My Girlfriend is starting her OWN blog + some advice!

Hi Warriors

After months and months of trying....

I've finally convinced my girlfriend to start her own blog!

(I see this a massive personal victory )

It's about one of her hobbies, but it is a niche which is going to explode over the next year (in my opinion)!

I've managed to register a keyword rich domain - this keyword has 4,400 searches a month, and "161,000" competing pages.

Given the state of the sites I have looked at, some simple SEO will get this site on the first page in no time!

Nothing to impressive - but I think that this is something that is going to grow rapidly AND the main keyword in this niche has a monthly search volume of 673,000, and competing pages are just under 2 million.

There are various other BUYING keywords with 10,000+ searches!

Now this post isn't just fluff about me succeeding in getting someone who was skeptical, to start an online business - there is something useful as well!

The Money

My girlfriend started this hobby around 6 months ago.

Up to now her total spend is:

  • £250 ($375) For equipment
  • £500 ($750) In training
And she still now pays £50 ($75) a month for training.

So that's over $1000 so far, and nearly $1000 a year in training!

Now, so far, I have only found ONE digital product for this niche!

There is literally NO competition!

What Am I Actually Saying?

When you start out - you tend to automatically look at the most common niches. That's fine - BUT they are almost always the most competitive.

Think outside the box - there must be hundreds of niches out there, crying out for some solutions to their problems!

I have spent time talking to my friends and family, and I actually write notes - then do some keyword research on the topics.

It's amazing the kind of things you can discover - and there is so much cash to be made!

Go and talk to your partner, your friend and family - see what they have been doing!

Then research it....

I'm not saying that this is a proven technique - but you may just discover a niche which is crying out for some online solutions, and as someone with a marketing brain - you can absolutely dominate!

    Preston:
Great work targeting a specific niche--like how you left us hanging--what is it? Or do you want to keep it secret until you dominate the niche? Hmm that sounds like a smart idea on your part ;-) I got involved in the Wii Games niche with BANS and the competititon is fierce! To your (and her) success!

I'm gonna keep this baby quiet!

I may share it in the future, but I'm still testing it myself.

No problem David--it sounds like you two are on the right track. I have a friend who writes the most incredible book and movie reviews on his Facebook page and I keep telling him he needs to do a monetized blog and make a little coin for all that great data he gives away for free!

See I really like this thread, kinda warms my heart up.

Girls who think that the Internet is the quickest way to find where to go and buy some Jimmy Choos or which romantic (and probably teeth pullingly dull) comedy to watch at which cinema and when... Yes, that's my girlfriend. Introducing her to a money making scheme intergrated into something they can really get into is a victory for the male species for sure, I'm right there with you brother !

The only reason I am not over the moon is because of a small football match approaching between your lot and my lot

When I was just a little boy I asked my mother what will I be, Will I be Blackpool or PNE, and here's what she said to me, Wash your mouth out son, go get your fathers gun, and shoot some Preston scum, shoot some Preston scum wwwhhhooaahh 'Stand up if you hate Preston, stand up'... it's all good banter

See you on the 29th November mate !!

          P.S. Appologies Admin !

    Like Raphalt, I'm intrigued!

All the best, at the very least it could pay for her hobby- some good ideas too.

Sounds like her heart isn't really in it, which is a very important thing when blogging. I've set up blogs for lots of friends who have heard about all the money that can be made, only to have them post a bunch for a few weeks or even a few months before giving up. I've done the same thing personally. It's not easy to post good content week after week. Not trying to discourage you, just something to keep in mind.

      Hi!

When I said I've had to convince her - that was because she thought all blogs were about online business!

Once I showed her that she could just blog about her hobby - post pictures/videos and interact, she was intrigued!

I can show her how to monetize this niche - as an affiliate at first, but once she makes some cash, I will wholesale buy the products!

Also looking into an info product as well, may take some time to perfect though!

Frankly, I go for the competitive Markets because potentially that is where the most money is. I think people get caught up with this notion of being worried about too much competition.

The thing is if you look at it as a long term investment and treat it that way, then 5 or 10 years down the road it wont matter about the amount of Competetion because you wil have massive success by staying consistent and persistent with it ! On the contrary, you will be rewarded with a highly competetive Niche because you stuck with it over time and outranked everyone else. And lets face it there is TONS of Money to be made with lots of Competetion.

The KEY to thinking is dont be overcome with the Get Rich Quick attitude. Rather, look at it as a long term journey much like a Marathon.

That's one way of looking at it...

But tapping into a niche where competition isn't great - and numbers a growing fast will allow you to establish yourself as THE Authority.

Plus, it's given me a buzz - finding an untapped niche - there are soooo many possibilities to explore.

The thing is - to get yourself to the top of the weight loss niche would take either a lot of time, or a lot of money.

I can start in this niche today - and with no budget, be dominating it in a few months. It's not about getting rich quick - it's about finding opportunities, and seizing them.

Some micro niches have the potential to be more lucrative than the more competitive ones!

I agree. Keep the niche quiet.

Tell the world you have a great idea, and then tell them what the idea is, and then you'll likely have a bunch of people flocking to create their own version so they can get their own piece of your pie.

Keep the pie to yourself, baby.

And good luck to your girlfriend. Hopefully she'll be so enthusiastic that the blog will grow and grow.
