Default Are rented e-mail lists worth it?

I was looking around for potential JV partners, trying to find people with e-mail lists in the real estate investing niche. I came across a bunch of services offering to rent out lists.

My gut reaction is to think that 90% of the time the message will be hit by spam filter and the rest will just damage the brand you're trying to build. Anyone have a good experience with rented lists?

Based on my experience in the past (which was a few years ago), the conversion rates on these lists are very, very low. I doubt much has changed since then...

If you want to give it a shot, just do a small mailing to test the results.

But, I think your gut feeling is right. I wouldn't bother...

I've had a couple OK experiences with rented lists but nothing monumental... There's a lot of companies out there and most are useless... Just going through them all trying to find the legitimate ones is a hassle; and if you're trying to build a trustworthy brand I'd suggest sticking with building your email list the good old fashioned way...

If people see your site in their inbox and they know they didn't sign up for your list then they won't trust you as much even if they agreed at some point and time to receive promo emails.

You might get lucky and find some good leads in a rented list.

However, the best possible thing you could do for your business is build your own targeted list and build a relationship with those individuals.

I think a lot depends on who you are workign with. I can't say that I have experience in thie field. I did buy a WSO a short time ago for $5 that talked about his experience with this type of marketing. I tell you, I would be a very happy camper if I had done what this fellow did. I am planning on giving it a try in the very near future, with the company he worked with. See the WSO here http://www.warriorforum.com/warrior-...hts-bonus.html I was very happy with what I got for my $5.

Hi guys

to me the most important part is building a relationship and rented lists arent going to do anything for you.

I would avoid it if i was you.

You should also consider how often the rented list is blasted as if it is sent out to different people every day they arent going to be very responsive.

kind regards

sam

Really? How do you know that? If I show you such a company listed on the NASDAQ stock exchange ... where are you going to put it? In the rest of 10% that - according to you - will damage the brand you're trying to build?

It seems that there are a lot of negative comments in this thread regarding using rented lists. And as best as I can tell, most or all of those comments are from people that have not used the lists.

The one person that I know of that has used the services of such a company tells a much different story though. They did a massive campaign bigger than the list company had ever done previously. They spent $5,000 on it and the sales letter was ran through a spam filter to make sure it didn't get caught in most junk filters. They ended up with a 20% open rate, a 10% click through, and a 2% conversion and made almost $100,000 in profits.

You can say what you like about using such lists. For my money, I would take results like that any day of the week.

People that did have relatively good experiences with the rented lists, were going after the IM niche?

Be kind, for you shall pass here but once
