Squeeze Page Questions

I'm almost done creating an infoproduct and I want to have a successful launch, so I'm getting ready to start building a list of potential customers by offering free advice via an email newsletter which I will advertise on a squeeze page. Since I'm new to IM and want to do things right, I have a few questions about this:

1. I already have the domain name that I will use for the product but since the product is not yet finished and I want to focus on listbuilding, should I just make the squeeze page the index page of the site (ie www.xyz.com instead of www.xyz.com/newsletter)? If not, should I write a few articles about my topic, place those in the index page, and just link to the squeeze page from the articles?

2. I've read that squeeze pages are meant to be somewhat sparse in content so as not to distract visitors' attention away from the opt-in box. With that said, how important is SEO w/ regards to squeeze pages? I want the site to rank well in the SERPS even if the only page on the site is a squeeze page with little content (anywhere from 100-300 words). Do IMers typically spend a lot of time and effort SEOing a squeeze page?

3. When I actually launch the product, should I keep the squeeze page as a separate page or combine it with the product's sales copy to try to get signups?

4. Is it generally frowned upon to link to a squeeze page from article directories?

Thanks in advance!

I've worked with some really, really bright marketers as their dedicated webmaster. These clients make $10k+ a month.
Along the way, I've noticed they all do the same thing (or a slight variation of it).

Text or Video Squeeze page ==> Salespage.

This way, they collect the lead first and THEN send them to the salespage.
Then they use the email to followup every few days and build up loyalty.

Once the customer buys, here's the flow:

Salespage ==> One-Time Offer ==> Downsell ==> Even Lower Downsell ==> Thank You Page.

If you don't have the software to do this, at the very least do this:

Squeeze ==> Salespage ==> One Time Offer ==> Thank You.

    That's a solid start for a newbie.

Whatever you do...it's normally best to start with a Squeeze page and build up a "teaser" to get them to optin. If you don't know what I mean, go watch the Evening news and see how they keep you "teased" for the very last (and normally stupid) segment.

It really depends on your goal...

I personally would use the index page as the page I am going to promote the most, if you are planning to get affiliates for your product put your sales page as your index page, if you are planning to build a list to sell your product too, then consider having your opt in page as your index page...

The best advice I can give you on squeeze pages is keep it simple and include 3 to 7 of your biggest benefits of your product

I've found that video lowers conversions and product images increase conversions.
Use those tips and you should definitely link to your squeeze page in articles.

Just keep it simple starting out and get everything done then go back and make things better.

Wow, great info so far. I learned early on that listbuilding is extremely important, I've just never done it before so I appreciate all the help! I'm still wondering about the SEO aspect though, because I'm having trouble finding any info about that here on the Warrior Forum. Maybe that's an indication that SEOing a squeeze page is not a big concern?
