Thoughts on Our New Domain Ideas?

Hi everyone,

This is my first post to warrior forums, although I've been coming to it on and off for info for years! So thanks and take it easy!

Anyway, me and my partner are looking into setting up a new blog targeting other young people like us in their late teens, 20s and 30's, covering money issues, personal development, lifestyle, housing, careers, travel, etc. You get the idea! And we really want to cover it in quite a personal and real way which reflects our own experiences as a couple and also makes this part of our branding.

Sooo... when we came to looking at names and domain ideas, the best we come up with were between:

Twoonajourney.com - Two on a Journey
&
Journeytwolife.com - Journey Two Life

We like using the word two as is resembles the two of us, and the couple aspect. However, while Two on a Journey seems simpler and easier to remember, I think the domain is hard to read, as I read it as "Twoona - Journey.com" in my head, as apposed to "Two - on - a - journey - .com.", whereas I think Journey Two Life isn't so rememberable or clear that it's about two people, but does have an easier to read domain and includes both the key words we wanted, journey and life.

I put them to a vote on a student forum and got 2 votes for Two on a Journey and 1 for Journey Two Life (which isn't very clear anyway!) but I'd like to know what you guys think in a marketing sense. And if you have any others ideas, then please share them as well!

Any thoughts, advice or votes would be great!

Thanks in advance,
Joe

Hi Joe, I also read the first one as twoona..

And when I read the second one, it sounds like I've got a speech impediment.

What's the biggest payoff for your readers, when they visit your blog?

Think about the benefits they'll get.. cutesy names are ok and all, but they don't communicate a clear message. You don't wanna leave any room for miscommunication. Most of what we say is misunderstood as it is.

I know because I've made my fair share of websites that have vague or stupid names.

Joe, the problem with your suggestions is that neither directly address what you say the site is about. "Journey" is more akin to a travel blog and "life" is so broad as to be virtually useless.

Given that you're attempting to tackle a wide range of topics, you might be better off from a branding perspective to ignore trying to incorporate specific keywords and instead opt for a shorter and more catchy name.

Or else at least look at one area that potentially separates your project - the age group you're targeting, and try something like "TwentiesTwoThirties". Although I'd still go for an unrelated, more brandable name if it were me.

    Thank you both,

I see what you're saying and perhaps those above try to hard to give a message which is still vague. However, I think the name stills needs to have some relation, unlike Google and Amazon which are seemingly random words compared to what they do. If it was a blog on our own, we'd probably just name it after ourselves!

Some more ideas I've come up with tonight are:

    twoindependence.com - Two Independance

    themodernisticlife.com - The Modernistic Life

    soverignsuccess.com - Sovereign Success

In this case, I like the use of independence in the first one in the sense of becoming independent in your teens/20's and the goals of location and financial independence, all of which the blog will cover.

I think of the second as representing a new modern way of life from that our parents had where we can learn, work and even invest often from anywhere in the world, at anytime through the computer.

But again, perhaps these meanings are lost to anyone but us again? I hope they could have a meaning but also be sleek and simple enough to just be a brand one day as well... Do any of these resonate with you and seem simple enough to be rememberable and to make a brand from?

If you're wanting to work Two into the name, what about Twogetherdaily.com? You get a play on words and you can start branding yourself for tangibles like coffee mugs, water bottles, keychains, etc. Maybe have some sort of logo designed with hands holding or two overlapping circles.

I agree with Micheal Meaney, I had the exact same problem when reading the domain names.

When covering money issues, I would be targeting users over 30.

Also, think about monetizing with lead generation offers, as there is no credit card / purchase required to complete an offer.

I like the following domain name generater for getting ideas.

I'm gonna cover this in a blog post so it might help my readers, and I might mention this thread - if you're not cool with that Joseph Brown let me know?

    Hi Joseph. What about:

    TwoLifeSuccess.com
[Available at the time of posting.]

I like that one over your others as it contains a "benefit."

Looking over your domains again I can see there are some benefits there. (I was mostly thinking in terms of your TwoOnAJourney.com domain.)

Personally I think TwoLifeSuccess.com communicates the "benefit" more clearly, however it's just my opinion.

        P.S.

I also like the domain because you started out as two successful guys, and are now (or in the future) helping thousands of People.

Definitely Journeytwolife.com. It's a lot easier to remember and sounds better. I think you can do better still though. I've used namestall a lot in the past to find good domains. There are a lot of other tools too, but I like that one the best.
