What's The Best Business Model/ Industry, Right Now?

Hey All,

Just wanted to get some opinions as to what you think the best business model and/or industry is when the economy is doing bad?

What business models do better and thrive on an economic downturn? I know there are some in real estate, but was curious as to if anyone has any other suggestions?

Soon enough, I'll be helping my friend start a new venture. Brokering for plastic surgery and other types of surgery's and possibly jet/charter brokering as I hear thats a highly in demand industry, last time I checked.

Besides supermarkets or funeral homes which may not be effected like some other businesses out there, what do you think is the best business model for a "recession" and can be started up without investing tens of thousands of dollars?

Looking forward to peoples suggestions...

  • Well, the best business (at least the easiest I think) model is the desperate buyer.

Just think about it logically and creatively:

What does a recession make people feel like?

What do they desperately need? What could you present them, that they would be willing to spend their last dollars on?

You may not like what you come up with.

Or you may come up with something amazing

Any kind of property is worth buying if you can afford it and the taxes. There will never be more property. Well, maybe not hurricane property, but even in the long run, it will always increase in value.

Money isn't real, George. It doesn't matter. It only seems like it does.

Desperate buyers are always good to profit from and maybe I should do more niche research into that.

I guess people wanting to change they way they look could be considered a "desperate buyer", right? They feel the pain of not fitting in or looking the way they want? I do think the plastic surgery sector is rising as well. We will be doing it internationally so it can be a wide field.

I was looking for business models or a specific industry that might do very well because of a "recession". I wasn't thinking of buying property personally and there are ways to not buy anything and just broker to other people in RE. During a recession, certain sectors of real estate make even more money than if times were good, so thats the type of business model/ industry I'm interested in.

Would you consider someone wanting to change the way they look a "desperate buyer"?

The health and wellness sector, including these beauty products are in growing demand with the baby boomers, correct? Baby boomers should be a good target market?
