I'm going to buy a website, budget is about $4500. It's my first time to try this kind of thing. I'm thinking of two options: Flippa or finding a broker.

It's not easy to find out good website to buy on flippa. Really not easy because there are so many low quality sites. So I'm also considering getting a broker to find sites for me. But I'm not familiar with this. I have a small budget and will buy a small site. I'm worried that brokers may not be interested in small transactions.

What are your opinions on this?

Don't buy if you don't know the basic of buying web on any auction sites. Don't trust the brokers, still you must learn how to buy a website.

I think you can try to buy it from Join4Biz, it is a free market for business exchanges, global opportunities and partners & investors.

    Honestly,

I would put your money away and create your own web site in a niche that makes sense for you. Web sites can be created for next to nothing these days. You can easily do it yourself or pay someone skilled to do it for you for a lot less than $4500. Build something around your own skills, experience, and interests. Then use your budget to scale up your traffic and exposure.

There's a very real possibility, if you don't buy a "fake" business site, that the links and traffic will slowly disappear anyway. You aren't buying the previous owner ... and in a lot of cases, that person will be responsible for the traffic and any income the site might be getting. Maybe that person was very skilled, or charismatic, or followed by a lot of fans ... unfortunately, you aren't that person and you may not be able to maintain the previous owner's levels of traffic and income. Of course, you could do better than the previous owner ...

Whenever I see money-making businesses for sale . . . I always wonder . . . why is the owner selling if the site truly is making money? Can't the owner hire a site manager to keep the money coming in if he no longer wants to be involved daily?

Is the current owner bailing for some reason that you don't know? Look at an extended period of income and see what his "net" profit is for at least the most recent 2 consecutive years.

Be very careful that you see behind the facade.

Don't spend $4500 to buy a website. You should learn how to do this yourself or hire someone for a few dollars ($100-$300) to build a website for you.

Plus, a website can be very professionally looking but at the end of the day, it's all about getting DAILY interested visitors who will convert to sales for you. If you can't master that, your website is useless.

I have been using the Flippa for last 2 years. I think mit is okay. Beside the flippa, I also use the Domain selling & buying site. Before buying a site, you should check some point such as, is the content original or, plagiarism? is the current traffic targeted audience? how many content and how much important the content is? How many bounch rate & so on. Thanks for your interest.

  • A lot of research needs to be done before buying websites from sites like Flippa. You can sometimes find some really good websites but you should be able to identify them.
With that kind of budget, you should be looking to create a new website and promote it using white hat techniques rather than wasting your money on brokers.
