Internet Marketing Advice

Hello all,

I'm new to the forums but fairly savvy on internet marketing. Just wanted some advice on where to go next.

I recently launched an online affiliate-based shopping website, aimed at promoting goods from all over the UK alongside charity gifts and goods. I've done all the basics - populated the store with over 300 products, cross-linked pages and done (most of) the SEO. I've set up and linked Facebook, Twitter, Linked In, Google Plus. I've done the sitemaps and search engine submissions.

At the moment I am working on a zero budget until I get my first sale (I only set up shop two weeks ago), so am looking for ideas on where to go next without spending money. Once I get some income, I will use it to go for paid advertising, but that isn't an option at the minute.

So what do you guys think should be my next step, or do you think I should stick where I am for the minute with social media and the shop? Thanks in advance!

    Have you done any promotion?

Without knowing more about what you are up to and have done so far, we can't help much.

    Brent's right.

Even so, I'm going to take a swing at it.

One of the best ways to bring interested people to a store site without spending money is to get exposure from sites that reach the same audience. One example is guest posting on niche blogs. Another would be to write and submit articles to print publications and tabloids.

In your author credit, provide a link to one of the charity products. Even though you're running a store, you can deflect some of the "she just wants a link to make money" resistance you might get from some outlets.

If you've done a proper job of crosslinking, you should draw some traffic to your money pages, too. Even if it doesn't, the engagement will help your search and social media efforts. And supporting charitable causes by offering their products from your store may make you more newsworthy, even if it's just in your own community. With the never ending, 24/7 news cycle, you might be surprised how many outlets scan local news for story ideas.

All I've done so far is what I've said - set up FB and Twitter, posted to them both, done most of the SEO on the site and submitted to the search engines. I haven't done any other promotion. I will look into the guest post idea, and maybe put together a press release. I am planning to approach small charities to feature them on the site, and have already approached some event organisers about listing their shopping events.
