Default Craigs List

I heard they might now be geoblocking....

Basically, you might only be able to post in the state/province your from...

Is there anyway around this?

Thanks

I think they were testing geo-blocking, would be slightly drastic to geo-block.

You would need to use proxies. Tough to find some that are for the specific state etc so you would need to get yourself some good private ones.

I was just doing a search for private ones... No luck so far...

Anybody have a list of proxies by state?

Thanks!

I think you can get something like proxyswitcher pro. I'm not really into that stuff but I know most people recommend private proxies for posting on CL.

Awesome move. They can't implement it fast enough. I'm sick and tired of looking for local designers, programmers and other team members just to have them all be in Pakistan and the Philippines.

How dare they expect people to follow their Terms of Use. How shocking that all these people who seem to think the rules don't apply to them are now faced with something to make it even harder to break the terms that they agreed to follow. Good for Craigslist, I hope it works. That site has practically been ruined by spammers.

All very well in principle. But if the person who can best do your work doesn't happen to live in your area, doesn't it seem a little counter productive to make it harder to contact them? I appreciate it's hard to tell the real from the spamm but there is an element of cutting off one's nose to spite one's face in all of this.

Not counter productive at all. Craigslist is built to be for local business transactions only which is why it's all over the site to only deal locally and for cash. If the person you need isn't local then Craigslist isn't the place to find them. This is why there is no global search function. It's also why you're only suposed to post a single ad every 48 hours and only in the location that is closest to you or the product. Unfortunately spammers seem to think those rules don't apply to them which is why Craigslist pretty much sucks these days.

Yeah, this is the same argument I get from Indian programmers all the time. The work I look for isn't rocket science. If it makes sense, I'll outsource it anywhere in the world. In fact, I just hired 2 via RentaCoder.com.

When I post on Craigslist, it is BECAUSE I want someone local. I have reasons for that. I might want regular face to face meetings to go over things, have a dialog, brainstorm, develop trust, etc.

If I post and I say in bold letters, LOCAL ONLY, that is exactly what I mean. Don't send me an email telling me how you can work just as well in Bangledesh using Skype and Go2Meeting. I don't care.

The internet has so much garbage as it is. I was looking for something on another popular website, and had to wade through about 30 pages of garbage before I found what i was looking for.. Grrr!

What?

Most of the marketing done on craigslist is annoying. As I asked one spammer, who in their right mind would do business with someone who has proven themselves to be an untrustworthy liar? Unfortunately, most of the people who market on craigslist fall into that category. I know there are people that use it to make money but my self respect is worth more to me than money...

I agree with a few of you here. I'm so sick of seeing people who are out of state, out of the coutnry posing as local merchants & services. Wouldn't mind it at all.
