Ezine: anchor unrelated to subject?

For ezinearticles.com, is there any problem with anchor text being totally unrelated to the subject of the article. For example, your article is about 'used cars' and your resource box anchors are about 'old stamps' (bad example, but should make the point).

I have heard it both ways. Some say having your text and link being totally unrelated to your article is a good thing for some reason. Others say that you promotional box should just be one continuation of the article with your applicable link in it.

EZA aren't much bothered if the resource link matches the content of your article.

There is some benefit with them matching as you may get direct traffic if the article does well in Google.

It really depends if you're trying to get any SEO benefit from doing this?

sorry did not make it clear. I am really asking about ezine's POLICY in this matter. Sometimes I just want to get the seo benefit, and not care about traffic from ezine.

I don't think there is a problem. Sometimes I write articles just for the backlink, and they are not related. I've never had EA say there is any problem with them.

I am sort of torn about whether it's a good idea though because I really like traffic from the articles themselves. But on the other hand, a lot of times it's so much easier to write an article on something you are interested in. I can easily do 6 or 7 articles an hour that way, then just put a link to one of my sites and get a backlink.

They don't care. I regularly write articles on things like nutrition and weight loss, yet have resource boxes that say something like.

Ted is a prolific author who writes on numerous topics. See his latest articles on "Dead Bald Turkey Gizzards" and "Venereal Warts Poodle Home Remedy"

Hmmmmm, wonder is those niches have any possibilities . . .

I would say don't do it. When I write my articles for EZA, I make sure I have keyword richness in the title, the intro and on the first few lines of the article. Then I make sure the SEO box has the same keywords. The results speak for themselves: try Googling the name of the class I have been taking "Starting with Marketing Academy" and note that the number three and four results are my EZAs. Not bad!
So that is my somewhat humble opinion.
    Take care,

Do you want just any old traffic or do you want targeted traffic?

Which do you think would be more apt to make a purchase?

Your link in the resource box should be applicable to the subject of the article.

Also keep in mind that others who pick up your article may not appreciate a link that takes them to something completely different from the subject of the article, and they may tend to think it might reflect badly upon them from their readers.

The purpose of article writing is to get traffic, after all, and the more targeted the better. But you won't get traffic if you rely solely upon everyone going to Ezine Articles to read your article. Others picking it up and spreading it across the internet for you is a crucial part of your article marketing success, yes?

    I do it both ways.

Matching links = backlink + traffic from article.

However, when using non-matching resource links, your articles can be surrounding higher-volume niches which can/will make them more likely to be published for even more backlinks.

    EZA doesn't mind either.

I don't think EZA minds either way but I can see this being used as a strategy in large/competitive niches.

Let's say you write an article on nutrition/weight loss. In your resource box you can target a number of different prospects depending on what wording you use. Such as

      1. Have the ass of a warrior princess! Our nutrition and fitness guides will make you irresistible.

      2. You are a dead man walking. Did you know that obesit is one of the leading causes of heart disease? Get back into tip-top shape with our fitness guides.

I just threw these together but hopefully you get the jist of what I'm saying.
