic from buyers because clients don't go there to buy books. This is a place where AFFILIATES go to find offer to promote, MEANING, you better have paid someone to write a REALLY GOOD SALES LETTER, meaning that you better pay to get traffic or have some kind of audience to prove the affiliates that it converts (no smart and or good affiliate will promote an offer without data)...

Oh, and affiliates won't promote just a book....why would they?? Not enough money. Most of the products on clickbank have a SALES FUNNEL. The book that they sell is just the front end product, as soon as someone buys, they get offered 2-3 other products, at a higher price....The affiliates will make money on ALL PRODUCTS. This is where the big money is made. Do you know how to build websites? How to build sales funnels? On time offers? Down-sales? How to automate all of this? What kind of claims is allowed on clickbank and what is not? Can you use a clockdown on your sales page? Can you use the word guarantee in your sales page, etc?

Most people that talk about clickbank are not even on clickbank, they have no idea about the process to get a product there, LET ALONE the process to attract affiliates. This is a 3-6 months project that we are talking about here.

Meanwhile, within 2 days you can have your ebook selling on amazon kindle. Which one do you prefer?

Just start with Amazon first, then if it sells a lot, then consider clickbank. This is the smart way to do this.

    Hi:

Have you considered putting the book on Amazon? You could run ads on Amazon as well. Inside your book you could put a link to capture email addresses and start a email list for future books.

Amazon is a large platform, but you'll give up a portion of your sales to them for the use of their platform.

    Good Luck,

Congrats on the new book. I think social media would be the easiest way to start and then of expand into Amazon where there is an large market of folks book shopping. Best of luck to you.

Agree with Ben. Social media are your "congregations" where you can best find and target people for your ebook. I think setting up a 1-2 stage funnel after your ebook is a good idea.

If you price your ebook low, you grab a bigger section of your market, get more people in the door and funnel them into say an audio version upsell of your book that they could listen to in their cars, you could do very well.

Pair that with targeting followers of accounts on Instagram that relate to your niche, you could do pretty well.

Some might even say giving your ebook away for free for the sole purpose to provide lots of value upfront and get as many customers as possible into your audio upsell might be the best way to give the most value upfront, generate more leads, and make more money on the backend with your audio upsell. All just depends on how you want to structure it.

    Hope this helps!

Did you do any market research?

Who are your potential customers? Their age, gender, locale, etc. Where do they hang out online?

Are there similar books being sold? If so, where?

You need to know what your target is before you can hope to hit it.

this niche is made for social media. i'd start with facebook. you need a page for your book and maybe even a facebook group. use a business account because you're gonna need to buy some facebook ads to drive traffic to your facebook page.

both twitter and instagram are great platforms as well. i just think that you'll get more bang for the buck with facebook.

You can become a KDP author and promote through Amazon. In addition, you can share a link with a free preview of your book with kindle instant book previews

You have the book for sale....

I'd dig up any venue that will let you get up and speak in your area.... Schools, support groups, civic groups, business groups, churches, woman's groups, etc.

Be like Tony Robbins was in the very beginning... Speak anywhere!

Create a "standard" list of questions for your interviews...

Create a Facebook page for your book...

Create a YouTube channel for your book... Interview Speakers, Coaches, Civic Leaders, Counselors, people who gone through the things mentioned in your book and anyone else who is relevant. Put the videos up on your YouTube channel. Put the audio up on SoundCloud. Have the interviews transcribed into a Word Document; turn those into PDFs and upload them to your Facebook page and appropriate web sites.

    Keep rinsing and repeating.....

I think using Facebook is one of the best ways to promote your ebook.
    But how about this one?
Find famous bloggers in that field and get contact with them.
Then, give them your ebook and ask them to recommend your ebook in their blogs.

Awesome job - one word of advice (we have a few products in the self-help/PD space). With this space, it is important to clearly target a desired outcome with a solution (your book). There are a gazillion "fuzzy" products in this space that struggle mightily, the ones that do the best promise to help people be, have, do something they urgently want or to overcome a challenge they badly want to overcome.

I would strongly urge you (for this product or as a follow-on product) to focus on a specific desire (to be happier, more confident, more comfortable around people, etc...) and formulate a series of steps, tips, support to get there.

Once you have that type of product - then you want to do a couple of things:

    1. Build platforms using content and social activity - drive content daily (videos, articles, blog posts, social media posts) as well as engaging in social media posts and groups

    2. Start to test ads (Facebook & Insta are good initial options) - so you can refine your combination of ads/funnel and sales pages for effectiveness. This is the real way to scale your reach - but I would also advise you have a back-end product or two as it is tough to have profitable ad campaigns with a single product under $30 - ideally you have eventual customer value above $50 to really run effective ad campaigns
