Hi all

This is actually my first post in Warrior Forum.

The story goes like this.
I need advice and ideas on how to monetize a website I've been working on for a few years.

The platform is a content machine.
Authors post when they want and as much as they want and get paid.
There is a steady and constant flow of articles. In fact, I could ask particular authors to focus on a particular niche so that content orients on a particular subject.

I know that DFP or Adsense are an obvious answer.
Those platforms count by the thousand impressions and I'm simply not there yet.
Suggestions, thoughts, ideas ?

The platform is atarlife dot com

You could work on building an email list, so you can market affiliate offers to your list. To build your list, give away something for free. For example, I noticed you have an article called "Apps For Entrepreneurs." You could have the author turn it into a 1-page "Checklist" or "Cheat Sheet."

Then, put a banner on your front page that says "Get Your Apps For Entrepreneurs Checklist" and make people put in their email address in order to get it.

After they're on your list, you can market affiliate products for Entrepreneurs to them. Go to Clickbank and you can find a lot of offers for just about any niche.

I really think you could make more money with an email list than through Adsense, etc., unless you plan to get a ton of traffic.

    Hope that helps.

Find a product you like and would recommend. Then on your website you endorse and promote it to your website visitors and e-mail subscribers. If they like it, they will click on your affiliate link and you will make a commission on the sale

If I were you, I'll start producing content on clickbank reviews.

Actually, there's bunch of products (digital or physical) that you can promote, regardless of your traffic volume.

You could just open your website to people who will pay to post in it. With enough traffic, they can pay you money, you get a portion and you pay the writer. The model is quite similar to what PayPal is doing - managing payments and taking a portion.

Here is a very good advertising option. It delivers contextual ads based on keywords in your content. As your site covers a wide range of topics this would be ideal to monetize your content over a vast range of products that are provided on Amazon with you as an affiliate.

    hope this helps

Who told you AdSense paid per thousand impressions? Whoever it was, they haven't a clue what they are talking about and obviously never used AdSense. AdSense is my primary monetization company and I couldn't make an income with them if I had to wait for 1,000 impressions!

AdSense is pay per click, not pay per impression; you can roughly assume you''' get about 1 click to 1,000 views, but that's not always the case.

For example this month so far my website AdSense stats are:

    Page Views: 75,171
    Ad Impressions: 55,985
    Clicks: 499

That's no where's near the 1 click to 1,000 views most people tell you to expect.

And it fluctuates every month. Some months getting nearly as many clicks as impressions, other months getting huge number of impressions but no clicks. You never know what it's going to be.

Also AdSence pays 61% of the AdWord bid for the keyword the person searched for before clicking the ad. (See Google AdWords KeyWord Tool, for a list of bid prices)

What that means if Google AdWords says the bid price of a keyword is $1; then Google AsSence pays you .61c per click you receive from that keyword search result.

This is why it is best to carefully research your keywords and strive to only use keywords with a $5 or more bid price and NEVER use one with a bid price under a $1.

Think about it: a lot of bid prices are something like .02c... meaning you get paid only .01c per click!

When writing my articles, I always pay attention to the Google AdWords Keyword Tool and the bid prices of keywords. I try to ALWAYS have a keyword with a bid of $5 or more, and if I can find them I aim for the $20 or more ones. (A $20 bid = a $12 pay per click)

But then go back and look at my stats for the month.

    Page Views: 75,171
    Ad Impressions: 55,985
    Clicks: 499

    499 clicks with a .02 bid = income of only $4.99

499 clicks with a minimum of $1 bid = income minimum of $304

499 clicks with a minimum of $5 bid = income minimum of $2,495

499 clicks with $20 bid = income minimum of $5,988

choose your keywords based off AdWords bid prices. That's the secret to AdSense income, even with low traffic and few clicks.

    That said...

I run a website similar to what you are describing. Basically a database of freelance articles. In my own site, there is limited niche, however.
    • self-publishing
    • authorship
    • character creation
    • fantasy world building
    • writing medieval high fantasy
    • writing yaoi
    • writing Elves
    • writing wizards
    • building magic systems for your world
    • minimalist living
    • building art cars
    • costume making
    • CosPlay
    • Maine history
    • Gypsy culture
    • alien abductions
    • the world's most haunted car

By limiting the site's niche to a few topics that are related, it allows me to focus on monetization niches, rather then far flung.

For my own site I monetize it with:
    • making daily vlogs on YouTube
    • Google AdSence
    • LinkShare
    • Share-A-Sale
    • Amazon Associates
    • Zazzle
    • writing books for Kindle & listing them on site

There are lots of others, like ClickBank, Commission Junction, CafePress, PepperJam, SmashWords, Nook, etc. I use those as well, but they are not my primary ones to use.

Income wise, my top preforming affiliate is Zazzle, followed by Amazon, followed by AdSence, followed by LinkShare, and so those are the ones I focus on, because they are the ones that have proven the best for my and my site.

If I had to go with just one: I'd pick Zazzle. Zazzle works, because I use it to illustrate my articles. I can find a nice poster for sale of a beautiful landscape, to put in my article. Doesn't have to have anything to do with the article; just use it to make the page look pretty. People can click on the photo to go right to the sale page and buy the poster to hang on their wall. My income from Zazzle is $200 to $600 a month. Zazzle pays me 15% commision. Most of the posters are on canvas and sell for $75 or more. So it doesn't take selling too many to add up fast either.

If I had to pick only 3, I'd say Zazzle, Amazon, and AdSense. They by far out preform the others in leaps and bounds.

  • Hi there,

Contextual audience engagement is a good option to monetize your website. It leads to higher eCPMs increasing user time-on-page and providing a satisfactory experience.

You could try our new native in-stream ad unit that delivers relevant advertisings, matching the website content. It is called vi stories and you could learn more about it by checking the vi.ai website.

Good answers everyone. Another good way is to banners to the sidebar widget of your blog with offers that are related to your niche and redirect them to a landing page. That way you build your list and trust with your subscribers and promote various offers to them in future. Hope that helps too.
