The #1 Thing Keeping Online Marketers Stuck, Not Making Money...

After 17 years of doing this "online thing"... I've come to realize
what the #1 thing is that keeps most people from seeing any success or making
any real money.

It's because at one time or another, most of us THINK that we
need to know more information than we have now.

We think there's yet ANOTHER secret piece of knowledge
we need to find, learn, and use... and THEN we will finally make
progress.

But do you notice something about that?

It's a never-ending cycle.

It keeps you stuck.

Because once you buy into a new program and learn
the information... your mind starts to think "okay, now I gotta learn
THIS one more last piece of information, and THEN I'll see progress".

Again, it's a never ending cycle. You keep spinning, and never get
anywhere.

This constant THINKING that you need more information
is what keeps you stuck.

I remember back in 2001, when I first started online...
I went to several seminars.

But when I got home, I was looking for the next thing
I thought I needed to know.

Because of that, I never really saw much progress right
away.

Sure, over time I've learned that knowledge only helps you
when it's successfully applied.

Knowing without doing is pretty much the same thing as not knowing
it at all.

So, if you want to double your productivity online, and dramatically
boost your performance... start telling yourself that you know,
right now, all you need to know.

Sure, if you're just starting out, there's a certain level of skill
and knowledge you gotta get first.

But for the most part, many of us have all the knowledge and
skill we need, to get at least close to the success we want.

It doesn't mean we will use it, which is why it doesn't come down
to more knowledge.

It comes down to just taking action, using the knowledge, and DOING.

Because if you keep believing that you can't get where you want
unless you have the right information... you'll keep searching and searching
for more and more information.

There will always be another secret you gotta learn, always another
new program or course.

And because we THINK we need more information... we keep chasing
after it.

When we chase information, we fail to apply it and put it into action.

So, if there's one thing I can suggest that has helped me over the
last 17 years... it's this:

Success comes down to doing, implementing, and taking action.

It's not about more information. It's about USING the info you
already have.

Just because you KNOW something, doesn't mean you'll use it,
and the results come from the application of it.

So, if you can focus on taking more and more action over the
next few weeks, and less buying/reading/learning new information...
I'm willing to bet you'll see more progress and results online.

You don't need more info, we have more than enough now.

We're swamped with information... and learning more and more
just slows us down.

So just know that you're not missing any information, you're
probably missing application and using that info.

I promise, switch your focus from acquiring info, and instead,
start using the info... and taking action... you'll see more results.

The fastest way to boost your performance and productivity
is making a list of action steps you can take each day... and
do that instead of always seeking more and more information.

    Hi Shawnlebrun:

Thanks for your most insightful post. It's definitely right on target.

As you said "Success comes down to doing, implementing, and taking action".

Take for instance losing weight. I was a few pounds (20 lbs probably) over weight for several years. I kept telling myself "I'll start working out next week or next month. I'll make it my New years resolution, etc.

I didn't finally start losing weight until I made up my mind to take action. I joined a gym, started tracking my exercise progress and started eating better.

    And guess what??

I lost weight and started feeling better all because I took action.

Of course the same applies at internet marketing as you said.

    Thanks again!

It could be to do with lack of confidence in not really understanding the information and not knowing where to start. It's true that it helps to have an action plan or step by step plan. This is what has helped me to stop procrastinating.

I think people are looking for the easy way too, often instead of just putting in the work, learning from trial and error, they want to be handed something, unfortunately without the action, you won't get anywhere

Taking action is the hardest thing to do. Although we know, we need to take action many of us are still afraid to.

As you said its easy to get stuck in the perpetual cycle of buying more products thinking with the thought that the next one will change your life.

I've come to realize that overthinking won't get me the results I want and that taking action helps me to validate my ideas faster. The more action you take, the more results you get. Results give you data, and from that data, you can make adjustments. You won't know if something will unless you try it and see what happens.

This is the way I have been operating recently, and I've made more progress this year than anything else I've done in the years before. I try to stop overthinking and just take action.

Most people will read this and say well that's obvious but the problem is they still won't go out and take any action.

It's always easier to make a decision right then to make the right decision. Always remember that.

Absolutely on point there's so much noise and so many distractions and so many strategies that we feel we need to learn them all in order to stay on the cutting edge (me too) If you took one product or service and learned how to master it without distraction success is there for the taking.

There is also this mindset of thinking that your product (if you create them) is never QUITE ready to be released, it just needs this or that done on it, this or that bug ironed out, and that buyers will never accept it if it's just lacking this feature, etc. But at some point you just have to bite the bullet and believe in it, and believe in your ability to handle the certain percentage of dissatisfied customers that you will ALWAYS get, even if you work on your product for 20 years. You've just got to stop making excuses at some point and take the plunge.

Good post. I will say there is somewhat of an alternate view. I think when we stop learning and growing we end up "dying". And I mean that metaphorically.

But I understand your Context here. And it is true. But I would never dissuade anyone from improving what they have by gaining more education and information.

What keeps people stuck are 2 things:

    1. No money to get started and keep marketing to test what works and what doesn't.

    2. They find "mentors" who want to teach them to make $1000's per month online but many of these "mentors" make less then $100 per month. It is like the blind leading the blind.

According to me, not taking actions on what you have learned, is the main reason for many marketers not to make any money

I would say this is the main reason.

Someone mentioned lack of focus... you gotta know what
to focus on, and then take action.

The worst part is, a lot of people make the mistake of
      thinking BUSY means productive.

      Not even close.

There's a HUGE difference between being BUSY and productive.

Being busy can fill an 8 hour day yet keep you stuck where you don't want to be.

Being productive and doing what matters can help you accomplish more in a short time than you can imagine.

Most people stay stuck because they just stay busy doing minor things.

      Why?

Fear. It's scary to keep taking action to get out of your comfort zone.

But the price you pay? Suffering where you are and where you continue to be.

MOST of what we all do each day isn't really that important. But we give ourselves the illusion that simply "doing" means we are being productive.

      But that's not true.

In each area of your life... only a small handful of things actually matter and lead to the results you want.

Focus on those... take action and do those...and drop the rest.

So yes, like Brent said... focus.

But it's gotta be on the right stuff.

When you focus your time and effort on JUST the productive stuff and keep taking action on THOSE... you will see exponential productivity increases.

Focusing your time and effort on THE 3 to 4 most important action steps that matter, in your biz, will help you take more action on what matters.

The result of that is getting where you want to be... so much faster and easier.

To add to the already full blown advices above, I believe that setting too unrealistic goals is also another reason for not getting the success one wishes for. It's important to remember that "A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step" as someone smart quoted.
