How to start my journey?

Hi all,

Long time reader first time poster and new War Room Member.

I have worked online for about 20 years. I own a couple of successful web hosting firms both in the 6 figure range in YOY sales so nothing real huge. I make a comfortable living but want to diversify my income streams. I've been fascinated over the years by a few online marketing guru's and came close a few times in signing up for some ridiculously priced system or blueprint but never pulled the trigger.

I dabble a bit here and there with online money making sites. I've maxed out a couple rev share sites and pull in some good cash. But I hate relying on someone else's site or system to be online for me to make money.

My Strengths
  • I know WordPress and have coders and designers on staff I can use.
  • Anything related to web hosting, DNS, email I am well versed.
  • I've played around with getresponse a few months and have a good grasp
  • I'm self employed so I have lot's of time and energy to put into it.
  • I can put some cash in to get it setup.

My Weaknesses
  • No experience setting up sales funnels/clickfunnels.
  • No list.
  • No products

Seems just about every lead form I fill out goes to some new system. I've seen 4 percent, viralteambuilder, ryan university and several more. Is it wise to pick one of these systems and run with it? If so which one? I won't throw out names but many of these systems have some pretty damning reviews on Youtube so it's hard to separate the truth from the hype.

Thanks in advance for your replies!

Here are some simple tips to use the Warrior Forum to your benefit and to help your business. Some of these tips can be also used for many forums when you are using forum marketing in general.-Jill Carpenter

Good deal GJ. Your skill set is impressive. Play to your strengths. If you are a WP guy, strongly consider adding a blog to your marketing arsenal. Sensational brand builder. Content central: posts, reviews, videos and podcasts, all can be gobbled up through a rocking blog. Also, blogs are 1 stop shopping for customers. If you can sell something, you can sell it more effectively through your blog.

I second the advice for finding a mentor. Select a coach you vibe with. Follow their lead. You can read their blog or buy their products or simply subscribe to their list to see how much value they bring to the table.

I'd move away from thinking about a product and focus on list building. Folks buy your product not so much based on the product's features, but if they trust you. Before they trust your advice, they check the source.

So whether you're sharing helpful, practical tips through a self-hosted blog (seems like a perfect fit, with your WP experience) or through building a list with in-depth, resource-style emails, the help you offer folks for free inspires people to buy your premium advice. Aka, the product you buy into.

You can grow your list through blogging, through using benefits-heavy squeeze pages and by engaging in joint partnerships....but since you have no list to offer other Warriors, I'd suggest guest posting in your niche of choice. Awesome way to leverage your presence, to build your subscriber base, to gain credibility and to establish your expertise.

Reviews: so tough to trust the bad ones. Really. Most are just unhappy folks with an ax to grind. I have never met a happy, clear, successful, high energy, inspired person who would devote more than a second's worth of their energy to what they DO not like, or what they HATE, because where your attention and energy goes, grows.

If you read a bad review you are seeing a confused admirer in action. Like the Reverend Run quote. If these folks genuinely did not want anything to do with a product they would never post the negative review. This seems confusing to our silly little minds but the truth of the matter is any bad review is about a person's projection - how they see the world - and has nothing to do with the product itself.

I seem to be leaning toward Zen but goodness, taking this wisdom and running with it helped me separate the riff-raff from the honest, clear, supportive reviews which helped me zero in on helpful, inspired eBooks and products to gobble up.

When you do get around to product shopping just trust your intuition. We always feel and know when a product vibes with us. When you see a handful of authentic, glowing reviews in combination with the resonant product you can run with it.

Good to see you in IM. All the best and enjoy this journey.
