Very great classification you put here. I really find it interesting.

Wonder how many category 4 there are here in the forum. This is best category I believe.

Good read. A lot of people underestimate things like this. A lot of IM is psychological.

Absolutely, and the idea is to successfully appeal to the chosen target audience.

According to Hubspot blog a persona is a "semi-fictional representation of your ideal customer. " It is essentially a description of the typical person at which your marketing is aimed. ReachForce adds that personality is highly important in marketing these days, especially online. For instance, some people will be more extroverted than others, even if they have the same persona. Extroverts need lots of stimulation, and so they respond well to busy websites with plenty of things to do. However, an introverted person finds such websites distracting. Even though the web page may target their persona, it is not suited to their personality if the page is full of things to look at and actions to take.

They conclude that given that people do not stay on a website for very long before deciding to click away, it is clear that the web page they have landed on has to appeal to their persona, as well as their personality. To ensure that your marketing benefits from the data you use to build the persona, you also need to take into account personalities of your buyers if you want to truly engage with them.

Two men were talking in a bar, and one of them mentioned he had a son in college.

The other asked what he was studying.

First guy says, "psychology, and it's going to take him forever."

      "Why is that?"

"Well, first he has to get a BS, and we both know what that stands for. Then comes something called an MS, which I figure means 'More of the Same'. Finally, he gets a PHD, which I figure means 'Piled Higher and Deeper."

    Great list!

I think this is very informative, and looking at the list, it seems obvious the analytical buyer is the easiest to market to, as they simply look at the utility to price ratio, and make the purchase based on that.

Providing the best product at the best price seems intuitive anyway from a marketing perspective.

    Thanks for sharing!

This is a pretty concise well-put-together list. However, I'd like to add a 6th type.
    6. The Innovative buyer- This is virtually the complete opposite of the analytical buyer on the list. Where the analytical buyer makes decisions based on rules and procedures on how things should be done, always staying within boundaries, the innovative buyer feels that boundaries are for testing, pushing, and crossing albeit never unethically. He's informal and solves problems creatively. He develops ideas and strategies independent of rules. Definitely my fave personality type.

If I were you, I'd go back to the drawing board.

Reason number 1: Your 1st personality does not exist. Buyers who never buy are not buyers. Plus, have you met someone who had money but never bought anything ever?

My experience with negative, cynical people? They all owned clothes, many owned cars or bicycles, etc. They all ate food. Some of them paid for the food they ate.

As a general rule, always sell people what they want. If you only sell 'self-actualized buyers' what they want, you'll go broke if you're correct and there's only 5% of them around.

I thought that this was a great list to be able to understand buyers and prepare appropriate marketing and sales funnels to each type of buyer.
I liked your comment " As a general rule, always sell people what they want. If you only sell 'self-actualized buyers' what they want, you'll go broke if you're correct and there's only 5% of them around."
aince it expanded that list by making me think that not all buyers act consistently all of the time. Any buyer's core habits can be changed by external forces at any given time in the buying cycle. For example, if that buyer experienced a break-in in to their house - If normally analytical, they might become an emotional buyer to quickly protect their family and buy a security system or give in to a spouse's anxiety over being broken into again soon.

I've got a couple of questions: Are there any scientific citations for any of those personality clusters? From credible universities?

I ask because I see these types of claims being made all the time and I'd like to get something close to hard science to verify them.
