3 Niche Marketing Mistakes To Avoid

Error 1. You need to be an expert in your chosen niche.

You need to provide excellent quality material. You can do that by careful and thoughtful research. You can provide great content if you research a subject. Journalists often write in different subject areas. You can do the same.

Error 2. Sticking with one niche.

Establish yourself in one niche and then build your credibility in another. It always helps to diversify your income and you can benefit from creating content in different areas as it is more interesting for you.

Error 3. Working only as an affiliate

Sure there is money to be made as an affiliate but you get to build your credibility more by providing your own, unique products. You also get to keep the profit, too.

There's a lot more to niche marketing and this is an are that many people struggle with, this so please feel free to add your own thoughts about mistakes people make when niche marketing, and how they can succees, too.

I would add that niche selection is crucial. You want to select niches that contain hungry buyers for the products your offering but where the competition for buyer intent keywords is not so great that there is no positive ROI. This is better achieved with a product sales funnel offering more valuable as back end up-sells so you can work out your customer value.
This will tell you how much you can afford to pay for your traffic to make a profit.

One good thing about the Internet is that a number of smaller niches are closely associated with each other, so that there is overlap in the buying audience. With research (especially doing surveys), it's easier to build new products that serve these niches and cross sell them with those products.

    I would add:
-Sticking witha a niche that you are passionate about
Why....when you go to a store and need an advise on something you are buying...who will you buy from. I always buy from the seller who knows more and knows how to advise.
If you are a pro in your niche you surely know what people want and what are crytical points that wil make them buy from you if you know how to offer more.

This is really important advice. My first niche was singing lessons which is something I care absolutely nothing about. Keyword competition was extremely low but I never sold a single product. I just didn't care enough singing to provide valuable information about it therefore no one cared enough to buy from me.

    I can't agree more.
Just want to add that people believe that
in affiliate marketing their success will come
    over night.

They will get quick results with no effort at
    all.

You can make it through with affiliate marketing
but you need to put your mind into it.

and be patient because it takes time
and don't quit after a couple of tries and say "oh this
thing doesn't work let's go to the next one."

You also get all the headaches and hassles.

It depends on what you want to do.

Agreed with #3 the MOST for startups..

Rather than affiliate others, building your own micro product for $27 insures you can build a BUYERS LIST (worth more than the house I own).. and that is where the success is found online!

Hi John, Thanks for taking the time to post these 3 mistakes to avoid. I agree expert content is often a savior when you are not an expert. If it's an area you're interested in but not especially knowledgeable about you also learn something about that subject in the process. I also like the niche diversity idea as long as you remember to put adequate effort into each one and not fall into the trap of hopping from shiny object to shiny object.

Great tips! Thanks! I guess it's crucial to not get stuck on 1 topic, but grow in many areas of expertise. Good luck!

I dont about avoiding the wrong niche. But you need to choose a niche that you're comfortable with. Decide on a niche that, when you provide information it comes naturally to you. It has to be a niche that you don't pull your hair out over.

One thing to keep in mind is that no niche will ever be profitable if you're not willing to put in the work. Lots of people think of IM as a way to become rich overnight. That's just a pipe dream. It's also the reason why 95% quit after a few short months and then complain that it's impossible to make money online; that it's a myth. The only myth is that there's a magic push button formula that will bring instant riches overnight. If you see a product that makes this claim turn around and run away from it. They're more than likely scammers. Its does take hard work but to those willing to put in the effort the rewards are worth it.

One point to bear in mind is that you can start with one niche and then move sideways rather than from one niche to an entirely new one. So, for instance, How To Play Piano, then How To Read Music, How to Play Guitar etc.
